@@sham3un I don't measure the salinity. Sea water salinity is about 35000ppm, what I do is, I use 1/3 of fresh water, the water where the zones were hatched, and 2/3 of sea water, which makes a salinity of around 23.333 if you want a number!!! I have tried many salinitys, and this one was the most successful for me.

@@sham3un yes since the beginning of the process until the end, but not an air stone because the fine bubbles kill the zoes, I use a straw which makes big bubbles and I make one bubble every half a second.

Hi, thanks for your message!! I don't use any heater because my water is always above 25C°. Don't use any filter, green alge and diatoms will work as a filter consuming the nitrates and phosphate. I use a straw connected to the clear pipe that is connected to your air pump instead of a air stone, because the air stone makes very little air bubbles which kills the zoes, and the straw makes bigger air bubbles which is fine for the zoes, just make three bubbles per second. @@Pinhastubes Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately I have just tested the ambient water temperature in my room and it only just 23C .....and that's in the daytime / summer here in England. If I bought a heater for the hatching tank I still have the problem of water temperature in the other glasses / bowls needed. Hey Ho, all that lovely sea down the road and a ready to drop berried Amano and I don't see a way I can do it. Not giving up just yet, I will put some more thought into it. Take care x

@@crystalstrata No, don't give up!!! Buy the heater for the hatching tank and keep the water at 26C°. For the other glasses you really don't need a heater, because those classes are to aclimate the baby amanos to fresh water and to the new tank. That you can do it in 30 minutes with the water from the tank where they are going to that is already heated!!! In theory the amano shrimp can go straight to fresh water, the problem is the PH, that is why you need thoes 30 minutes adding in the glasse where they/he are/is small quantities of the water every 5 minutes from the tank that they are going to. Please give it a try, you won't regret!!!

If I was you I would take out the filter, it is really not necessary any kind of filtration for the all process, filtration just reduce the alge growth and makes water circulation that is to strong for the little zoes. If your water is above 20C° you don't need the heater also. Don't bother with food for them, we always worried about food, but you must remember if you have any green alge on the walls and bottom that means that you have algae spores in you water and that is exactly what they need for food. I also read different things about salinity, full salinity, half salinity, i respect all the theory's, but what workes best for me is around 23ppm. Apparently there is different kind of amanos shrimps that do better in different salinitys, I am talking about raising the zoes ofcourse, you just need to figure out what works better for you. ​@@Pinhastubes Hey, I just wanted to thank you for the great advice! As soon as I removed the sponge filter I did start to grow a lot more algae. Now I have quite a lot going in the tank. However, I just wanted to ask for your opinion on my most recent attempt. Just about five days ago now I got another batch of zoes, and I put them into the tank, feeling much more comfortable because I have lots of algae. Salinity was around 30-32ppt because I thought I would try just a little lower than last time first (and will think about going even lower next time.) However, my zoes didn't last nearly as long as last time (about two weeks last time, even though I had no visible algae), and have all disappeared now. But, interestingly, I have noticed that I not only have quite a few copapods living in the tank, but also some strange tiny creatures that look somewhat like jellyfish and have two long tentacles. They swim around the tank, though, rather than sitting in place like I would expect hydra to. I started to remove them when I noticed, but my zoes all still died. So I am now wondering if these creatures are predators that may have eaten up my zoes. In any case, it's strange to me that they all died so quickly this time, when there was far more food, and the salinity wasn't bad enough that I would think it would kill them. It's such a challenge to figure this out.

@@v.4549 I am very happy for you. That is the way, you must try different salinitys and strategies to figure out which suits you best. I did exactly the same, I had more fails then successes, and I kept trying until I discovered the best strategy for me, even now there is some batches that fail completely. For me when they die very soon it is because the pregnant amano release the zoes to early by stress or diferent water parameters, you can only put the pregnant amano in the breeding tank when you see the black dots on the eggs, that means that the zoes are ready to hatch. About those creatures, are you sure it is not algae? It is a life creature? If yes i am not happy then, I never had nothing alive besides the zoes in my breeding tank, I would start from zero again. Keep the good work and you will succeed.

Use 24 hrs light. Algae will grow.and avoid filtration.

What is the best way to aclimate the zoeas to the salt seawater or can they go directly in the seawater? 3. @Seth de Boer according to my knowledge, I must say I am not a amano scientist 😉, in nature the zoes are hatched in fresh water up the rivers, and they are so small that they go with the stream to the sea, and then they stay there until metamorphosis to small amano shrimps. At this stage they will swim back to the river because soon they will not tolerate salt water anymore. That is how it works and you must cimulate this process. Now what I understand from your process is, you take the zoes from the fresh water and introduce them in to brackish water, don't do this. After they hatched you take the mother out from the bucket and start to increase slowly the salinity(less then 12 hours to the final salinity level) of the bucket where the zoes were hatched until desaire salinity level. You must remember you must aclimate the mother to the new water otherwise she will die also. They don't need any kind of shock. They don't need any kind of food for the whole process, besides green water. Be persistent, you will succeed. Cheers.

No. First you need to take out the female and then you have 5 days to add sea water.

I have a few amano larvae that are around 4 days old. Some of them just float on the surface while most of them seem to be actively grazing at the algae on the bottom of the tank. Is it normal to have amano larvae that just float on the surface?

@@siulancheung8728 hi!!! Those ones that are floating are the good ones, that is exactly what you want them to do. The ones at the bottom unfortunately are dying. Keep the good working.

Don't forget that the larveas are atracked by light that is why they are floating on the surface because is the closest to the light that they can be.

