Hi Alice, that is so awesome, It warms my heart that the video helped you and your daughter towards your Breastfeeding success. As a mom myself, who initially struggled for several months before my daughter "figured it out", I understand how important this journey is for you and your baby and how important those WINS can be for your journey. Congratulations for sticking with it, it does get easier with time and practice. Someone one told me "Don't quit on your worst day" and that helped me get through some of our biggest challenges. I am putting together a virtual Lactation Crash Course and would love it if you would allow me to share your comment as a testimonial to my work. :)

My son is 7 days old and he is having a hard time latching. I am trying to learn as much as I can as I am desperate to make breastfeeding work for us. I was able to breastfeed my second son so easily but this time around it has been a struggle. My supply has decreased due to exclusively having to pump because I can’t get him to latch well. These positions were so well explained. Thank you. I’m excited to try these and see if it helps improve our chances of getting this to work.

This video is so helpful and makes a lot of sense. For my first child I was told about the lying down position when I was struggling with a latch and found it so disheartening when my baby wasn’t interested in doing this latch. I wish I had this information back then. I’m pregnant with my second child now and these videos have been so great to ease my anxiety around feeding again! Thank you!

My baby breastfed until I couldn’t handle the pain any longer. After about 1 week I had to pump and bottle feed and he got his tongue and lip tie fixed. It’s been about 3 weeks since he got that done and I’m still not all the way healed. One side started to feel a lot better though and when I tried breastfeeding on that side it still hurts really bad the whole time. I do everything that you mention and still get that lipstick crease and extreme pain. It seems like when he gets my nipple far back enough he like gags and cries and won’t feed unless it’s a shallow latch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for posting these videos. I'm having so much trouble nursing my second baby. She's six weeks old, and still having latch issues. My first baby nursed for two years no problem, so I have some experience. We've had her checked for tongue and lip ties. I've seen a lactation consultant four times. I've gotten mastitis, blisters, cracks, scabs and thrush. I can finally get her in football on my right side with no injury to my nipple, but my left side continues to be almost unbearable. By the end of a feed, my nipple is stretched further from the bottom than the top and.looks like she was biting down the whole time. It'll be squashed flat with a ring like a horseshoe going around the front like her gums had been pressing down all the way around. She's getting a deep latch and I can hear her swallowing. Every consultation I've had, they tell me everything looks great, and she'll probably just need time to practice. I just don't know what to do. Considering exclusively pumping on that one side because I just dread every feeding now and I've been in pain for six weeks.
@KassiReyes
@KassiReyes 3 жыл бұрын
I am SO sorry. It sounds like you have done everything right, how frustrating. Not sure who checked for the tongue tie for you, but you may want to consider getting a second opinion from someone who specializes in tongue tie. A lot of times the less obvious, posterior restricitons or ties are harder to identify and can cause a lot of the symptoms you are describing. That being said, some babies have very receded chins, which tend to move forward around 3 months of age and at this time nursing may become better for you. You may also consider working with a feeding specialist and/or a cranio-sacral therapist who works in baby mouths. If you need a break from putting your baby to the breast, there is nothing wrong with taking a break and pumping. Switching to pumping also doesn't have to be a permanent solution. It may be what you do right now, and you can go back to trying baby to breast when you feel up to it again. Neither latching or pumping have to be "all or nothing".. You could pump for a week or two and then go back to trying latching, do what works for you.

@@KassiReyes Hey, I just wanted to say thank you again. My baby is almost five months old now, and we are exclusively nursing with no issues 🥰 it was her two month checkup the first time I could say I was pain free. It was a very hard two months, but I'm so proud of her and myself for getting here. Your kind words were a true game changer for me. My in personal lactation visits honestly made me feel ashamed. They were very informative, but cold. I felt like I was a bother or just broken because they couldn't figure out why our issues lasted so long. Your saying the jawline comes forward around three months was the first time I had heard that. It kept me hopeful and kept me going. I'm so grateful that it only took two for us. I'm so grateful you took the time to talk to me about this because I was very close to calling it quits, and I'm so glad I didn't. Nursing my babies brings me pure joy. Will the baby aspirate ??? The first method ?
@KassiReyes
@KassiReyes 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kezia, a baby should not aspirate in any of these positions, but a laid back position is probably even less like for that to happen, since milk flow is slower when the parent is laid back and the baby is more in control of the pace of feed, and since baby is belly down, it is more likely express milk would run out of baby's mouth rather than swallowing too much at once. Thanks for the question!

My son is almost 6 weeks old and is 8.5 lbs. I was doing a side lay position in bed but I think its contributed to his acid reflux. So, now I'm trying to learn laid back. I had trouble getting a good latch with the cross cradle position. My question is: is there a size or age where the laid back won't work? Sometimes it seems awkward. His neck seems arched and his bottom is in the air and his face is all smooshed (safely). Is he already too big? Would that be why it feels so odd?

Hello! I would recommend working with a lactation consultant and mentioning this to your pediatrician as well. Possible causes for baby choking or gagging during breastfeeding could be possible tongue tie or possibly a strong milk let down reflex. The best way to start to get answers is to work with a professional and have them observe a feeding. Congratulations on your baby

These are great videos but you are talking to women who have just given birth... We are mothers! Women! It is so disheartening to hear a professional in this feild denying our womanhood and motherhood! You are also a woman! Why are you using your speech to deny this to us? Our motherhood is sacred! We are not "lactating parents"!! We are mothers who are lacating to feed the babies we just gave birth too! We have breasts! We are not men using babies as props in our fantasy fulfillment as we attempt to use a "chest" to feed our babies! I just learned what you mean when you say "chest" and I cant believe it! This is insulting to the core. You think you are being kind by denying our womanhood and motherhood?? You cant even bring yourself to say the word "mother" or "woman"! What is wrong with you???
