In a nutshell, I visited and vlogged New Brighton Lighthouse 2 weeks ago but my vlogging camera was knocked over whilst shooting a time-lapse. Sadly it effected the focusing so I couldn't use any of the later footage. Not an issue it just meant I got to return for a second shoot.
I timed the second shoot so the tide was in as apposed to the first visit when the tide was out! You can determin which shoot was which based on where the sea is :) Hope that makes sense!
If you've never been to New Brighton Lighthouse in Liverpool you should go. It looks awesome and there are so many different compositions to be had.

Good move, Gary. Love the low horizon with the turbines in the background. Also love the shot with the lighthouse with the faster shutter speed darkening the scene. WOW that orange sunset just pops.

Gary, you knocked it out of the park with those lighthouse shots, both long & reg. exp. I too love to break the rules, this may partially explain why I had such difficulties in elementary school, those poor teachers! Moving out of the comfort zone with respect to the Rule of Thirds on those horizon shots sure brought the dramatic skies out... Well done sir, Bill Farr...

watching your videos, reminds that pressing shutter button should be fun. even if something go wrong. i found that i am shooting about same places as you do. and its so cool to see, that by being in the same place, everyone has different shots. obviously mine are not paid ones, just a hobby, but its nice to see that somebody else is able to get up early in the morning, jump in the car, have 3 hour drive to shot some photos. 500px.com/baranovskyphoto

Hi Gary, First excellent videos i like your infectious style and enthusiasm at 5.56 the shot of the sunset and perch rock light house you give the settings as iso 100 F8 exp 1/120 sec but the image to me seems like a long exposure with a ten stop do you mean 120 secs of exp . Regards Ste.

A question about your picture of the lighthouse you show at about 8:45mins into the vid - the caption says that the exposure is 1/120sec - that can't be right, can it? It looks like a long exposure for sure - maybe 120sec?!

Hi, glad you like my video and thanks for the great comments. I see you noticed my muppetry :) It should of read 120 seconds yes. I used a template and forgot to remove the "1/" if you know what I mean :)

Tony Turner - hi Tony. My go to camera although I didn't use it in this video (being repaired) is a Canon 5D MKIII. My cameras are full frame. Not sure what camera you use but any camera will suffice.

Gary Gough thanks Gary. I use a Canon 70D and, the reason for my question was to 'interpret' your focal length settings with my crop sensor in order to achieve similar perspectives to your 'masterpieces'! Your reply was appreciated.

I have an issue if the camera sits on the sand in the water. The camera was stood on rock so it's generally not too bad :)

do you use the CDs under the legs to stop it from sinking? I used to use flat stones, but now I've seen a few videos where they've used old CDs. So i've dug out Vanilla Ice, Steps and Aquas greatest hit. That should do me for a while :)
