A fractured country, people looking past one another as we fail to listen to each other's concerns.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
The very schism of Brexit, regrets at voting the wrong way, on both sides, frustration that it's all still going on. When will it end? Who knows? Maybe our very own Brexit odd couple, Alastair Campbell and Jacob Rees-Mogg, can tell us. We took them on a trip to Lewisham market in south-east London, to see if they could find peace over the delicacies on sale.

Even inside central London where they "benefit" the most and immigration doesn't cause the direct issues that you see around the rest of the country it was still fairly tight. There was NEVER a regulation on Bananas. There was one for cucumber for some time, on the request of the food industry, and it wasn't really happy when the EU decided to end the rule. But nobody ever had any concerns about how Bananas are bend. The cucumber thing was mostly about having one common standard.
@watermelon7998
@watermelon7998 10 ай бұрын
The cucumber thing was also about the Polish producing and selling a type of gherkin (kwaszona, I think it's called) that was new in the EU, so prior to Poland joining, the Polish standards of kwaszona gherkins had to be added to EU standards (as in "what is a kwaszona gherkin"). I know because I'm Hungarian and we make them (kovászos), but only made them at home at the time, did ot sell them in shops in jars. You can still buy kwaszona gherkins in some British supermarkets and those EU standards are still in place in Poland.

2016 was the second referendum. 1975 was the first referendum. Leavers didn't accept the overwhelming Remain vote. And, no, they didn't wait 41 years, as is often claimed. The Labour Party promised Brexit without even a second referendum in its 1983 general-manifesto manifesto. UKIP was founded in 1993. Leavers didn't respect democracy, and now they're telling Remainers to respect a narrow Leave win on the basis of lies.

I really could not see the point on doing this the woman that owned the cafe we are still in the EU so there is still people coming here so may be your wages are not up to much and as for that dr well blaming your brake up of your marriage on voting leave think your marriage was not good before that this sort of filming is just daft and to be hornets why mr mogg would get involved with Campbell I'm not sure that was a good move

Every country has immigration. The EU did not invent the movement of people. I'm English and I'm moving to Malaysia it just takes a bit of effort I don't expect the same chances of the locals because I'm not a citizen. Immigrants should have to prove their worth to a country not just be treated to the same benefits as citizens just for showing up

Jacob regretted that the PM had not made it clear that those living in England from the EU were entitled to stay and indeed welcome to stay, but if that Gynaecologist and his wife are both doctors they are highly educated people and would realise that. We are not talking about illiterate poorly educated people who speak hardly any English.

There is something rather odd-sounding from the doctor who claimed that his wife left him because he voted Brexit. The doctor then went on to state that there should be another Referendum... would his wife then come back if he tells her he has voted Remain? What a totally bizarre and unbelievable story... was this man some strange plant?

there is this fantasy that brussels invents sh*t and imposes it on the EU member states. That banana law (along with all others) was proposed by an EU member head of state and the british representative voted to support it, hence it became law. What the smog has to say is irrelevant

Not really. It was about different classes and qualities of bananas. It actually replaced a British regulation that was already in place. It was just another bit of fear mongering by the Leave campaign

They need to start telling the whole dirty truth. I know brits don’t like experts and economists or lawyers. But there need to be an half hour of honest information about brexit every day. What will it cost? How high r tariffs on WTO rules? What is happening to the pound? What aces has the UK left? What r the costs of the 60+ other free trade deals that will be gone after brexit? How high r the costs of staying really compared to the benefits? How will it it effect food prices? Do we have to adopt the horrible US food standards?......... people still know nothing after 2 years

A marriage is breaking due to a political vote? Your democratic right to have a say? What kind of marriage is that? Grow a back bone man! I thought Jacob handled it a lot more sympathetically as i would have. It shows weaknesses if you don't stand by your decisions and accept the consequences in full.
