TONE!!! The first of several Paul McCartney projects in 2024!!! ❤

Hi Tone. Looking forward to this release. The previous half speed masters sound sensational. BOTR is a great sounding album so this should be something really special. Im in for the 2 x lp and 2 x cd. Just hope 2024 sees London Town and Back to the Egg archive releases too. Hope your injury now on the mend Tone.

Shortly after I typed my earlier comments on the album I read his wife’s posting of the sad news that Denny Laine had passed away recently. He had been sick for a while. He was such an integral part of Wings and of course this album especially. I had seen him a year or so ago as part of a group of musicians including Joey Molland and Todd Rundgren performing songs from Rubber Soul and Revolver as well as their own hits. Denny also sang Band On The Run. RIP Denny and thanks for the music.

How many special editions of this album do we really need...?

As a Brit the first time I heard Band On The Run in the 70s was U.S given to me by an American friend. It is the best version in my eyes. If I listen without Helen Wheels it sounds wrong lol can't wait to hear the original demos.

The underdubbed are not the demos, they are the album tracks without the overdubs, so without the orchestrations etc

So for the 60th anniversary we'll get "Band on the Run- Redubed" where Paul will redub all the parts he overdubed back in the 70s? Of course by then he will be 91 so that should be a REAL treat... ;) Seriously, the underdub wasn't on the archive collection or any of the other anniversary versions because someone told him "Save it for a big one. Save it for the 50th". Either that or he worked out a deal with Henrys estate and Denny so it didn't cost so much in royalties... ;) The amount of stuff that will come flying out once Paul is gone is going to be STAGGERING.

Thanks for another great video! Sounds like we are in for a treat in more ways than one.Can't wait to hear the under dubbed versions. Not sure about Dolby Atmos. From what I've heard so far they just sound like dodgy remixes with sounds going from speaker to speaker. What does a half speed jet sound like? We will know soon.

And that dose sound intriguing :). But I am glad there are only two lol for this one. Now is not a good time for me LOL $$$$$ you know!!!But I will stay Beatey Tuned in for it all lol. Thanks for the update Tone, this also caught me by surprise! This LP is Wings' magnus opus in my opinion and the first LP I ever bought with my own earned money (from my paper route). Prior to this I had only bought singles. I am in for a copy of each version, after all gotta keep the collection fed! I do agree with the comment about the "underdubbed" tracks simply being the basic tracks, sans overdubs. I hope that theory is wrong and they are in actuality the BotR demos though. Somehow I doubt those will ever see the light of day, SO many bootlegs and official re-releases and not a peep from those sessions, so while they may not have been stolen, but maybe simply recorded over? As usual I have bought more that I should but I definitely want that Obi strip and was not sure if it would come with the 2 LP version so I ordered the 2lp, the 1 half speed master and the 2 cd. Excellent vanilla news 😂 I love these half speeds, they sound so good. I hope the 2 x vinyl release inclùdes an obi strip in there somewhere. Someone needs to get a grip on vinyl pricing, I know its not as cheap to produce as a CD, but these prices need snipping. I will still buy it of course, which they know, we all will!! I want the Archive series finished, come on Macca!! Keep the videos coming Tone.

Hope the arm is healing up as quickly as it should Tone! I'm in two minds... I'm very eager to hear the "Underdubbed" mixes and I'm really glad 'Helen Wheels' will be a proper part of this 50th release, but do I want to buy BOTR a 4th time? Not really, but I will give them a listen on spotify. Sadly, the AIR/Underdubbed sessions from October 73 are from when the 3 Wings were already back in England so it isn't the mythical "lost/stolen" demos with Denny S and Henry Mc...

I bought the 25th anniversary 2CD set many years ago and that also went with the American tracklisting and includes Helen Wheels between No Words and Picasso's Last Words. Personally I always loved Helen Wheels and the Sailor Sam referencing fits in with the Band On The Run theming for me. I don't think I need yet another copy of this album so I may just tap out on this one.

