Just wanted to tell you guys, that you can buy these exact water filtering granules pretty cheap online (18€ for 1kg in austria). You don't have to buy expensive replacements

I drink alkaline water, can I use alkaline water in the this machine?

My new Oracle Touch arrived yesterday so I’m figuring things out. A couple of maintenance questions. Spouse and I will use it a few times a day. After use and rinsing the group head should I stow the portafilter locked into the group head until ready to use again ? I did that and I noticed condensation build up in the basket. Not sure if it’s ok to keep it there or stow the portafilter in a different spot?

Great video... Was thinking would it be a bad idea to descale, backwash and change water filters basically together every 3 months?

Thank you for your comment. Descaling every three months may be adequate if you have really hard water and do not use a Claroswiss water filter. Otherwise, I think descaling every three months is not necessary and may produce unnecessary strain on your machine. For the backwash and water filter, the machine will prompt you to do it when it is time, which will be about every three months. Have a great day!

Can I use bottled Spring water? The water in Florida is so hard. I tried to test it and even when it’s filtered through a Brita it’s coming up as very hard water.

Can you use Spring Water?...Like the one that comes in plastic bottles

You can use any water you want, except perhaps distilled water (the manual says to avoid distilled water, but some people still use it). Spring water is adequate because it has beneficial minerals. I hope this helps!

Thank for uploading this informative video. Curious what type of water you're using to fill up your Breville water tank? Regular city run tap?

Our house is out in the woods... so we are actually not connected to public water. We have a well, and thus a whole house filtration system. The water for drinking is purified and UV treated. This is what we use. When I did the water test strip for hardness, it was at a 1 out of five (very low hardness), so it should be good for the machine. It is not too purified I don't think because I still see evidence of scale around the house. Have a great day!

Did your machine come with the holder for the new filters? If not where did you get it

Yes, my machine came with the new holder. I couldn't find any holders for the new filters online, but I think that Breville customer service would probably be willing to send you one. 1-866-273-8455.

Yes, don't use filtered water, Breville might not make enough money from those super expensive filters, descaling tablets, cleaning utensils etc... update: OK, me being mr funnyguy... now, after figuring out a few details I have to admit - apparently water sensors in the machine will not be able to recognize the presence of water if you use zero-water or distilled water. You need a certain amount of resistance for the sensor to work. The easiest solution, while keeping the high quality of filtered water is to add a pinch of himalayan salt.

I just changed my filter and threw out the instructions. Do you recall how much water, if any, needs to be run through the filter before first use?

My manual says: "Soak the filter in a cup of water for 5 minutes then rinse under cold running water."

@@CoffeeWiser Thanks. I did see that in the manual as well. I threw out the filter instruction and was wondering if it had to cycle water through it like my fridge filter for instance. Thanks for the insight and the videos on this machine, they have be very useful.

Hi! Have you tried using a different(commercial) 58mm portafilter with your oracle?

Actually I haven't, mostly because I am not sure they would fit. Do you know if standard E61 group head portafilters would fit in the Oracle Touch?

If I did a descaling, can I keep the same filter without changing it?

The water filter should be changed every three months. If you descale and the filter has not been in the machine for three months, you can still use it.

Is it okay to use purified water? I have been using a Spring Water, but thinking on change it to purified. eg. Dasani. What do you recommend?

Are you using a water filter in your machine now? Is so, do you use the small charcoal filters or the big claroswiss filters? Are you concerned about the water you choose for taste or to take care of your machine? I think purified water is fine in general, but what matters most is the hardness of the water. Even within the same manufacturer, the mineral contents of the water will differ based on the battling plant and water source.
