One minute he was visiting the bathroom down the hall from his Pentagon office. The next minute he was burned over 60% of his body from an unknown explosion and resulting fires. That was the hell unleashed on Lt. Col. Brian Birdwell on 9/11/2001.
He didn't yet know that a 757 passenger jet had been hijacked by terrorists and flown into his side of the building. Nor that he was one of the few survivors from his office sector of the Pentagon. Or the levels of pain and agony associated with his resulting recovery. That was all to come.
What he did find was that God had plans for him to survive that day, and eventually lead him to become a Texas State Senator. The journey he recalls is a chilling reminder of the depth of trauma that only God can heal.

I've watched I don't know how many of these I Am Second videos but I always keep coming back to this one. I was a drug addict and I can relate to Head and Lecrae's testimonies but for some reason, this one touches me more than any other. VERY POWERFUL.

Dang. I don't know how you guys keep doing it, but you keep finding people with awesome testimonies. Just when I think I've heard it all, here comes Mr. Birdwell. Tragedy, heroism, forgiveness, grace, mercy, pain, suffering and most of all renewal.

Brian I am sooooooooo-sooooooooo sorry you endured what you have, yet through it all I've seen your strength. I relate to many of these videos first hand, but yours Brian kinda hits home for me. I have a WONDERFUL relationship with God, and have for quite some time now, yet it's never easy having to say good-bye, or missing out on the chance/chances to say good-bye. I live in pain daily, never knowing if I'll make it another day, but I've the live and comfort of God that has me seeing life in a positive way, so I don't complain, but you Brian, on the days I think " I can't", you've most definitely made it that I'll be thinking of you and all you endured. Much love, light and happiness to you and your family. Continual blessings ALWAYS. Amen.

9/11/01 - I woke up and turned on CBS w/Bryant Gumbel (the clip is on KZfaq). I will never forget the woman phone interviewee screaming when the second plane hit, proving it wasn't an accident. I called a good friend at work - he was the first person I told and I was the person who told him. The day was sunny but oh so heavy on the heart. I lost that friend in April, 2008 to suicide. I strive on for God, and He has helped me ways beyond my thinking, just like He did for Mr. Birdwell.

Incredible. Brian, thank you so much for your service to our country. Thank you for your outspoken Christian testimony. I thank God for giving you the mental and spiritual fortitude to endure such an incredible experience and also for the bravery to speak about it now. I pray God blesses you for sharing it with all of us in Computer Land. Also thanks for bringing up that point about Jesus being separated from His Father. I never thought if it that way but you are absolutely right. What a thought!

@@lizc934 how does one endure great hardship, yet still lack compassion...
@ChibiPanda8888
@ChibiPanda8888 2 жыл бұрын
@@zachvance6265 step into his shoes for a while. If someone hurts you really bad, the normal response is to want revenge; to hurt them worse than they hurt you. He said he is working through forgiving those who hurt him, even though he hasn't done it yet. Trauma of the spirit takes time to work through, especially that much trauma (sometimes a long, long time). I have a family member who is older than I am who went through major childhood trauma and it has taken him his whole life to get to the point of forgiveness of those who caused him that trauma (and he is still working through that). I believe he will eventually forgive them but sometimes fully forgiving someone takes time. He isn't a terrible person for that. I mean, I'm not sure why I'm saying this to you because you seem like the type of person to stick with your perceptions even when people give out well thought out arguments against them, but I don't know. Thought I would try anyway.

So very emotional and moving. What courage he showed, and through all those surgeries which had to be very painful, yet he has lived to serve his country. And the forgiveness, it will come, if you know of Corrie ten Boom, she also had to come to grips with what she was teaching, and what she was able, by God's grace to do. It will come, he is committed to Christ and the Lord will give the grace to forgive. We all must face this, as we were all affected, if not personally harmed by this terrorist act. Forgiveness is healing, and we all need healing, and the Blood of Jesus Christ our Savior, covers all sins. We need to go to Him. Amen.

Concerns you? He was yards from death. He assured to himself he was going to see jesus.Instead what happened? Chunks were pulled off of him at ease. They had to disinfect all of his wounds which were all over his body. He screamed in pain but no one can hear. You were not in his position. Praying for him is fine, but keep in mind where he was the events beforehand. Saying goodbye to his son and wife. Who wants to see there father like that? We are all human, even when we should forgive, we dont.

I respect this man, but it concerns me that he says he isn't at a place where he could forgive the terrorists. God has zero tolerance for lack of forgiveness and He made that clear in His word. I pray he finds a way to forgive, so that he will also be forgiven. Matt 6:14-15 "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." See Matt 18:21-35 also.
