For those having side leakage, grinding coarser and not forcing the press helps. When you press just enough to open the valve, don't press harder and just let it "ride" while holding the pressure

Agree. I bought the flow control valve with my aeropress never using the regular one at all. Never had a side leak issue.

I have the Fellow Prismo, which is similar, and use it daily for general brewing of regular strength coffees. The HUGE advantage is that you can brew the same original aeropress 'inversion method' without having to invert the brewer since the filter does not leak until you depress it so it is truly handy. And I use the steel filter so I never have to buy any replacement paper and it allows more of the oils thru when compared to filter paper so gives a 'stronger' tasting cup. imo the Flow Control Filter Cap should be included with all aeropresses which would make the aeropress *perfect*

Hi Josh, like the video. I have both the AeroPress Flow Control and Fellow Prismo caps. I also have the AeroPress metal filter. I have found that using both caps with just their perspective metal filter, I get some fines into the cup. I have experimented with various grind settings and short of grinding coarse (as for a Kalitta pour-over) I cannot eliminate getting fines into the cup unless I also use a paper filter. I use a Vario plus grinder with ceramic burrs set at factory calibration of 2Q.

The flow control cap seems to have major issues with side leaks. You can see this in the video at (0:26) which is why the cups taste really muddy, especially when grinding very fine. The silicone seal on the Prismo make it a much better suited product for this style of brewing.

I have one for the house, but am looking into getting the Go Plus for traveling. I need to put a kit together (scale/grinder), but unsure what to get (including a bag to travel with all of it). Please point me to some of your previous videos if any? Also, would the Flow Cap work with the Go Plus? Thanks for the help!

Crema will be very difficult to achieve without a very fine grind - and using freshly roasted coffee - within 7-10 days post roast - and ground fresh right before you brew. Following all this? - then try coarsening it up a little - and brew quick fast shots 👌 good luck

Thank you for the review. Just so I'm clear, the advantage of the new flow control filter cap is to allow you to brew in the aeropress using the conventional method, so that it doesn't leak as the standard cap does? Why don't you just use the inverted method and save yourself a few dollars? If the intent is to mimic an espresso-like brew, then what is the difference between this and the fellow prismo?
@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing Жыл бұрын
Nothing 😂 it is a carbon copy of the Prismo - other than - I do suspect it performs better at using both Paper - Or metal filter - as opposed to the Prismo where it is suggested to use the included Metal filter when brewing with it. Comparison coming stay tuned 👌

This great recipe I use it a lot for my 14-16 (414-474 ml) Long Black or Americano. Hi, I just noticed your channel and I really like it. I also have an AeroPress with a Flow Control Cap that I use all the time. Could you make a video where you make 20 ounces of coffee to fit into a Yeti thermos. I usually use 40 grams of medium fine grinds, add 100 grams of 195 degree F water, wait 30 seconds, add another 100 grams of water, then wait about 3.5 minutes, them add 350 grams of water to get it up to about 20 ounces. I just wonder how you would do it. Thanks!
@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing Жыл бұрын
Welcome aboard thanks so much for watching! Everything you've mentioned in your brew recipes sounds on-point to what I'd do. At the end of the day, it's going to be a 20 ounce coffee brewed with 40g no matter which way. This would be about the strength of a pour over coffee or thereabouts I'm guessing. Unless you use a slightly darker roast, or stir a little - I'd be looking to increase the extraction of the coffee - without over-extracting it - that way I could get the strongest and best flavoured 20 ounce coffee 👌 Sounds to me you're doing everything right though - and I always say - if it tastes good - DON'T CHANGE A THING 👌

@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing Жыл бұрын
There is some leaking - however - Ill take some responsibility there - the cap a) may not have been tightened all the way - and if this is so, leaking will occur; b) if you have your grind too fine - pressing down will be very hard and you'll begin to see dripping out the sides of the cap - so in this close-ups it's possibly a combination of the two. I'd also suggest the dialling in using the Flow Control Cap, is where you can get the pressure jsut right - where it is not blocking it up, where it is not leaking - though there is resistance and from here - brew time and agitation can be played with to find that balance in the extraction 👌
@jedwinlo
@jedwinlo Жыл бұрын
I also get leaking from it, which is disappointing from AeroPress. I guess it’s the price that we have to pay for the convenience of using filter paper, mainly because the lack of rubber ring, unlike the Prismo. When I’m using prismo, I can go as hard as I can without any leaks.

@@isl1ngt0n no it’s straight facts. Aeropress can’t by definition even with added contraptions make espresso. You can be offended or triggered or whatever but it doesn’t change the facts. If you want espresso there are cheap alternatives that make espresso. The Aeropress is not one of those devices. No one is stopping you from enjoying your Aeropress and doing whatever you want with it and enjoying coffee. You can even call whatever you do with your Aeropress, espresso, that’s fine call whatever you do whatever you want, it still won’t be by definition espresso. The Aeropress was not designed to make espresso and it’s a fun thought that it can but unfortunately it’s like squeezing apples and calling it lemonade.
