They falsely advertised Austin as being at Survivor Series 99 knowing he was going to be written off TV. it was the greatest triple threat match that never happened.

So he didn’t write Austin getting run over, he said they already went with it and he suggested the WCW line to Vince. He was a promo guy and didn’t become head writer until mid 2002

It was pretty balsey for them to do a stunt with Austin getting hit by a car when he was having neck issues.

What they should have done is humanize Austin. No car running him over. Heart felt primo about needing surgery. That level of emotional drama didn’t exist in the attitude era, which is why it would have hit deeper. Of course Vince can’t appreciate such depth:

Austin was suppose to be their Superman at the time. He also gave the fans no warning prior to wrestlemania 19 that he was leaving as an in ring competitor. Austin was never the touchy feely type guy that was not his character.
