Excellent video mate. I totally agree with you about the hop spider. You don’t get the boil inside of the basket as you need. Just use muslin bags. One other thing…. That “immersion” wort chiller is lame. I don’t blame you my friend, because that’s the way it’s intended to be used, but it’s a waste of water and takes too long. I connect the chiller coil to the pump arm with a silicone tube and submerge the coil in a sink full of ice water and run the wort through the INSIDE of the coil and back into the Robobrew until it reaches about 21 degrees. I actually use 2 coils in my double sink filled with ice water and It takes about 20 minutes. I’ll try to post a video of my chilling system soon. Thanks LJ!

I use a 2 coil chiller in an esky and ice in the summer... one pass to fermenter at pitching temp. In winter my tap water is single figures..... I run back to the pool so no waste... or if I do use it in summer the water goes on the lawn, again something I would be doing anyway. I don't have any unusable water from cooling. Some early vids show the ice coil cooling.

I absolutely LOVE my RoboBrew!!! I swapped out the board before it would go out because apparently they’re not that good and have issues. I think I spent $30-$35 on the board 👍🏻 I’ve had it over a year now and for a good part of a year I was brewing every 3 weeks or so🍺🍺 Oh and the new board has the Brewzilla Godzilla instead of that little robot. I think my only issue was the pump clogging when I used hops without a hop bad or a hop spider, other than that, GREAT PRODUCT!!!!! Cheers man🍺🍺

Great video, congratulations! I wish, I had seen it before I did my first 2 brews in my new Brewzilla. It helped me a lot to reckognize my errors. I guess, I'll see it a couple of times again. Thanks. Btw., is there a reason for not using the pump while mashing in? It seems easier to me to start the pump while I'm stiring the mash.
@littlejohnsbrewing9199
@littlejohnsbrewing9199 3 жыл бұрын
Starting the pump before the grain bed settles can compact it and reduce flow, causing the recirc to back up and run down the overflow or out the handle holes instead of through the grain. It's not the only way and if it's working for you then continue to do it.

I’ll be sure to remember your video when I get my brewzilla 65. I want to do 10 gallon batches to split between my son and I. This will involve sparging I guess. Don’t know a thing about sparging since I got into all grain I’ve been a full volume biab.
@littlejohnsbrewing9199
@littlejohnsbrewing9199 3 жыл бұрын
The video shows sparge from 40-44 minutes, but your recipe will show you amounts required for mash and sparge if you select your profile. I'm not sure of the actual volumes on the 65 but on the 35 mash is about 22 litres and sparge about 10. Check for the video 'sparging' for a little extra info about the process and what to expect.

I'm new to all grain and expecting my Robobrew to arrive later this month. Couple of questions, that bottom fine screen I'm planning as you suggested to ditch it to avoid a stuck mash, do you still agree with this? Also like the hop socks suggestion. Can you recommend a nice easy first brew and are you sticking to 3/kg plus 4.5 for deadspace?
@littlejohnsbrewing9199
@littlejohnsbrewing9199 3 жыл бұрын
Still not using the fine screen. Stick with 3kg + 4.5.... or just go 22 litres mash in. Stick with a nice easy pale ale first brew.... something like 90% pale 10% carahell.... Hop of choice at 60 minutes for 18IBU, another 8ibu at 10 minutes, 4 ibu at 5 minutes and a flameout drop of 20gm. Amarillo is a good simple choice.....

0:54:09 Hey mate what joiner are you referring to here? Had a quick peek on bunnings website but unsure which one might do the job. sorting out my brewzilla purchases this week and trying to grab everything :) Also, do you no chill cube at all? Is there much to do in regards to changing the brewday hop additions etc to cater for it? I looked on "brewfather" and might have missed it but i couldn't see anything which would aid my in calculating the changes Which method do you find best? Cheers!

@@thegallows126 the joiner is just a plain hose joiner, 2 male ends, the hose slips over and clamps on. www.bunnings.com.au/pope-13mm-barbed-joiner-single_p3126201

@@thegallows126 I do not like no chill. It gives a lack of control over the hop finish.... and that's too big a factor to not get right. If no-chilling you need to push hop additions back 20 minutes. So essentially bitter @ 40 and all late hops go i the cube.... hence the lack of control, you can't split a 10, 5, 0 addition then drop some whirlpool or hopstand. It is a workable option for simple brews with just a bitter hit and a late hop hit, but I never liked the result. If you have the capacity, chill on the spot and get exactly what you are trying to.

What about whirpool ?
@littlejohnsbrewing9199
@littlejohnsbrewing9199 3 жыл бұрын
Run your chiller till desired whirlpool temp is reached, stop chiller. Add whirlpool hops, you can clip the hose at angle to create a whirlpool movement. You can buy a whirlpool arm that you just swap with the recirc arm and bang. If you want to whirlpool to create a cone at the bottom than you need to remove the chiller, but there is no need as the false bottom catches most of the trub.

I guess, that many people that see your video find it boring because of the length. That could explain the poor views/thumbs up ratio. Never the less, a newby like me who has just purchased his first brewing equipment, which happens to be a Brewzill, can gain unvaluable information from your experience. Just my heads up to continue the good work.

@littlejohnsbrewing9199

will vary depending on how much grain you use, typoe of yeast, amount of water, but final beer can be over 10% ABV but normal batches are 4-5% ABV
