A soccer player and her mom describes their experiences before visiting us from Kansas and what they learned after two days of vocal cord dysfunction therapy sessions.
She explains how she learned to breath slow, steady, and smooth. Capnometry was used to measure her CO2 levels and what that revealed was discussed.
If you want to learn more on how we might help you, go to speechandvoice... and Sharon or Paul will call and/or email you back.

My 11 yr old son is a competitive swimmer and we are struggling with getting a treatment plan for him. He was newly diagnosed with VCD but has been having more continuous symptoms since January. He has not been able to finish practices, finish races in times he used to, etc. Do you know any specialists in TN?

Sorry, but I don't know anyone in Tennessee who does my P.I.E. approach.

How was the diagnosis made? A Laryngoscopy? Bronchoscopy?

Due to HIPAA, I cannot comment re: this particular individual. However, exercise induced VCD diagnosis is usually made by a pulmonologist or ENT (otolaryngologist) via a flexible fiberoptic endoscopy. The best way to capture exercise-induced VCD is with the above procedure during exercise (treadmill, or bike).

We know someone in your state who took our “A Holistic Approach to Treating EI-PVFM: Beyond the Basics of Buteyko” 2- Day course. We haven't heard from that person in a while so we want to touch base to see if they are taking new VCD patients. We will reply with more information as we get it.

The person in PA got back to us and she is not seeing VCD patients. We know someone in South Bend, IN and in the Chicago area. They treat VCD similarly to the way we do.

I will put your request out to one of the listserves I am part of. I might be able to do telehealth with you if you are interested.

Hello dr, do you ever find a patient that you helped with vcd ever fully recovers? As in, maybe with time and your technique’s that maybe their vocal cords heal and the vcd heals as well? I’m curious, because I’ve heard some people say that they had it for a year or a few and it went away.

I’m going to see a speech pathologist very soon, I hope they can help because if not, they are the only option I have around me. Everywhere else seems to be pediatric speech therapists.

Hi Kyren, Depending on where you are located, I might be able to do telehealth with you, though doing it in-person is better. I have to be licensed in the state or country where you are physically located at the time of the session. Contact my office if you want to explore this further.

Hi @mikeusa9557 The treatment that these patients are talking about needs to be administered by a trained speech-language pathologist who specializes in this area. The purpose of posting these videos is meant to increase awareness of the problem, because many people get misdiagnosed.
