If anyone complains that they can't see the video during your reaction, they need to just go watch the original. We're supposed to be here for your reactions, so personally I'd rather you do what you need to in order to keep your video up and not see your reaction at all. Cheers! It's Kevin who's making the noises. He beat boxes and playes the cello at the same time. He calls it Celloboxing

If you haven’t watched their song “Sing”, you should. Kevin does a rap segment in that, and one of his lines is “I’m the human 808.” I looked it up, and the Thompson 808 was the first commercial drum synthesizer. So basically he was saying “I’m a human drum synthesizer”, and he’s basically correct. And if you haven’t done it yet, their cover of “Gold” by Kiiara, is another one that’ll knock your socks off.

I don’t think anyone is surprised by the comment that they’re musical geniuses, but I also think they’re emotional intelligence is unmatched in a group. They convey emotions soooo well.

Not sure anyone mentioned how, in order to get the still-life effect they wanted, they had to put Scott where he could keep a deathgrip on the backs of the chairs so he wouldn't sing with his hands!

This is such a beautiful song and Pentatonix really did it justice. What a fabulous version. There were so many times when it felt like my chest was tight from holding my breath and then everything became a sigh...it was just stunning. Thank you Katie for getting this in front of DJ, absolutely phenomenal choice of song, as always. Personally, the blur and the deer (super cute - well done Lampropeltis) did not detract from the video at all. I'm glad that it wasn't completely blocked so that there were still obvious perspective changes. Thankfully, many of PTX's videos are sit-and-sing videos so it makes it easier to cover those ones up and not detract from the video at all. Thank you DJ for this reaction, it's really amazing to see how far you have come since your first video 364 days ago...

It's definitely Kevin beatboxing while playing cello, he was discovered by the trio prior to the Sing Off for his viral video doing"celloboxing" as he calls it. He is a magical unicorn and we love him for it.

in regards to your comment about their sound being too full to just be coming from those 5 people, during the Sing Off in 2011 the judges commented (more than once) on how incredible it was that they sounded so full with just 5 people, and since that show was a live competition, I feel pretty confident that they use their arranging and singing abilities to create sound that doesn't seem possible. And, that was 13 years ago, they have only gotten better with time and experience.

Thank you for reacting to this beautiful Pentatonix video. They put their acting skills on display in this one, especially Kirstin. To save yourself time and trouble, just use a filter of some type whenever you react to Pentatonix. Kevin invented celloboxing. Scott saw a viral video of Kevin beatboxing while playing his cello at the same time and messaged him to invite him to join them to start the band.

It is Kevin doing that sound, his "celloboxing" as many have called it. You can see him if you watch it closely. This is another one of their songs that builds you up until your heart and brain seems like it's going to explode, especially when Avi comes in. Then they drop you and build it up again. At the height of the song Scott comes in and starts the build again, then Kirstin just takes your breath away and belts out " Ohhh, Ill be the one if you want me too, Uhhh, ohhhhh " . 😂 Do you mean to say that we've never told you about Kevin?! How negligent of us! Okay, here goes. Somewhere there may be a better beatboxer than Kevin, but if so I've never encountered him or her. Kevin is generally too busy being the entire percussion section to sing, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice that occasionally dips into the uppermost reaches of baritone, and he's known for the beauty of his falsetto. He's also a pretty good rapper. Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. He beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he calls "celloboxing." (In fact, it was a viral video of Kevin celloboxing that first brought him to the attention of the trio back when they were desperately searching for a beatboxer to fill out the band so they could audition for _"The Sing-Off.")_ He performed at Carnegie Hall twice when he was a teenager, once on piano and once on saxophone. He graduated from Yale in 2011 with a pre-med major and had been accepted to Yale Medical School before he decided to become a professional beatboxer instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs he makes the whole planet seem like a brighter place. Thanks DJ for your reaction. Kevin is a beast n I am totally in awe of his many talents. He learned the piano at 4 and by 17 had played in Carnegie Hall twice in a special program for children. Once for the cello and the other the saxaphone. Speaks 6 languages, including Mandarin fluently. He passed his exams to study medicine in Yale but was also invited by other top universities like Harvard. He was discovered doing cello boxing by PTX n embarked on a musical career. He learned to sing well in PTX under Avi's tutorship n now wites n arranges music too. Overachiever. By the way, have u checked out the latest videos by PTX that debuted before Christmas 2023? This one was huge for a number of reasons, it was one of the first if not the first (can't remember) times we heard Avi sing the lead, and also possibly the first time we really saw Kevin in action with his cello in a video, as well as him singing at the end. I think it was also one of the first times we had Kirstin take the lead as well. Also it's just an amazing arrangement of this song. If you like this, check out Kevin's KOvers, he does amazing loop station covers on his own, and it's absolutely brilliant. Even the ones he did that I didn't like as much were still bangers, and the ones I did like are on my "weekly" playlist. Even after years at this point.

This was released in July of 2014, approximately 7 months after they released "Daft Punk Medley," their first Grammy winner. Yes, they were very young; I believe Scott and Kirstin were 22 and Mitch was just a few weeks short of his 22nd birthday. And if you've seen the video of "Daft Punk Medley" you may remember that Scott's hair was white in it. In a SuperFruit video from around then he'd said that he was going to try bleaching it; apparently he followed through on that plan.

Pentaholics are used to having videos blurred in some way because KZfaq and other powers that be have been rather draconic about reactors showing their videos. We still come for the music and your reactions. You got flustered and called Kevin "Mitch" at one point. Kevin is extremely talented in playing cello and beatboxing at the same time, so it is easy to get confused if you are not very familiar with his amazing abilities. They all just blew us away in this performance.

👉👉👉Scott is ALREADY A NATURAL BLONDE!! his eyebrows and eyelashes are so blonde they are almost invisible. What he did here is dyed his hair "Platinum" something he had been wanting to do for a long time, but was scared since he is so pale. But look again at the other videos Scott is and has always been blonde 😅 for those that didn't know him he was "The tall blonde guy from PENTATONIX" but yeah he just wanted to try being Platinum for a few months.

It's a PTX label thing. Some of the ones on my channel had to be covered and Pentaholics are very forgiving about that.

I went and rewatched the original as soon as I saw that you'd posted this. When it hit the end and Kevin sang I was like "Ah yes, the part that's gonna make DJ melt." 😄

I always watch the original video first so I can follow your reactions. =) Anyways, the dimming and only blocking part of the screen didn't take much away from tracking what was going on. By the way, Scott originally found Kevin through a KZfaq video of him playing the cello while beatboxing.

Most people watching the video have already seen the original video . We pentaholic completely understand. PTX has a wicked copyright copyright for their videos. Actually it's their label. Remember that Kevin does his cello-boxing (Kevin's 5th). This was done 10 years ago which is when they did Daft Punk. In that video he has the white hair and eyebrows. Please react to Shallow. It doesn't get the attention that it deserves. Kirstie knocks it out of the park and Kevin is magnificent on the cello. I forgot you can always measure what point in their career by using PST. Pentatonix Standard Time. By the way Mitch looks and the length of avi's hair

This was great!! Love your reactions. The cute deer is okay as a cover. It doesn't block too much of the video and it works to defy the blocking algorithm. Scott just dropped a brand new solo of his yesterday, and since he produced and engineered it...plus posted it from his Yt account ...scotthoying...it shouldn't get blocked. It's quite the bop!!

No objections to the (not unusual), covered video. Not sure about the prolapsed reindeer (or whatever it's supposed to be) though. I just sit and imagine sad faces seen through blurred vision.
