Thank's for posting this video, The Homa nation has been fighting for survival, and recognition, for a long time, and even though they have proven that they have existed in south louisiana for a long, long time as a seperate band, or tribe of native peoples, who have distinct tribal custom's, language, and tribal government, they continue to be ignored by the federal government, who has the power to say who is native, and who is not. It' total BS. Keep up the fight Houma's.

a rep from the biloxi chitimacha band convinced my elderly grandmother who has dementia, to sign up with their petition after a lifetime of being represented as Houma only! I am very upset about this splintering process and intend to file a grievance against this group and the BIA for advising them of this dishonest way or "proving" how "indian" we are.

Either way this is total BS. Because I need some foreign government to tell me I'm indian? I don't need them to tell me that I'm Native because as far as I'm concerned I am of the Choctaw (Chahta) Nation and that heritage runs through my blood. I will not have some outside government (american) tell me what I am like I need their affirmation. That's an insult to my dignity. The federal government can keep their recognition and I'll go on and continue the same way my ancestors did long before there was any need for tribal recognition and that is keep the traditions that have been passed from generation to generation in my family to my children so they an grow up the Chahta way WITHOUT the need of the American government trying to tell them who they are. CHAHTA IMANUKFILA ISHI!! ~ Choctaw forever!!
