Now where and how was: "the driver shortage has been proven to be due to Brexit" Provide your sources and links. Nothing else. This country has had HGV driver shortages for like 30 years because its a shit job that needs dedication, nous and skills and is / was poorly paid. But I did it for over 25 years (off and on). So do not lecture me on my own industry. What has made it worse was COVID because DVLA just closed down and stopped issuing new HGV licences, training courses were stopped, testing was stopped, DVLA stopped renewing current licences and most especially renewing and issuing key ADR licences. In addition to all that drivers had to self isolate even if they had licences. Added to that some EU drivers returned home as companies shut down and they couldn't get furloughed and the industry shrank for over a year. There were over 30,000 new drivers waiting for tests as of July this year and they are now being passed through at over 1,000 a week. Now if this is due to Brexit why: Are ships anchored off the West Coast ports of the USA? Answer: Driver shortages (80,000) Is the EU short of 400,000 drivers? Does Poland needs at least 120,000 drivers? Does Germany and France also have a shortage of more than 40,000 each?

@@audigex I would suggest you should stop jumping on anything to try and win the argument for staying in the EU! Poland has a 400,000 driver shortage and many other EU countries are in the same position! All the Eastern European drivers did was to drive wages down and put insurance premiums up!

@@PillSharks it's easy for the eu lovers to blame brexit.... they don't like the facts that hgv shortages are happening around the world from the uk to the USA and China

just remember, if you're going to use an American simulator, you'll be "driving" on the wrong side of the road, and sitting on the wrong-side of the cab to boot. (something to get used to, not unlike what my drivers get to do here in Canada/US; every now and again they must deliver new self-propelled Refuse-trucks with right-hand-steer (but drive in Canada/US). Take a lot of getting used to when drivers don't don it regularly. Moreover, on the North American continent there are far more "conventional" cabs, meaning with a hood (very few cab-overs in the scheme of things).

Yup...when I was pulling containers out of Tilbury, many years ago, we had to park up in loading area then get out and stand in a 'safe area' whilst loading.

Maybe Scott and all other drivers do in fact get out, but Scott may have decided to edit this out/in for time-saving on the length of the video session, like he (unfortunately) does with most drops (tips) and pickups.....Me humbly thinks, in Scott's opinion the audience would be bored watching this activity, when in fact it's a very important part of a driver's daily shift.....and would also provide a better picture to newbies or greenhorns wishing to join the industry.

theres twist locks on the flatbed that the container locks on to. makes them really versitile with it being able to carry containers and normal flatbed loads.

@@davidty2006 Ah - I see. Cool that the flatliners are made multi functional this way. As I am not driving HGVs I am not famiiar with the details of trailers. Where I live (Germany) they use special designed chassis' for transporting containers. Watching the the video for the second time I found the twist locks at at 6:55 (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/adODmddkm7Pag2g.html) . ;-)

@@uwe.herting.37431 Uwe....the twist-locks used on Scott's flat-bed trailers are identical to the ones use on the specialized intermodal container chassis. The marine & rail industries also use identical twist locks when securing containers on the ships' decks or onto/into railcars (when they stack these sea-cans on ships....up to 10x high..... or low-bed railcars, they also use similar types of "Interbox-Connectors" based on the same principles....and in Canada & the US, large railway companies double-stack the intermodal-containers too on certain routes.

Bollocks. (To use a LibDem phrase) The customs laws have not changed in Felixstowe except for Ro-Ro traffic. Because the boxes all come from OUTSIDE the EU where nothing has changed. Well except now we do not have to pay the EU External Tariff for the goods on those boxes that was sent to Brussels. That cost you and me personally over £2.6 Bn in 2019. And you just called 17.5 Mn people 'foolish'. Its time for you Remainers to move on and respect democracy and get out of your own special Groundhog Day dated 24th June 2016. And by the way 'third country' is an EU term for any country outside the EU. You probably meant 'third world country' but weren't as clever as you thought you were. But now of course we aren't a third country as we have very comprehensive trade deal with the EU. Bigger than they did with anyone else. With no tariffs whatsoever.

We are not poorer. On just ONE benefit (as I showed) we are £2.6 Bn PA better off as we no longer pay Brussels (not the UK Treasury) for the EU External Tariff the EU levied for imports of non EU goods.
