This diving experience of a lifetime in the world’s largest coral reef system will meet your expectations. The Outer Great Barrier Reef refers to the part located around the central region of the entire Great Barrier Reef. Even though the GBR has suffered undisputed damage in the past years (just like some many other fringing reefs worldwide) , many parts of the reef are on the path to recovery and there is rich coral growth supporting spectacular biodiversity.
Beyond the outer reef the continental slope drops off and this 15,000 km² of reef systems is the Coral Sea.The underwater sites are more pristine and rewarding, the drop offs are literally jaw-dropping and the visibility outstanding.
It is globally recognized for its diversity of large predators, one of the last places on Earth where populations have not yet been severely depleted. Most of the dive sites enjoy protected status representing 49 different habitats, the Coral Sea is one of the very few places in the world where intact tropical marine life can be protected on a large scale.
Only two liveaboards have access to those very remote locations.
In the 10 days trip aboard the Spirit of Freedom , we never passed a single boat.
Included in the video are some footages of the Wolf Rock dive site (Rainbow Beach ) which is not part of the Spirit of Freedom itinerary but must be dived separetely.
Wolf rock is the only known gestation site for the critically endangered Grey Nurse Shark ( aka Sand Tiger Shark or ragged-tooth shark).
In spite of their ferocious look it is a non-aggressive species.
Due to the Depth, very stong currents and poor visibility Wolf Rock can be a challenging dive site and is not for the fainthearted but is a FANTASTIC dive spot nonetheless.
Underwater footages shot with the Sony AX100 and gates housing + Sola and Keldan lights
Drone shots with the DJI Mavic Mini (with ND filters).
