There's also a subtle dig at Messi when he says 'I had to feed my family' as the reason he left Barca, since he is a billionaire anyway. There was a subtle one in the previous episode too, when he says 'I bankrupted Barcelona for these (steaks)'

Football was a thing 100 years ago, many powerful football clubs of today were around back then, but football itself was seen more like a hobby and a local social thing instead of a global multibillion $$$ industry. Most footballers of the time, even the top level ones had a full time job and played on the weekends for little or no money.

Also using a term like "my dudes" was another of his sad attempts at being hip and young like that same episode. Given Lewa's older age, they poked fun at the fact that he is trying to hard to act young in order to connect to his much younger teammates.