An educated guess would be that, if it were “the lost demos”, MPL would have definitely played up that narrative in this pre release. That would be the best way to get people to happily buy this album again. I’m expecting versions post Africa/pre EMI overdubs. Having said that, I like your theory much better. Going for the 1 LP and 2 CD sets. These Macca anniversary releases are one of the few new vinyl releases I look forward to. This album remains in the middle of the pack for me. A very unpopular opinion, I know. Without Helen Wheels, I tend to listen to the first 4 tracks, then bail. Helen Wheels is a favorite of mine, so I tend to hang in a bit longer when it’s included. Glad you’re accepting of having the US version become the standard release, at least for this iteration.

I am hoping that the original demos will be included in the band on the run 15 anniversary that would be very exciting and now I know that the tapes that were stolen where I think copies they were the original of the demo tapes a band on the run I love hearing demo versions of songs of how they were before they were created as a wonderful record i’ve heard a few songs from band on the run which are at 1985 Picassos last words Helen wheels in band on the run the other songs I’m not too familiar with. I do love at the end of 1985 there is a band on the run reprise which I think is fantastic and I also love the song jet which is a great one.

From reading the Legacy book I think Henry and Denny left in August 1973 and i presume the October tape was made after their return from Lagos. 2cd version for me £14.99, no brainer

That is exciting news! Denny and Henry quit the band before Paul went to Lagos so those undubbed recordings were the ones made in Lagos.

R.l.P. Denny Laine . Paul was very smart to bring on Denny to Wings . Those early records with Wings I actually enjoy. RAM is still my Favorite but BOTR was probably Paul's best. Denny stuck by Paul's side. Without Denny BOTR never would have happened especially after the other two bailed. Happened again with LONDON TOWN. Denny was right there. I always liked Denny Laine . I'll probably go with 50th release of BOTR. Great record.

Hi Tone Looking forward to this release. I am gonna buy the 1 vinyl and the slipcase 2 vinyl. So I 'm getting the OBI for sure, because it isn't obvious if it's with the BOTR album in the slipcase. I am in doubt of buying the CD set as well. A few years ago I bought the American BOTR vinyl album and the song Helen Wheels does fit. Definitely. But I am really interested in the "Underdubbed" version. Price over here in the Netherlands is 60 Euro for the the double vinyl and 35 for the 1 vin.yl. Take care

The whole album should have had a 2023 remix, plus the 5.1 on a disc as well!

Hi Tone & not sure on the source of the second album on this set as Paul, Linda & Denny were in Lagos from very late August until late September recording the album so I don't think the second album is the 5 piece band demos unfortunately.... I'd love to be wrong as I've always wanted to hear these & surely if they were available before they would have been released already? Looking forward to this but on a down side I've never liked Helen Wheels but it is what it is....

I’ve cut down on my vinyl purchases. Beatles as a group are the exception but for now even solo Beatles releases have been box set cd only. So I haven’t been getting the recent half speed masters. I have the archive sets for all of those except McCartney 1 which I missed out on and too expensive now. But because of the under dubs I’ll be getting the 2 cd set. I realize it may not sound as good as the vinyl so I’m not closing the door on that just yet completely. Hope you’re feeling better.

Thanks Tone, as you say, we all knew the half speed BOTR was imminent. Do I need a 10th copy of this album?? Probably yes, if only to keep the 50th anniversary series in tact - and because the “underdubbed” LP sounds interesting. My dilemma is that the 2 LP version doesn’t seem to maintain the 50th anniversary packaging with the coloured spine slip. So do I need to buy both versions? Or do I buy the 2 disc set of CD instead?? Yeah, I know, it’s a beyond first world problem, but these little things trigger my BCD (Beatles Collector Disorder) 😂

The US version was released on the 25th anniversary CD back in 1998 . Probably will get the double album.

Hi Tone, Trust that the arm is knitting together well. Slightly surprising news at this point, but perhaps not that much. The underdubbed version sounds interesting. Hopefully, if this is the Geoff Emerick tape, recently auctioned, it includes studio intros/longer versions etc. Like others, I don't think that this will be the pre-Lagos demos. In an ideal world would have liked a full album remix, the original demos, the underdubbed version and a physical surround mix. But we never get it all, do we? Have not been getting the half-speed remasters, so probably just the 2-CD version for me. That does sound reasonably priced. A three CD, 1 blu-ray in a clam-shell of the above would have been my ideal release at around £25 or so. They probably made the right decision not to revamp the Archive Edition. I think that there would have been heavy criticism when people have been waiting forever for the London Town and Back To The Egg sets. Can we have those next, please!

