David Bowie is a phenomenon of creation, the embodiment of innovation and the accomplishment of a new action. An ingenious creator of a comprehensive meaning that is difficult to comprehend. And this film is exactly what a David Bowie film should be - experimental, unprecedented, challenging, eclectic, vibrant and exciting. Brett Morgen, you did an incredible job. I am grateful to this director for giving this miracle. The film itself became the phenomenon that David Bowie was. Brett's final story is heartbreaking.

Mr. Morgen did an Excellent job, his film is impressive and very strong to those of us who loved Bowie and how he impacted our lives. I was fortunate to have seen Bowie four times (74, 76, 90 and 2002), my only regret is that the film only features the Diamond Fogs era of the ones I saw but nothing on Station to Station and very little on the Reality tour but in all, I highly recommend the film to all Bowie fans and the best of it, it's in IMAX.

I first learned of Bowie in 73 from my step sister. I was hooked and couldn't wait to buy his next offerings from then on. The Serious Moonlight Tour was my first concert and ended with the Reality Tour. Had I fully appreciated the musical journey as much as he appreciated life I think I'd feel more content... what a perspective. The film, albeit a work of art, sadly didn't cover some key albums enough in my opinion. That said, this is a vision from the director and I loved every moment. going to see it for the third time this week. If you have a chance, this needs to be seen in IMAX. The mixing of the music is amazing and will dance all around the theatre.... Best line paraphrased: "Everyone at some point will wish they appreciated life more."

@@Enticers The movie also felt short to me. Not because I’ve expected a complete summary, but because of the narrative used in the movie. There we can get a sense of Bowie’s spirituality, and then his mundanity and then during his last years we know he was trying to rediscover that spirituality back… In particular his last years and his confrontation with death had a huge impact on his personality, he really got his spirituality and I really think he closed the circle of his life in that sense. Again, according to the narrative used in the movie I felt that this part should have been more present in the movie. It’s a good movie, but it was lost in the way, somehow… In any case it must be very complex to deal and put any sense to a life and a career of such an incredibly rich character as Bowie was.

Just saw the movie, half was great and half sucked, and I am a die-hard lifelong Bowie fan all the way back to Ziggy. Most of the first 20 mins could have been cut to 5 mins, it was so dark and grainy, and too much time was spent on Ziggy. With access to all archive footage, and music it was disappointing. When David lived in Berlin there was no footage or mention of living and working and parting with Iggy for 2 years! Where was The whole Young Americans Era after David left Berlin and moved to New York? Why did they not show any footage or music while working on Young Americans Album? No Mention of The Thin White Duke!? John Lenon worked on Fame in the Studio with David and Luther Vandross was a backing vocalist. Young Americans was his most successful album to date! Where were the sound clips and footage of Young Americans, Fame, Rebel Rebel, Changes, Diamond Dogs and on and on!? Oh and they wait and play Starman at the end on the rolling credits!?? WTF? Lots of relevant times and iconic songs missing, and way too much dark abstract B roll film. Disappointed!

With Bowie's estate giving permission to archive footage, the use of his music & the entire back catalogue it all went to a total waste I'm afraid. Mr Morgan certainly wasn't the right director to try and galvanize the greatest musical project to date. It should have gone to a leading Bowiephile Brit who knew & understood David's thought & creative genius, somebody like Mark Adams, Nicholas Pegg or Kevin Caan. It's OK people on here commenting that they liked, loved or hated the film, saw him a few times live etc but when die hard fans like myself who lived through Bowie's entire career, collected everything they could, met him on numerous occasion, saw him live in concert over 125 times and then are asked to pay & watch the film....It does hurt. There is stuff out there that Mr Morgan never had access to but I doubt it would have helped in any way. Before a few months ago I only sold one piece of my collection, a White Label promo of 'Station To Station' with colour sleeve. And who bought it, David himself. He never had it in his collection. Well, when I was in hospital last November I was thinking who gets my collection when I die....Nobody...so in the last few months I have started selling it off. Sold about 20 items that made over 6 grand so far. Here's hoping the other 3 thousand items can earn me a bit more. Love on ya... (PS. who was the idiot on this BBC Breakfast broadcast that put up 'Starman' from TOTPops... 1973 when it should have stated 1972)

love David Bowie, but as far as I'm concerned this definitely never gave him justice, it was just one big long out of sequence, flashing scenes, that went on forever, anaphylactic seizure, nightmare, that literally made me feel sick with all these flashing images, that continued throughout the movie with some in between interesting dialogue from David himself, but that's all I would take away from this movie. 2 out 10 and I'm being generous.

