The opening soundtrack for the film Mord Und Totschlag/A Degree Of Murder.
The soundtrack was composed and produced by Brian Jones (founder of the Rolling Stones) who also played most of the instruments. Other musicians who performed on the soundtrack include Jimmy Page, Nicky Hopkins and Kenney Jones. The film starred Brian's girlfriend Anita Pallenberg and was entered in to the 1967 Cannes Film Festival. There is no official release of the film or the soundtrack.
I do not own the pictures or the music used, this is only meant as a tribute to Brian. No copyright infringement intended.

I ponder what Brian might have accomplished musically had he lived. Such musical talent, to be able to pick up any instrument and master it almost instantly is truly amazing. I’ve never ever heard of any musician except Brian Jones who could do that. The only albums I like of The Rolling Stones are the early ones where Brian shines bringing new elements of interesting sounds to the songs. He was not only the founder, but the heart of his band. After he was ousted, they sounded like everyone else. At least that’s my humble opinion.

Becky Hernandez ......despite the Glimmers’ best attempts to remove any and all memory of Brian, in a curious irony, the Internet has seen folks previously completely unaware of the man, researching Brian’s involvement. Rest assured there are plenty of *genuine* music-lovers’ who fondly (in my case “best”) remember the early original songs that showcased Brian’s fabulous musicianship. I only need look at the first photo shown here to reinforce my feelings of which member *oozed* charisma and class. Keith was an awkward-looking kid and Mick a giggling, girly poseur who resented Brian’s popularity. Brian was a natural “star” and if for no other reason than his untimely death, will forever be remembered as young, beautiful and immensely gifted. Had Brian lived, I too always imagined he’d inevitably make his mark in Progressive Rock. Brian always cared more about the music and given his remarkable ability to learn instruments with ease would make Prog-Rock a natural progression for him imo.

Easily the most interesting guy ion the band. I love how he played whatever instrument that was needed to make a song great. The Stones ALWAYS had two frontmen MICK and KEITH and they still do. In Another Land was written by Bill Wyman alone, Brown sugar was written by Mick alone and Ruby Tuesday was written by Keith alone. Actually everybody hated Brian in the mid 60s. Or at the very least were annoyed by him. That included his own girlfriend, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman, Andrew Loog Oldham, John Lennon. Actually for that very reason I think its very possible he was murdered. The theory that Jones was openly spiteful to Frank Thorogood and drove him crazy seems highly likely based on everything we know about Brian from those days. By the way Brian didn't teach Richards Open E tuning. For one thing it was open G tuning that Richards became famous for. Concievably Brian taught him that. They were listening to open G blues songs before they every had a recording contract. But it was other musicians that inspired Richards in how to use it, namely the Everly Brothers and Graham Parsons,

@RonnieLeeDuck 6 жыл бұрын
Riff Raff, I went back and checked Keith's autobiography. You are right, It was Ry Cooder who taught him Open G. Which kind of surprises me. First of all, I would have guessed Richards had learned open G much earlier somewhere along the line even if he didn't pursue using it. A lot of Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf songs use Open G so Keith was listening to it a lot in the early days. Furthermore, for some reason Richards says he had gotten to know Open E and D tunings before he knew Open G. Again, odd since the Chicago Blues style Richards loved uses Open G more than other tunings. And Open G is the most easy tuning to get to. Incidentally, I don't hear much influence of Cooder on Richards' playing.past the Open G tuning Cooder was a slide player for one thing. Richards had a very different style than so I don't know why Cooder should be credited for anything.

