@synthsamuraiproductions As far as new analog polyphonic synths go that I've actually played, I'm gonna be honest and say the Prophet 5/10 and Oberheim OB-X8. Of, course, those are based on classics. I'll put the Polybrute on the list, too, because it has a very unique sound, and it can sound very different from anything else I've heard, especially with the morphing capabilities. So yeah, I'd rather pick those three synths over a Moog One, which would collectively exceed the cost of a 16-voice Moog One. However, I feel they're all worth their price based on sound.
@ByronHadley1

@@kvmoore1 I have both the P-10 and the OB-X8, and your comment is spot on - The P-10 is my very favorite of all (I have two of them now) and the OB-X8 is my next runner-up favorite. I don't have any Arturia hardware yet, but the new PolyBrute 12 is hot on my radar. That and the TEO-5 will likely be my next additions.

Moog One owner since 2020. Most people weren’t aware that PRIOR to 1.5, the sound was indeed flat BUT if you used the inserts as outputs (bypasses FX and VCA) you were greeted to the true sound of the One. After 1.5 (which took over 2 years) Moog fixed the sound.

The Rolls Royce of synths - a showpiece for synth connoisseurs. I think they topped out at 5000 units mfg., which is respectable for a synth with its features, price range and being made in the USA. Glad I got mine when I could. The only people who hate on this synth are those who can't afford one. People hate on Rolls Royce too, but we all know they want one. I think they simply realized about everyone who ever was going to buy one had done so. Somewhere around 4000 units sold so definitely a successful product for them. I continue to believe a 4 octave 6 voice 2 part Subsequent 37 around the price of the Sequential 6 voice synths would have sold a ton more, but Muse is roughly that so we shall see... Phase cancellation issues I do not think have ever been completely fixed, but close and MUCH better than before that patch.

With the Mini Moog at $5000.00, a mono synth, I don't think that could happen. We have the Matriarch today, which is probably one the best mono with Moog sound, so maybe think of Moog in monosynth thoughts, Moog has never been about the poly.
@ByronHadley1
@ByronHadley1 Ай бұрын
Actually, IMHO, all they needed to do was reproduce the MemoryMoog and add some updated features to it and they would have hit a total home run. Look at Dave Smith's success with the Prophet 5/10! With the M1, they attempted to reinvent every wheel ever made, and succeeded in creating a virtual support nightmare for themselves right out of the gate. The OP amps that the M1 uses (SCORES of them - 8 PC boards filled to the brim with them!) were discontinued about 2 or three years after the synth was released, and I haven't looked into it recently, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the extremely complicated XMOD digital network chips they used (that control the ENTIRE synth) were discontinued by now as well. It started as a truly grand idea, but frequently in life, "simple" is just simply the best option.
@crhkrebs
@crhkrebs Ай бұрын
@@ByronHadley1 I wonder if anyone knows about the Moog One's sales in the last few years. I mean the synth isn't actually aimed at most of us. I wonder if all those that could afford the synth already bought it by 2024. Maybe the well healed market is already saturated.

@@synthsamuraiproductions Few thins of the top of my head: 1. Creaky keybed that moog promised would get better with time. I know from a friend that has had the M1 since day 1 that it's still the same. 2. Noisy outputs. This was my experience and nothing I could do to fix it (gain stage/different cables ect). 3. Pitch issue that happened to number of units. Some moog ones were not tuned correctly in the lower part of the keybed, and Moog "fixed" this with some auto tune software that did indeed corret the pitch, but made the oscilattors very digital and lifeless as a side effect. Always sad to see a synth with this much R&D and work put into its design disappear. Very sad. I have many synths, I would never been able to own a ONE. Since I orchestrate and layer my 17 synths the sound of each is not as important. These flagship models are what I would call stage synths, where your logistics are limited. One or two synths have to do it all. AND, your bands signature sound will depend on the synth you choose.

Oh my Gosh ! It was a dream synth let down by a hard edgy overdriving sound and so many bugs (at 6mn29, I thought when a cheaper Grand-Mother does saw wave much better mmm ) ... fab in unisson mod though... let's hope The Muse will be a good One ! But still I would like One !!!!!

@@synthsamuraiproductions We shall see when the time comes :) I will still not get it even if the price ends up at $3999. To much Money for a standard 8 voice subtractive synth now that we have so many great options for a fraction of the price. The 3 Korg desktop Modules + The Rack is a much better option for versatility and you even have money left for cables and some other stuff + no waiting for the unit to warm up.

I think they cant reproduce the same quality ascetically ie wood metal knobs etc overseas so they can release a lower quality product. Plus they cant keep the thing tuned and cool. So they moving onto the muse which will be like an 8 voice moog one replacement hopefully with under hood and firmware sorted out. I also heard that a couple engineers resigned last week “allegedly”

@synthsamuraiproductions I bet there's a lot of micro management bs going on. You probably have some 21 year old woman in high heals telling people like Steve Dunnington how to build a better filter.

That pile of crap needed to be discontinued. It was "One" of the most disappointing synths in my entire collection. Just wait until the insane amounts of internal heat those things generate start taking them out. Folks who have them then will wish they had never seen them.

It's kind of like a modern Memorymoog with the issues worked out. But yeah, mega expensive, possibly used as a halo product for their more affordable synths. I would never buy one, it's just too much!

It is a work of art but the oscillators never sounded good to me and it was so buggy. Maybe the Muse will be the answer.