When prices will come down, maybe I go for the double LP. On Black Friday Week, Wings Wild Life half speed master was available for 16,99 on amazon. But I decided not to buy it... currently Macca III is available for the same price. But i spent too much money on records this year already... BR from snowy Munich!

I suppose this will be interesting. But, will it be essential? This reminds me of the "stripped" version of John and Yoko's "Double Fantasy". I like it, but I honestly don't hear it very often. A bunch of alternate takes would have been a lot more interesting to me. But, those probably don't exist. I'm sure I'll at least get the new 2 CD set. But, I'm not so sure how essential this release will be.

I will moan about the inclusion of Helen Wheels and the third leg that the underdubs will probably be and pre-order the double vinyl in a flash anyway. What am I like?😅

Thanks for this update Tone. I will be buying the two CD set, and wait to see whether the price goes down on the Two LP set in the following few months. I think the demos may well be the ones recorded I believe at Abbey Rd Studios with Denny and Henry. But it'll be interesting to hear this "Underdubbed" version of this classic album. Don't know if this is true and treating this with a rather large pinch of salt, but someone messaged me today to inform me that they'd heard that after Rubber Soul that the Beatles Super Deluxe Box Sets would be coming to an end. Personally I don't think this is true, we have much more to come is what I believe, the only exception to my mind would be please, please me, which was recorded in a 10 hour stint at Abbey Rd, so I wouldn't have thought that there were many takes to make an album out of. I'm sure that in the fullness of time we will discover what is being planned for future releases, and we know how Apple like to keep us all waiting.

It will be great if they do include demos and alternate takes of material with Henry McCullough and Denny Seiwell. With Band on the Run, you have one of the few times when the USA version with "Helen Wheels" may be better than the UK release.

I’d go the single album, as this upcoming version is an exact version of my original 1973-1974 beat to death US copy.

Very excited for this. I figured for sure we were getting the half speed master, wasn’t seeing the 2-LP and especially the 2 CD sets coming. But this is a big and important album. My only complaint is I like how uniform the other four releases in this series have been. With the Obi-strip on each. If you get the 2 LP no Obi. So I went for one of each. 1 LP, 2 LP and 2 CD. Very glad they are doing a CD at all. Seems CD is really dying off.

For those interested Macca posted this today, it is Band on the Run the underdubbed mix. This is indicitive of what the rest of the mixes are going to be and l am a bit underwhelmed tbh. Customers on Paul’s site can order up to 4 copies of each iteration. I ordered 4 double LP’s and 2 double CD’s. I have no idea if a CD can reflect the same quality sound as a half-speed master LP 😬, but they were inexpensive enough to get a couple. There are 2 solid reasons to be excited, the half speed LP, and the underdubbed (original Wings demos 🙏?) Hope all is well Tone. (Bidding on a 1970 Apple recording of The Beatles Christmas Album LP right now… it’s going be expensive 😢) 🎄

If Henry and Denny S. are on the second disc, I may buy the 2 cd set, but Band on the Run has been done to death almost as much as Beatles stuff has. I’m still saving my money for the London Town and BTTE Archive sets, if they ever come out.

Don't want to seem like 'Debbie Downer', but the 50th anniversary of 'BOTR' is slightly, underwhelming.Compared say to the US 25th 3 CD Deluxe Set? But what is left in the vaults? Probably not much for this album.So typically instead of releasing unreleased material or even live songs from this album, they go with the 1/2 speed remastering, Dobly Atmos etc.. to please the "socks and sandals" brigade? This second disc, “Underdubbed” Mixes Edition, sounds a bit of a mystery. Hope it's not a repeat of the the version above. Great album all the same, and my favourite of Paul's Wings albums.I am remember at the time after watching "Helen Wheels" on T.O.T.P's and then discovering it wasn't on the album, feeling slightly disappointed. Add that into also not getting "Live and Let Die" which also debuted earlier that year .But the album as we all know became a classic nonetheless in my eyes, and many people's. Sadly now Denny has gone, only two remaining of the people that graced that famous front cover.Thanks for the music D.You will for sure be missed.

This is proof that Beatle fans will just lap up whatever they are given…..and proclaim it to be amazing. And as for the Archive Collection…..dead.