I just heard a Fresh Air interview with Keith. He mentioned Mick, a bit about Loog. But not one word about Brian. He was not only kicked out of the band, but has been scrubbed and sanitized. What a bunch of thievin' creeps! I can understand. Mick and Keith had Loog, and took over Brian's band. A change in direction. And in a band of asses, Brian was damaged goods, made worse by the back-stabbing and being frozen out. Most famous bands had a guy or two who got replaced, often just before fame and fortune. But has there ever been the main guy, who taught the rest of the band how to play? Who wrote songs that brought them to the top? Brian wasn't some drummer, cast aside. He WAS the band. And the coup took about a decade, chipping away at Brian's power and confidence. He may have been a horrible person, but he deserved better than what he got. And was he killed by some guys working on his house? Because he was abusing them? That sounds so plausible. But we'll never know.

Your argument is flawed in a few ways; a) Brian did not write many songs and show them to the band. b) Brian acted that way to Keith mainly, and it was because Keith had an affair with his then- girlfriend, Anita Pallenberg (started when Brian was in the hospital, ill) around the time of this movie's production and release, and continued to date her. c) Brian was not a horrible person. He was touchy with a majority of the band for awhile for perfectly legitimate reasons, and during the last year or so of his life, was coming out of depression, trying to fix mistakes he had made with his children, bought a house, had a healthy relationship with a new girl, and was starting a new band. Already had sessions scheduled, in fact. Frankly, the fact that he recognized his mistakes and was taking another swing more knowledgeable and ready is all that should matter. Rip

Had he been anything other than a musician he'd still be living. Ahead of his time music prowess wise, but a child attempting to live and thrive in a world that once it has you down, is not likely to let you enjoy its riches. 27 Club.

Fantastic find! I've heard about this soundtrack for years. Also Jimmy Page assisted him on some of the music. At 1:16, Brian is playing the marimbas, where is that photo from and could you send me the link. Thanks for sharing this great piece of music history.

The old controversy "Brian didn't write any songs" BUT . Satisfaction, Paint it Black, Under my Thumb , Ruby Tuesday Like a Rainbow, 19th Nervous Breakdown EXIST because Brian took SHIT from Keith and made it shine . George Martin never got any writing credits with the Beatles, BUT in "Misery" he played the famous piano fill that made serious music critics pay attention. ALL the early songs were arranged by Brian . In FACT . Brian had an OPEN invitation to walk into any Beatle session bring an instrument and "improvise" .. How many other "Stones" had that trust from George Martin primarily? Once he shows up with what apeared to be a Guitar case and pulls a sitar (years before George was interested in it, On "You know my name". he ran out got a sax came back and just improvised. If you consider that Sympathy for the devil was a 4 chord Country & Western song and turned into one of the best songs in history because of Brian. You start looking at him with VERY different eyes. You HAVE to be a musician to understand a musical mind, Brian utter failure was NOT to impose his rights on the finished products because to Brian a PURIST Blues player POP was crap. But why did Hendrix pick two musicians to hang with on his arrival to London ? Paul McCartney and Brian Jones. and theres some amazing jams out there with Hendrix & Brian. If you JAM , you CAN write songs end of fucking story.

Ted Angle Thanks mate I KEEP fighting this battle. Heard an interview with "The Glimmer Twins" a few nights ago.Mr. Richards discloses he had been playing guitar "two - three weeks before joining "The Rolling Stones" (with a "G" as Brian wanted. Mr. Jagger said he played NO instruments AT ALL just a little harp. Mr. Watts admits he was a Jazz player an knew nothing about R&R (STILL DOESN'T the luckiest fuck on the history of music) and Mr. Wyman well "he" HAD an amp. Ok, fair enough .. and the songs came from WHERE? WHO was this altruistic angel who filled three albums? SOMEONE please tell ME! , Cause Andrew Loog Oldham was a spoiled twat. To the credit of Jagger he admits DECCA gave them a contract on NOTHING they had 3-4 songs but they did not want to fuck up another "Beatle" deal. REgardless that the contract was SHIT. SO SOMEONE tell me who is this little blonde dude who kept appearing in videos of the time (TV kinescopes) always playing a different instrument ? Oh?. Mr. Jones? The HEART AND SOUL of Blues in LONDON . The guy who knocked Pete Townshend on his ass.? The guy Hendrix called a genius while at the same time , making fun of Clapton . The guy who Sir George Martin COULD speak "MUSIC" to? And if you're a musician it is not B B B C# D DD (THAT SHIT WAS "SATISFACTION".SURPRISE! Before Mr. Jones arranged it, THAT was Satisfaction "E/ BBBC#D DD. NOT a GREAT tune is it? In fact it is a straight RIP off the guitar riff to Martha & the Vandellas "Dancing in the Street." - THERE YOU HAVE "THE STONES in 8 notes" The line "Can't get , no satisfaction " was a Mr. Brian Jones contribution. So to the kiddies (who are destroying the history of R&R and insist Paul is DEAD) This is way too cosmic to accept cause it requires THINKING. So.. we must be accept living with our memories and our 30 year old books and remembering that "cat" who Jimmy Hendrix, Paul McCartney & George Martin called a genius with the tear drop guitar who INVENTED the London sound andand had a way too tragic life.

