Brenda has left us in person but survives eternity in her songs. Exuberance and joy leap from the speakers when she sings, her powerful brogue thunders forth a message as old as time of joy, light and boundless passion, that in the worst of storms our ship will hold her course, ride the worst waves thrown against us to better times ahead!.

I love this video .I saw Brenda several times in folk clubs back in the 70’s,she was such a warm, beautiful charismatic performer who embraced the audience into the generous bosom of her life. Her passion for her homeland was so evident and this song is the embodiment. In a day and age when patriotism has almost become a dirty word it is great that someone can stand up and shout it to the rooftops.I am English , I love my country , the countryside , the traditions , the people , the music and I am proud to say this is the land I love ! Thankyou for sharing this .Had a quick look at some of your other videos ,like your taste in music and you appear to also have the same feeling

Oh my lord! *gasp*. Your video shows scones with jam on top of cream. Like they have in Devon. In Cornwall we put cream on top. Only cover your cream if your ashamed of it...

@@lyndseykramer5423 Why? Don’t you think Brenda knows the difference? I met Brenda when I worked in Cornwall many years ago. She has a lovely voice, but you prefer to make a fuss about a picture of scones. I agree with you about that, cream on top, but why spoil a good song?

I heared here singing in about 1978 at Lahr im Schwarzwald (Blackwood Forest) in south of Germany. Wonderful! She opens your heart. Hope to come to Cornwall in August 2014.

Beautiful voice indeed; a lovely lady. We used to follow her round the obscure Cornish folk pub circuit years gone by. I think my favourite was her little song about the Tamar, the Cornish river. Anyone got it? She sang it on her TV series, late nineteen seventies, HTV, late Thursday nights. And that so simple traditional Cornish language Lullaby of hers. Poor lady, she's gone now. Peace n' love, A n' R

Hello Anthony I will look out for the songs you mentioned, I discovered Brenda Wooton by accident. in the late 80s I was sitting up in the wee small hours surfing the short wave radio stations on my new radio cassette player when through the phased short wave hiss of some foreign station came this lovely tune. I managed to record on to cassette the second half of the tune along with the French announcers comments. As I don't speak French all I could understand was the name which sounded to me like Beryl Wood ford! Then began a 20 year investigation to discover who it was singing. I went to several record shops but I was asking for “Cornwall the land I love” by “Beryl Wood ford”. I gave up for years, then the internet was developed! Great I thought and for several more years I typed in several versions of the name Beryl Wood ford but with no luck. A couple of years ago I typed in “Beryl Wood ford” “Cornwall the Land I love” and Google asked me “ did you mean Brenda wootton” “Cornwall the land I love”!!!! I was so happy!! I immediately ordered her cds on line which I really enjoy. She is not very well known shes like a lovely secret. I still have the old cassette with half this song. thank you for your post Anthony, take care "the obscure Cornish folk pub circuit" sounds lovely.

barnyification Hi there - and thanks for comments. Glad you eventually found the lady. Aye, we all too few faithful followed her from pub to club - she sang in odd remote places afore she were better known, here n' there and not always well advertised... Us trying to find peculiar little Cornish villages on stormy winter nights... Once their arrangements all went pearshaped and she lost her guitarist for that evening. She were going to sing unaccompanied but unfortunately I stood in - after a _very_ poor fashion - at the typically half-demolished pub piano. She and the tiny audience put up with me and after, she were kind enough to say I were "OK". A lively lady, real kind and friendly and always talkative over a pint - or three - afterwards, and that laugh! Rich and full and not entirely clean and utterly infectious. Later on at such as the Toubadour, late lamented Bristol folk club. Like as not with John the Fish (John Langford). That unique voice, a full expression of her personality - singing in English or Cornish or Breton and once or twice old Irish Erse - was so clear, and intimate and perfect for her songs. Recon I fell in love with her - well, I were very young and anyway she were married by then I think; seem to recall that she were born Ellery. My favourite were "Sweet Tamar" (river what closes off Cornwall). Lodges in the soul, that one, likewise the Cornish lover's morning song. She had a memorable TV series late Thursday evenings on HTV but my tapes I lost in the flood a few summers ago. We cried buckets when she died - R.I.P., sweet Brenda. Peace n' love, man - Anthony n' Rufus.

The jam, cream picture is correct, as, I believe, Brenda Wooten was not from Cornwall, but from Devon. Fabulous lady, wonderful voice, and loved Cornwall, and especially Thunder and lighting, a heart attract on a plate. White sliced bread, clotted cream and golden syrup!

38 secs in the video you insult the Cornish with a Devon violation. Cornish people put jam on first not cream. Brenda Wootton loved Cornwall. Respect her heritage and do proper research in the culture she loved.
