My husband DMs for a gaming store and does this. He has lot of young players and learned quickly that its the best way to keep their attention and keep everyone invested in the story, even when their character is not involved. Uhm... Actually: I think he's a theater kid. With perfect pitch you can essentially think of pitches as colors, it's almost as hard for them to be wrong as it is for you to misidentify red as blue. He's not perfect though, just close. That usually comes from the ability to "play a song in your head, then match it"... a trick used all the time by both musicians and theater kids. It's not perfect, nor as fast, it's pretty darn good though. Nearly flawless even if you can "sync it" with something known like a song, ring tone, or pitch pipe a bit before. Points please.

@@pymarathon um actually, true perfect pitch is genetic, relative perfect pitch can be learned, true perfect pitch can technically also be learned but with a lot of difficulty and constant training. There are simple tricks to remembering certain notes. He may just have heard the song a lot or got lucky. Tldr you get a point
