I’m an Australian and I lived and worked in London 1998-2002. Brett was a customer of mine. I was a florist working in Planet Organic on Westbourne Grove. He always bought flowers off me. He’s so charismatic and gorgeous. I was rather smitten with him

@@dominicaaaaa5547 You’re probably right, sir but I think it was definitely the last album by a band that totally caught me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting anything like it from Suede at the time and it set the bar very high. Even Radiohead would struggle to be as original yet still beautifully melodic. I hope that one day the album will get the recognition it deserves.

@@davidrobinson2776 nice to get a pleasant KZfaq alert been shouting at some bloke who wants to pop all the immigrants inflatable boats in the sky news comments bit. I agree though. I mean i was about 3 at the time but it is a massive step up from the first album and totally different from what the other big British bands were doing right. Would have been exciting to have been around for the release. And Hmm yes think I prefer it over ok computer and kid A from radiohead which I guess would be considered their most original and sort of their landmark albums. In rainbows is my favorite radiohead release though a 10/10 from me the same as id give dog man star ⭐
@davidrobinson2776
@davidrobinson2776 2 жыл бұрын
@@dominicaaaaa5547 Perhaps this conversation can be shown to future generations as proof not every exchange on KZfaq ends with one person saying “Your Mom.” I feel quite lucky to have been from a generation that experienced the 80’s and 90’s but we can come across as grumpy old know it alls who dismiss everything after The Libertines as complete rubbish. Whilst that argument does have its’ merits, I prefer to think great music is out there in vast quantities, just harder to find amongst the huge amount of stuff about.

To be fair, a DMS concert has a very different vibe to the average Suede gig
@hippiehappy5
@hippiehappy5 Жыл бұрын
I completely understand what you mean, but I also agree with Brett about the tone of the album. Whilst DMS has some tracks that will forever be the highlight of a Suede gig, there are a good few that have an 'album filler' feel to them- and I say this with nothing but love for that album. But they don't translate to live music as well as non- single tracks from Coming Up (are there even any, that album produced what feels like 17 singles 😂😂). Nevertheless, like I said, whenever I see Suede live the songs I look most forward to are stuff like The Wild Ones, We Are The Pigs and New Generation, whenever they treat the audience to it. But I agree that the DMS album as a whole has a 'smoking weed in a council flat in a high rise block in the early 90's' vibe, rather than the euphoric 'let's dance our t**s off to some tuuuunes' vibe you want at a live show. My opinion, don't shoot me!

There's a lonely comet in the sky tonight it's crashing all around us, and the embers will keep on burning, out of sight. Thirty six years I kept momentum through the Kuiper belt and crashed to earth, that night. Ha’Penny Bridge, in the middle of nowhere, I never got to watch the stream. I was flowing, so freely, but I was lost in this sorrid dream. As my daughters danced around me, opening presents, they were wishing for a gift. A father figure or mentor, and I let them down it seems. Ireland, where everyone wants to escape from, they're pissing in wind. For I never should have left my heartland that looked after me.
