Another great scene from Bryan Cranston, showing his Heisenberg side. From Season 4, Episode 6 of Breaking Bad.

@westingtyler2 Жыл бұрын
@@lucasbrown2656 i mean, yeah it is. dopamine is literally a drug. a chemical. it's not an 'over the counter or illicit controlled substance" but the function on the brain is the same. whether it's sex, illegal substances, thrillseeking, or just enjoying a good meal, these are still possible addictions when taken to extremes that harm one's life, so Walt's addiction to his trade is a strong metaphor/allegory/parable or whatever for substance abuse since his unyielding desire for that feeling is destroying his life and family, just as an illegal substance would. I'd say it's an apt comparison, and very poetic from a story design perspective, that Walt is an addict just as much as the people he sells to, just to a different chemical.

Love how the anger builds from each keyword and phrase. "Getting shot when you open your front door." "You're not some hardened criminal. You're in over your head." ".. desperate for money" ".. admit you're in danger" Walter translates Skyler's concerns, her real concerns, into statements of weakness against Walter. He's not tough, he has no control, and he's no better than some common criminal that can be squashed at any moment's notice. Walter literally goes from sitting beside Skyler to standing opposed from her. You're with him or against him. The talk didn't even feel like husband and wife talking, more like criminal to criminal. First as peers, until Walt changes it to a boss vs underling dynamic.

It's amazing how well this scene communicates how much Skyler still genuinely cares for and wants to help Walt, and how terrible of a person he's become to speak to his own wife like that. I remember old Walt, and this is a different person.
@crow_g1639 Жыл бұрын
Ohhh man skyler never really cared like thay for walt she gave him a half bad jerky derfy on his birthday in season 1
@hanswurscht6625 Жыл бұрын
lol. Skyler doesnt want to help Walt, she's just afraid. This is typical mother behaviour. She wants him to be a boring clerk with a save salary instead of a man with ambition and a purpose. But later in the show she'll hump him like there's no tomorrow. She likes bad boy Walt, but she cant be with him. The whole show is about Walt developing his character. He turns from a pussy to a bad boy and then, right before he dies, he finishes the journey by becoming the hero, admitting to his faults and arrogance and by saving Jessy. Moral of the story is to incorporate your dark side before it overwhelms you. Walt was a pussy for too long and then the backlash to his weakness overwhelmed him. So dont be a pussy, assert yourself when need be!
@SomeTomfoolery Жыл бұрын
@@hanswurscht6625 Lol "a man with ambition and purpose" is a strangely deceptive way to describe a man who becomes a stone-cold killer and meth manufacturer.
@hanswurscht6625 Жыл бұрын
@@SomeTomfoolery There is nothing strange about that at all. Ambition isnt limited to the things we like, it's an amoral concept. Ghengis Khan was certainly an ambitious man, but he also was a mass murderer. Lots of great men of history had questionable ambitions. But ambitions nonetheless. The fact that Walts ambition turns dark is important. Thats what happens with people who live a life too afraid to act. He could have had his shot at greatness with grey matter technologies, but he chickend out, took the save route and became a totally overqualified high school teacher. Then his resentment grew (see Eliots birthday party) and finally broke free. Thats a relateable story which makes Breaking Bad such a cool show. This scene with Skyler is the same. Its not just about Walt being a murderous drug dealer, this is what women and especially mothers are like. Pick the save route, do what I want you to do, be a good boy. Your reward is a disinterested handjob at your 50s birthday. Walt is a good boy and ofc he gets zero respect for it. What he did was right, he should have asserted himself a long time ago. If he had done it when it was appropriate, he might not had to overcompensate by becoming a drug kingpin. But he certainly had to break bad a little bit, cause he was a pussy who lacked teeth.
@SomeTomfoolery Жыл бұрын
@@hanswurscht6625 The first half is pretty apt, but there's no world in which what Walt did was right. We could discuss what role his environment had in his making, but he's still ultimately morally responsible for the evil he did. And in what world do women not like men who are ambitious and successful? Those are the ones who best provide for their family. Skyler is horrified not that he's ambitious but that he's a criminal. Walt absolutely has the choice to become good and successful, Grey Matters willingly invites him in. But his pride leads him to his fall.

@ourcorrectopinions68243 жыл бұрын
Yet, this iconic line is said when Walt is most scared and in fear for his life. So it’s all posturing, which escapes almost everyone because Cranston delivered it so well. The character is trying to convince himself he’s in control when he clearly isn't, thus why he shows a hint of fear at the end of saying it. He needs to convince himself he’s in charge so he overcompensates in the opposite direction, e.g. “I am the danger".

I agree. His inflection on that last sentence is a little funny to me. I think if he had a few more tries or they chose a different take he could have made the entire comment like the "danger" part. Also I think they edited out some dialogue after the "Knocks". Watch it again and tell me what you think.
@man53794 жыл бұрын
@@20TonChop ur saying one of the greatest scenes in tv show history needed "more takes"? it was perfect, the entire thing and im not just being a blind fan. Every voice tone, every look he gave, every hand movement he made was calculated down to the second by cranston and gilligan. And seeing as though you cant take the cranston out of walter white, a part of cranston is walter and when he was focused and tapped into his character he was flawless, atleast in the takes that made it to screen. Every scene has atleast a couple of takes even if it wasnt messed up, the director wants multiple options to choose from. This scene was chosen, this scene was perfect and I think trying to dismiss it and say it needs more takes in a couple of sentences is pretty misguided

I think what makes the scene so great is that rage like this can happen to anyone. Let's be honest, when we all reach that boiling point we just let our initial thoughts come over and we all just let it out, just like Heisenberg (not Walter white)... One of the best things about Breaking Bad is that the creators knew when to end it. There no open ends or pointless character arcs unfulfilled (aka filler) by the end of the series. Everything that was shown played some part in the story. And that's how it should be. I'm looking at you, Dexter.

Yeah, paying attention to the colors is very important in this series. Walter White used to wear a lot of green in the beginning, when he was a nerdy, unhappy teacher. As he progresses and becomes more of an authority, he starts wearing redder, like when he comes out of the chemo and keeps the beard: he's wearing strong pink. In the end, he mostly only wears faded brownish colors. Skylar used to wear light blue. As the series progresses, she starts wearing more and more darker colors.