Hi!! Nothing, that is why you have lights on 24/7, to produce green water and diatoms. This is the food for them. Anything else you put in the water will rot and kill the zoes!!! Remember you have no filter to filter the water, so that water is very sensitive.

It is just a normal straw, because air stone makes fine bubbles that build a kind of a foam on the surface that make the zoes float and die, so that straw makes bigger air bubbles just to give some movement to the water and gaseous exchange. If you want you can add green water before you start do add salt water but respect 1/3 of fresh water which you must include the green water. Or you can first add salt water to the level to get 23000ppm and than wait for some water to evaporate and add green water to go back to level, like this you are feeding the zoes green water and eventually your water will go green. Keep going, you will succeed.

Howzit!!! You must remember, you must maintain water salinity at the whole process. So once the bucket is full to the line with sea water, from that point you will never introduce sea water again, from that point just add fresh water and when the water from the bucket evaporate, if the water evaporate 3 millimetre you add 3 millimetre of fresh water to the line again. You must remember when water evaporate is just the H2O that evaporates not the salt, that is why you add just fresh water to maintain salinity. When you add water you can put spirulina to that water to help feeding the zoes but little very little. Green water will come with 24 hours of light. I never change buckets. What you see there is different buckets in different stages so I can make the video in less days, otherwise I would need 45 days at least to make the video. Never change the bucket you will kill the zoes they are very weak, the less you touch that bucket the better. Cheers.

Then at day 9 I add the air stone and I noticed massive zoes lost. I had hundreds of zoes now I think only tens. I would really appreciate your tutorial. Can be written. Hi, thanks for your message. The larvae are so small and weak, that they will get stuck on that mesh because of the suction power of you filter, they will die anyway. The shrimps doesn't eat the larvaes.

@@DustySteel yes you can!!!! Once you can see the eggs and they are light grey, take the "mama" out of the tank and put in a 15 or 20 litres bucket like I did on my video, and follow the video. Do you notice that behave more intense after a water change? If yes, definitely they are "swimming up the river". How many centimeters are yours amanos? Less than 2cm they are still juveniles.

Just switch off all lights in the room, make the room pitch black, point a torchlight into the aquarium close to the glass, all the zoe's alive will be attracted by the light, and you can use a hose or a big syringe to catch them. Don't forget that they are positively phototactic which means that they swim to the light, go to 3:43 on my video and you will see. Let me know if you manage to sea/catch any zoe please. Hi and thanks for your question. Metamorphosis is when they turn from larvaes into normal tiny shrimps. So until metamorphosis it is really very different numbers, most of the time zero get to that phase. Some times 1, some times 2, 3, 10, but my average is 15 to 20. My biggest batch was 101 that successes turned to little amanos. Once they metamorphosis then 100% will survive, it is very easy after metamorphosis. I hope I could help with my answer. Cheers.

And for me the ppms with more results is 24000. So 1/3 tank water and 2/3 "salt water", other sea water or fresh water mixed with sea salt, just increase salinity slowly. For green water, just use spirulina powder, it works wonderful. See the video carefully, everything is in this video. Keep trying you will succeed. Keep well.

@@Pinhastubes hi again, my first batch died, now we have another one , they are 4 days old, i kept my tank on 24 hour light for 4 weeks now, but the algae don't want to grow. I feed them with liquizell and spirulina, but my water again is a little white, not clear. I use a sponge filter, and i don't know why the water is not clear. Maybe from liquizell? I only feed them with 1 or 2 drops of liquizell when i turn the lantern light to call them all to the food. Can you please tell me what i do wrong? If i feed them too much with spirulina will the water quality go wrong?

If the water is cloudy, that is very good, it means there is nutrients in the water to feed the zoes. I don't use any filter, not sponges, nothing, just air bubbles, one big bubble every 1/2 second, not the small ones, the small bubbles bring the zoes to the surface and kill them.

Howzit!!! The container size doesn't really matter. Just do 1/3 fresh water and 2/3 of sea water. The bigger the container the better because more stability to the water parameters. Ok, I will do my best to answer your question. Sea water salinity is 35000ppm, equivalent of 35 grams of salt for 1 litre of water. The salinity that works for me for the whole process is roughly 24000ppm. When you are acclimating the baby amano to fresh water, you don't need to know the salinity of the glass jar, you just need to change 50% of the water inside the jar for fresh water every 15 minutes until the water is fully fresh water, you need to do 5 to 6 times this process until the amano shrimp is considered acclimated. The water that evaporate you just need to add FRESH WATER NOT SALT WATER. Light 24 hours a day is to create algae and diatoms to feed the zoes. Ole Buissink the Zoe’s survived for 2 weeks... I guess you may need seawater from the sea that contains phytoplankton or what nots that the Zoe’s feed on. I supplied bright light to the reef salt mix tank for over a month and it didn’t turn the slightest green

A segunda tentativa usei um aquário com água salobra de 11 litros, com um filtro de esponja daqueles de ligar à bomba de ar, infelizmente alguns saíram disparados com as bolhas e ficaram colados ao vidro fora de água 😒, morreram, possivelmente tenho que ter pouca oscilação na água? @@franciscosousa5071 Fico muito satisfeito que de alguma maneira o meu video esteja a ajudar. Amano shrimps não são canibais nem comem nada que esteja vivo, a não ser que esteja debilitado, mutilado, doente, etc. Eles são scavengers, ou seja alimentam-se de matéria morta para além de algas, por este motivo são uma ótima opção para fazer parte da equipe de limpeza de um aquário.
