@@jaunedroite it is indeed but he didn't have to do it 100%, nobody would have known. I have worked with plenty of people who would behave like that without far less than a world record at stake, that's for sure.

@@brianridley1102 I get it, but "the most selfless act I have seen anyone do" is a bit much. Just seem like unnecessary exaggeration, when the guy is paid for exactly that and was already paid for it when he set his hour record (so he knew all along what was coming).

It's a beautiful thing to see the selflessness of Dan Bigham in assisting Ganna to his record. The individual gets celebrated, as they should, incredible effort but the kudos to the entire team.

Awesome feat. When you look at what it takes to do this now it helps to explain why cycling is getting so expensive. Gone are the days when the likes of Obree made his own bike out of washing machine parts. These companies have to recoup some of this investment somehow.

I’ve always wondered what would happen if today’s riders got on a non-aero steel frame, and rode outside in wool shorts just like Merckx did back in the day. Would anyone break that record?
@Horstelin6 ай бұрын
They would probably still beat it. Nutrition and training is just so much better these days then back then. If Merckx would have had today's tools back then? Probably not.
@duroxkilo6 ай бұрын
i think it's a difficult question to answer in any realistic way. when going fast enough (not just on a bike) air friction plays a larger and larger role in power consumption... at about 15km/h air resistance is the main force the rider works against (it goes up to over 90%) at the speed these riders pedal. so pedaling in open air for one hour presents the rider with such inconsistent air resistance that a world record would depend a lot on pure luck of wind direction and intensity... ps: even sprint runners feel this 'wind inconsistency' and at a certain wind speeds, the races "don't count"
