Because you don't become a dragon. The Dragon bursts out of your body and kills you. Kind of like a super cancer.

The idea of the game is that you are bound to a dragon, Odjn, you are granted his powers in order to help Ryu throughout the game, however the more you call on it's powers, the faster Odjn's power takes over Ryu, If the D.Counter hits 100% before the end of the game, Ryu can contain Odjin's power no longer and Odjn is reborn born inside Ryu, killing him. The power of the dragon is almost necessary (and the final stages of the game, ACTUALLY necessary) to proceed as there are points in the game that are significantly hard, but you must refrain from using it. If you find yourself in a situation where you cannot proceed because the counter has gotten too high, you can do an SOL Restart or Restore to load your previous save or restart the entire game, but keep your Party XP so you can level up your characters enough so that you don't need the powers. Yeah, weird system.

@@daedelous7094 Just SOL Restart after the frozen road triple battle. Do that about 10 times and you can go all the way without much difficulty. I got to the top with 5% on the D-Counter... So it's definitely possible if you are devoted. And yes... It's a VERY difficult game. Not for the faint of heart.

TravisB geez, i just finished it first time, got to deamoned with like 28% d-counter, then i used d-dive at every boss after it, seriously, to die because of d-counter, u gotta use dragon mode waaay to much.

@@ConnorKenwayGames Exactly. The developers tease you with enormous power, and then punish you for using it. The trick to this game is finding the way to get powerful enough to reach the top without using it. Just exploit the frozen road battle.
