Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mike Davis ask Brian France if the failed drug test and suspension of Jeremy Mayfield was personal. They then cover the 2013 Richmond scandal involving Michael Waltrip Racing that led to France's decision to add Jeff Gordon to the playoffs in a 13th position.

Mayfield spilled the beans on his boss and embarrassed NASCAR, so France made an example of him by ruining Mayfield's reputation, career, and life.

Only the NASCAR contracted drug tester said Mayfield failed a test... No Court or Independent lab ever gave Mayfield a positive hit. Mayfield went and drug tested 40 minutes after a test given by NASCAR.. at an independent lab.. and the independent lab said clean .. While France's said dirty. I'd like to see the contract that France signed between him and his "drug tester" ... I would bet it gave France the option to be the sole actor in saying what the test said.. or didn't say.. and gave him legal recourse against the drug tester if he contradicted France.

I appreciate Brian France coming onto Jr’s show, and it helps to show who he really is. To me, he’s shown himself to be a vindictive, over-sensitive corporate politician that made a lot decisions based on ego and feelings. It’s my personal opinion that all current problems and gripes with NASCAR can be traced back to a decision that was made by him.
@tritontransport

Yep 👍 and like I also posted iit’s ironic that he mentioned WWE because him and Vince McMahon are two peas in a pod. I really saw nothing wrong with what MWR did then or to this day. Brian created a big gimmick of a points system, which is what actually made nascar look like WWE and MWR used tried to use it to their advantage and who wouldn’t? The reason they got penalized so hard wasn’t because they broke rules. They got penalized because Brian’s new point system made him personally look like a clown for creating such a stupid points system gimmick so he laid down the hammer because he was publicly embarrassed

That’s was I don’t know The exact year but I think 2005 or 2006 but no charges were pressed and it was kinda kept quiet. It was finally the most recent one that got him forced into stepping down. His family is Nascar and like his father Bill once said my sandbox my rules if you don't like em go race someplace else. Brian France always did what he thought was best to move the sport forward and that was his right. Whether you agree with his choices or not they were his to make. Easier to second guess others then to actually be the one having to make the decisions.
@tritontransport
@tritontransport Жыл бұрын
@@jimsachtjen119 the main problem is that Brian didn’t listen to the fan base and did what his ego wanted to do and what he thought would get him notoriety for shaking things up and not what was best for nascar no matter what fans said or wanted and he even had, I would say he had a contempt towards the main fan base. Bill Sr and Bill Jr may not have always listened to the drivers but they damn sure listened to the fans. A good executive knows that ultimately it’s the consumer/fan who runs and controls the entity and whether it succeeds or fails. A bad executive like Brian France thinks he and himself runs the company and ignores what their consumers say

The Mayfield event should have been handled better. Given that it was a few days after the death of a former driver that NASCAR also tried to hide away from, it felt like a cover up regarding that tragedy that Brian France underestimated. Spingate was handled horribly. Lash put on Truex who had nothing to do with it. Helped out Jeff Gordon who didn't earn it for the heck of it. And as a result a buddy of mine who rooted for Bowyer has no faith or trust in ESPN thinking they started the speculation & now with them gone refuses to watch it.

I mean NO disrespect whatsoever in saying it's still got a hell of a way's to go.......before it even becomes a remnant of the glorious motor sport it once was. Trust me. If you followed NASCAR cup racing as closely as many of us have back to the 70's & up through about 2006 ( + or - )...........you would totally understand where hundreds of thousands of us EX-fans are coming from. Dale Jr's podcast, and a few youtube channels such as "Stapleton 42" are the only things I love & follow in relation to cup car racing........and that's ONLY because much of their material is about the better days & people of NASCAR. I truly feel bad for the younger generation, and what they're left with pertaining to this sport. ( And no.........NONE of us liked Brian France.......for all of the obvious reasons. ) I can click on to watch ANY of the nascar cup races today, and it looks, sounds, and feels NOTHING like it once was. It's downright depressing, frustrating, and actually kind of eerie. Historic tracks GONE. Historic track/racing SCHEDULES totally upside down. "Play off's" and "racing periods"........the power greedy corporate freaks have turned it all into "the NFL/NBA on wheels". About the only thing they lack now, is having one of the Kardashian's as a race commentator. That's not meant as a joke either, I'm deadly serious.

Today's cup racing bears no comparison whatsoever. Hell, most of the younger drivers today wouldn't even be tough enough to hang in there for a 500 mile race WITHOUT "RACING PERIODS". I'm really glad you put him on because it is REAL clear that if you cross him, you'll pay. The fact that he dodged the Mayfield incident tells me that it was personal. He had his opportunity to refute Mayfield's claim of false test's and him looking down is a good indicator he's in the wrong. I think it would be interesting if you had someone from the raid team or someone from the independent lab that Mayfield claims to have a negative test from.

The France's business model came from watching Dukes of Hazard.... Boss Hogg Style. I haven't been able to find any independent lab or court linked lab that claimed Mayfield used drugs .... just NASCAR''s company/testing agent. For all the hoopla and charges and shxt cloud they threw at Mayfield.. next to nothing came of it. Sorry... but it just looks like a frame up job. The informant.. whose info led to Mayfield's house being searched.. Died in a chase fleeing from Police - had his own legal issues he was running from- Sounds like a botched "give us someone big or you're going to prison for life" deal. If Mayfield spoke candidly in his own defense.. I could care less if what he said ruffled feathers.

"What's a right thing to do" is just a fancy way of saying "how do we help all-mighty Hendrick in this situation". If situation was reversed (if Hendrick did what Waltrip did), there would be no penalty at all. The only reason why Gordon was put in the playoffs is because he's Jeff Gordon. If Bowyer or VIckers were cheated out in favor to Hendrick's drivers, there is no way in hell NASCAR would kick Hendrick's driver out to put in Bowyer or Vickers.

NASCAR is not a league or sports. It's auto racing, plain and simple. If you ain't cheating, you ain't winning. Brian acts more like a commissioner or a politician, rather than a owner. All other sports are a league, no private owner, NASCAR has a owner. The best days of NASCAR are behind them because the previous people in charge stayed out of the way a let the boys play.

I think a lot of his responses show that he should step down. When a person has to look up to every single time he responds to a question to me is not very trustworthy. Brian France gave a great interview, in my opinion. I never expected him to answer all the questions, or go into great detail. He probably should have been VP of marketing, or a similar title rather than CEO. He’s a natural BSer and salesman, not a calculating mind that typically runs large corporations. He definitely does have the right mindset of growing the sport. In the business world you’re either growing or dying- there’s no in between. I do appreciate him coming on, and hope he comes back.

He’s not going to answer straight honest to that question about mayfield controversy. Good, that Dale asked that question but who’s going to answer with honest and straightforward not you or me or even France. The day nascar rate went down is when they implemented the playoff system and it looks stupid and nascar is not football or basketball with against one team but race against other 43 cars out there on the race track. It’s good for nascar but bad for fans to watch and it’s still doesn’t work til this day.