If he had access to everything in the archives I don’t understand why he kept repeating the same clips over and over again in the film for no apparent reason… and not much new footage either. Was a bit disappointing tbh I’m all for a cinematic Bowie experience but the whole thing was very repetitive and dragged on a bit because of that. Also lots of unrelated loud noises and sound effects that muddied Bowies music, didn’t really enhance it in a positive way. I left the theatre feeling quite underwhelmed sadly.

Absolutely. I'm not sure why we were forced to look at the back of Bowie's neck as he walked through a nearly deserted shopping center at great length once, much less twice. The director doesn't seem to understand the importance of Bowie's music (or music in general) in the slightest. He does a GREAT disservice to the music when he starts adding sound affects of bombs and machine guns to the point of drowning out the music all together. This guy is an idiot. He thinks it's about him. He thinks he's making art. He's not.

Cygnet Committee, from the '69 album Space Oddity - I suggest the one that's had a remaster in 2019. A lot of great stuff got buried by the mixer's lack of experience, and he revisited it out of overwhelming guilt that gnawed at him for 50 years. Settle in though, it's about a ten-minute ride that takes you to a lot of different places along the way - it's storytime with David 🖤

I love some of Bowie's music. "Cygnet Committee" (cygnet= young swan)Webster's Dictionary,Copyright,2001 is a great example of DB's methods of cutting up newspapers randomly to get lyrics, song titles, etc. His inhuman detachment enables him to play soooo many characters thru his life convincingly ,relentlessly experimenting, to find one that would bring him success. Listen to his early music(Images 66'-68', The Man Who Sold The World, Hunky Dory, wearing dresses and all.Thank God some of his music was worthwhile, thru his chaotic and petty meanderings. From dance hall, thru acoustic-based folk/rock,androgynous hard rock, white soul, pop, etc.he amazed us with meaningful lyrics at times ,despite his news-clipping what-the-fl*ck.Lyrics aside, and before 1980, I have the following LPs on my best of all-time list: Z Stardust,Aladdin,Images 66"-68", and S. Oddity. But now, I want a truthful ,in depth documentary. Now despite my scrutiny---, 4 out of 25 all-time fav albums ain't bad. Thanks,Mr.Bowie.

It's very and interesting that Bret says he watched all David's interviews and learned a lot about how David thought.... I have watched about 1k videos of David talking, mostly interviews and I think the moonage daydream movie showed the complete opposite of what how David seemed from what he spoke. David hated people always bringing up Ziggy and disdained the rock'n'roll lifestyle, yet moonage daydream seemed intent on painting David as Ziggy the rock god. At least that's how I see it

The genius of david bowie reduced in an avalanche of images of noise without any common thread. The director had access to the archives to a gold mine and in 5 years he made a porridge on the bottom of snippets of far too intellectual and pompous interviews which don’t serve Bowie. White screens punctuate the "film": lack of inspiration? A stream of stills film images are visual assaults unrelated to what Bowie is saying. No common thread. Images of Bowie in 83 accompanied by earlier songs bursts of laughter stains of paint echoes added to fill an obvious lack of talent. Nothing about the next day Heathen Reality! A snippet of shameful Blackstar. Unpublished ones are extremely rare. Nigel Marshall would have made a diamond out of all these treasures. The director turn it into an indigestible porridge. I will remember Hello Spaceboy Craked Actor and all his songs. It makes me think: the film Ricochet is shown at least twice. Ricochet never… Ziggy Stardust: did the director bet everything on the fame of the lightning bolt? Before Ziggy: nothing. Complete mess. complete disappointment. I’m pissed so I'll stop it here. Love on ya ⭐️

listening to the interviews with Brett it's clear it's not a documentary as such , more of a psychedelic experience !

I don't get how somedays naga wears glasses then doesn't wear them for weeks strange...l,ve got to wear glasses 24/7 and l absolutely hate them..also where was she during the period of the queen's death until the funeral??..she also comes out with some strange statements drawing attention to herself maybe the BBC wanted to pull her out the firing line incase she embarrassed them...pretty girl but a bit extrovert

Being a Bowie fan since the 70s. I feel a tad disappointed. My god it was so overlong. I found the dark kaleidoscopic mishmash of visual & aural psychedelics unintelligible & pretentious. Bowie philosophical wittering on about the nature of time, life and other cosmic ethereal twaddle was almost laughable... No mention of real flesh and blood characters like Angie Bowie, Mick Ronson, Mike Garson, Iggy Pop etc. Much of his incredible and life-altering music got lost in a sea of unfocused otherworldly noise and jabbering... Finally what the f**k was the girl with tail about? Will not be buying the DVD.
