I thought it was about time I tried the the new Muntons Flagship range, so opted for the Hazy IPA. A simple kit to brew, and I provide a review at the end.

I've yet to try this range from Muntons but do enjoy their "handcrafted" kits. Looks like a perfect kit for Spring and Summer. Interesting how people are comparing them to all-grain!

Which of the handcrafted range would you recommend? I've tried American IPA which was ok. The Midas Touch golden ale caught my eye recently but am yet to try it.

Although this kit costs more than double the amount you paid on the cheaper Cooper's kit, the theory is that you get a higher quality brew. As you get habituated into the brewing process, you start to question if brewing from all grains is more economical. I've never added dry hops but saw dry hopper apparatus for ease of removal from the fermenter/keg. My understanding about dry hopping is that this adds aromatic hoppy oils to the beer without effecting the IBU. I saw that people tend to use a more heavy amount of hops for aromatic than for bittering. This made me think that maybe aromatic hopping is only worthwhile it if you are not bothered about it costing more expensive. I also saw some dogma claiming that taste can actually be perceived in the nose by smells, even though it is not tastebuds which is what they teach in schools.

Dont know what you did but this would be the best kit on the Market and looking at several other brew videos they have said the same thing, but as they say each to their own, i would give this kit 10/10 and well worth the money

Thanks for watching and commenting. As I said, it's only my opinion and yours is different to mine on this occasion and I'm glad you found a kit that ticks all the boxes for you. Each to their own as you say, that's what makes this hobby so interesting. Happy brewing.

I tried a few of these kits and came to the same conclusion. I could do better with the can kit plus extras. As of today ( 10/14/22) it costs me 66$ cad or £42 for a kit :(

I'm sure in time it will mellow out :) One question, when you did the 1st dry hop addition did you leave the hops in until you kegged or did you bag them and take them out after 2 or 3 days ??
@G-townbrewer2 жыл бұрын
I just followed the instructions and left them in there. No grassy flavours if that's what you're wondering.

Cool vid, what is the best beer you have brewed from a Kitt? Cheers

Thanks for watching. I haven’t done many kits of late, but the best one of done most recently was one of the Dark Rock Session series. I’ve generally found the Festival kits pretty decent too. Cheers 🍻

I really like your videos. I know you don't rate this Muntons Hazy IPA that highly but what are the kits you have enjoyed and would recommend?
@G-townbrewer Жыл бұрын
I liked the Festival Golden Stag and Festival Razorback, although I haven't brewed either for ages so not sure if they are still the same. The Dark Rock Session series are probably the best kits I've brewed recently.

@@G-townbrewer thanks for the recommendations. I've never tried the Festival kits but will give them a go. I have had three of the DR Session series and all were good. My favourite was the West Coast Pale Ale.

I tend to find things seldom live up to the hype! So not as good as an AG brew then? Have you checked out Geterbrewed? They have just released a range of own brand premium kits. Well worth a punt.

Funny enough I was looking at those the other day. They do look interesting. 👍

I've just bottled the same kit, came out just like yours and I'm a little disappointed, not hating on it but a tad too bitter and i got better tropical notes using cascade and mosaic together in a wilko kit added on day 7. Agree on the mouthfeel though, it's smooth to the end and quite strong. Would i brew it again?? In all honesty I want to love this beer as i really like hazy ipa but it just doesn't quite fit with me so i think not and will prob just pimp the hell outta some cheaper kits. Just as an aside I'm quite into mangrove jacks kits atm, have you tried any of them?
@G-townbrewer Жыл бұрын
I agree, I think you could get a better result by pimping a kit - using dry wheat malt extract and you favourite hop combo.
@billybass4189 Жыл бұрын
@@G-townbrewer yea I've been using dme hopped but after watching a cpl more of your videos i will try the wheat extract soon. Big plus is it also keeps the brew lighter.

@@billybass4189 If you use a kilo in a brew it will be nice and hazy as well if that's what you like.

@@G-townbrewer yep that's exactly what I'm looking for, minimum fuss easy brew. I might just do that with the Australian pale ale kit from mj.

@@billybass4189 I’ve brewed their basic NZ pale kit with a kilo of Wheat DME and a big dry hop and it turned out great. Good luck with the brew!

Thanks. I have tried the American Amber and the West Coast IPA. Not impressed , there are cheaper and better kits.

I’ve tried them and the hazy. Hazy is a much better beer than the amber or west coast.
