yes and the movie is a adoptation from the comic book which came long before the movie, i think the movie was in 2006 and the comic was released in 1982

they say so because in the movie V for Vendetta it has to do with the quote from V, althought in the song they changed it to 17th for the date that Qlimax 07 was being held

The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 was an event (holiday in england now) where a group of people tried to blow up parliament, Guy Fawkes being the only one of the conspirators with a military background (Spanish Inquisition) was put in charge of the explosives, when he was caught and hanged for treason. The idea of the whole plot was that we all have the right to freedom, the government cannot take that away from us. That's where anonymous got some of it's ideas. The mask was popularized by the movie.
