After taking on the role as a new parent, Maggie noticed that for most parents, their style of parenting their own children was greatly influenced by how they themselves were brought up. As an early childhood specialist, she has come to realize that children need not just love and support, they need respect if they are to thrive. In her talk, she reveals how her own experiences had profoundly impacted her childhood and shares her top 3 tips to other like-minded parents, educators, and caregivers, so that we may raise happier children who can grow to fulfill their potential in life.
Maggie Tseng is a first-generation Taiwanese-Canadian from Vancouver, Canada. She is a certified Teacher Assistant from The Association Montessori Internationale and a qualified Mindfulness Coach for Children from the innovative Mindful Schools. She is currently pursuing her Early Childhood Education at UCLA. As well, she invests in growing business ventures and ideas that support innovating the ECE industry for educators as well as parents. Maggie has made it her life’s mission to make an impact in bringing about a positive change in the system that we entrust to educate the next generation. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Growing up with many Asian kids who are pressured by their parents to do well, I can so relate to this talk! Such an important message for parents to find the balance between wanting their children to succeed and wanting them to be happy. I'm inspired to raise my kids differently. Here’s a diff perspective…this woman complains her parents pushed her too much. Some of us were so neglected and had 0 parents we wished our parents cared enough to hit or push us. The opposite of being pushed is far worse. This woman doesn’t get it but I don’t blame her.
