Not my fist choice but he’s an experienced manager and he did very well with Sevilla on a small budget. PSG you’re always expected to win things because of the players but it’s much harder thank you think because of the big egos you have to contend with. Nonetheless he still won trophies over there and the champions league knockouts you can’t blame him for when he’s up against Barcelona and Real Madrid. Everyone talked about the 6-1 defeat as if it was his fault, imo the players bottled it not him. Plus he’s a young manager so he’ll be willing to change things if it goes wrong.

Ok let's be honest, Emery is not a brilliant manager. PSG fans wanted him out. And Arsenal fans will too. He's better than Arteta but not an upgrade on Wenger. Emery at Sevilla: -Never finished in the top 4 -Went a full season without winning an away game in La Liga -Finished 7th in his last season Emery at PSG: -Lost Ligue 1 to a bunch of kids -Never made it past the round of 16 in the CL I'm not trying to banter these are just facts. So fans should not expect him to light things up.

Your points. -Sevilla is not very good, plz do point out that he only finished 2 points from 3rd place Atletico in 2015. -14 home wins that season including vs Real Madrid and Barcelona. -Prioritized Europa, look at that season carefully, intentionally lost 7 of last 9 in favor of EL. -PSG still claimed the domestic cups, beat Monaco 4-1 in a final. -Went out to 2 of the best teams on earth.. and under dubious circumstances (2nd leg vs Barcelona especially)... Still was able to beat Liverpool, Bayern and Barcelona in Europe. He ain't bad bro.

100% Also, it honestly wouldn't have been fair to M. Arteta. To be given this role as your first managing gig..tough. It's in no way similar to Guardiola starting his managerial career with Barca and being insanely successful. We are not Barca. We don't have Messi. And he would've just gotten a shit deal all around. Tbh, I think that feeling you have now is excactly what the board wanted. They've had an interest in Emery all along (they wouldn't just get the idea today and sign him the same day, that's not how it works". They spread the Arteta rumours, looking how it was perceived. If positive: Sign Arteta, if negative: sign Emery -> because it's not Arteta the signing will look even better in this context.

Good psychological game. The Arteta story makes this appointment seem better than it is. Emery's record isn't anything to get excited about and the Neymar debacle showed up his poor management of egos. The decision has been made, so let's get behind him. The board needs to get him a good budget. We also need to adopt an aggressive model as Chelsea's success over the past decade has shown. Progress year on year, if not - sack the manager. Any manager who shows good progress over a 3 year span can get a long term deal.

I think this is a great appointment! For all the reasons Robbie said and the simple fact that he was the best available. I don’t think Henry should be the number 2 as I want him to be the Arsenal manager at some point meaning he’ll need to get more direct experience and freedom in managerial role to mould his philosophy!

A couple things: - He didn't manage the personalities at PSG. Thats partially why he was sacked. Neymar did whatever he wanted, cavani and neymar fought over penalties and Emery didn't resolve it. He is not defensively strong PSG have conceded many awful defeats. With his appointment Ozil will probably be given even more sick days. This is not a great manager. Not for Arsenal!!

Robbie, you should look into whether or not Unai Emery was able to control the egos in the PSG lockerroom. I read a couple of things that said the big name players walked all over him because he isn't a confrontational manager. It could be Ozil taking games off again if that is true. Honestly, don't know what to expect from Emery as a manager. I'll back him, but i'm not convinced. People talk about the three Europa League titles but aren't we trying to get over that and into the Champions League and eventually win it some day? He has a track record of losing big games too, remember PSG vs Barca? Real vs PSG? There are others.

Grant Mcroberts he didnt win the league every season. Robbie even tells you in this video that he didn't win the league every season. French league is a one horse race and he still didnt beat Monaco. Psg didnt have enough ambition appointing him that's why they haven't done shit in Europe. Arsenal have seen him fail at psg and then still chose to sign him so yes they lack ambition. They want him to do what Arsene did. 4th place.

this is better than arteta, this guy has experience and has worked at top clubs. ill get behind him and we need to give him more than a season to turn it around, if we finish 6-7th next season we shouldn't panic, give him 2-3 years unless it starts going really badly. i just hope he gets the money to fix our problem areas, my only concern is how he's done in champions league with PSG.

Anyone that thinks this is underwhelming truly doesn’t understand the success that unai had at psg. Plays fast football, his teams score an enormous amount of goals and he’s developed great young defenders (Marquinhos, kurzawa, Laporte you could even say) while the French league is a joke, he had tremendous success in Europa league so I think it’s a good signing.

I'm in for Unai. He's experienced, he managed big clubs and top players, he has won trophies with previous clubs, he's everything we need. Henry as a second manager would be perfect.

Quite pleased - seems a sensible appointment. Good for both parties. Arteta could still have a role in the management setup. Need cb's, holding mid and a goalkeeper... in addition to keeping ALL the current squad apart from mustafi.. who's been $hite! Iwobi needs a loan out somewhere. Not that fussed out ozil either - not on that contract.

I’m really liking the things this man is coming with, to me he seems just, he ticks all the boxes, he even really cares about the fans, as quoted below, I’m very excited, the English thing is nothing, he’ll be fluent by the time pre-season starts, watch. Arsenal are in a more favourable position than Sevilla were when he was manager. Sevilla were very strict financially so it was a big ask to compete with Barca and Real

Unai Emery is a great appointment, it isn't Allegri, but this guys domestic record is incredible. Had he not lost to real madrid in the champions league noone would be batting an eye. One of the top three best options we could have appointed.

I absolutely agree with you in every point you mentioned!!! I am happy with Emery. He can attract the likes of Nzonzi (Pogba like), Iniesta (FOC Spanish), Draxler and so on...... Vitally, a tactician to build a red army camp for our defence. VERY CRUICIAL: If Mislintat and Emery can make magic together we will win the Premier League and Champions League within 5 years. David Dean & Arsene was a pure example otherwise we running towards catastrophe. Come on Emery make us believe again...

Very surprising. I only saw him being connected to the Arsenal job a day or two ago and suddenly he is to be appointed. Until then it was all Arteta or Allegri and Enrique for a while. I dunno how well he will do. I think it's a better choice than unproven Arteta but Emery had a huge budget at PSG and at Arsenal - well atleast he can stay for 20 years or so, therefore his career is secure!

Glad this has got sorted early. Gives him enough time to get settled into the new role. Now just need to get our signings ready before pre season and get behind the team. Give him a few years, if were back in the top 4 in the next 3 years then its progress i guess. Would have rather had Someone or Allegri but I'll take him over the Arteta, Vieira, Henry, Luis Enrique links