Ted Angle Well .. THE SOUL was gone . With all credit to Mick Taylor the "kid" fell in a trap of vipers, sucking leeches . First the ethos of the band was gone - The dream of Brian Jones was no longer there, the amazing creativity wasn't there and no one knew how to play an instrument. You had a band of ONE "Mick Taylor" and he wasn't calling the shots. The Taylor era is punctuated by "moments" of sheer brilliance provide by ... Mick Taylor . "Time waits for no one" was one of the best songs ever released and it was ALL Taylor. From that lead , to lyrics it was a Taylor/Jagger song with the root firmly planted in Taylor' s anglicized Latin riff (NOT FUCKING EASY) . But, again Taylor "DID NOT WRITE" - why .. "he didn't get credits" EVEN though Keith was not even around when the song was written and Jagger assured Taylor he'd get credits co-credits on the song - THAT second backstab on a member was despicable. "Can you hear me knocking" - AGAIN NOT a Jagger/Richards but a jam that included; (READ THIS BIT OF GUNPOINT ROBBERY FROM Jagger/Richards): Rocky Dijon on congas, Sax monster Bobby Keys blows a killer sax solo over the guitar work of Mick Taylor, accented by the organ work of Billy Preston. Around 4:30 Taylor takes over from Keys and carries the song to the end with a KILLER guitar solo.) Where are Mick and Keith here? Considered one of the best 100 Guitar songs of all times, it was an improv Jam. AGAIN Taylor (nor anyone else gets credits) Even when Jagger/Richards had what could be considered THEIR SONG (Sympathy for the devil) NO Stone played on it. The typical 4 chord C/W was transformed by a barely coherent Brian Jones into an other worldly mix , NO STONE had the chops to handle. The AMAZING lyrics were plagiarized by Jagger from Charles Baudelaire and from the Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita (boy was *I* surprised when I red this book. Jagger JUST CLEANED UP in the stealing Department.). Just like "I wanna be your man" Jagger/Richards went through life stealing to the POINT they wanted credits in "I wanna be your man" since they were present when Lennon/McCartney arranged the song for them. I will admit Jagger HAS become a musician Richards has and always be SHIT , Watts can not play ANY drums and now , Ronnie well , he's a smart Gypsy (he is 100% gipsy) and is not even looking for credit . just GIMME MONEY. We CAN tell Ronnie is a GREAT composer from his work with Rod Stewart "Every picture tells a story" is in the top 10 songs of all times and Stewart bemoans the fact that Ronnie is NOT being given his due as a "Stone" and even Paul McCartney claims to Ronnie's AMAZING writing talents and the KILLER duo of Stewart/Woods. NO Beatle ever gave The Stones an ounce of credit and John Lennon called Jagger a CUNT and sheer poser who couldn't wipe Brian Jones ass. Sorry for the OVERKILL description but the really SAD part is that Jagger HAS become a great "interpreter" (NOT SINGER) and a damn decent writer but still a CUNT. Richards? .. well the man has the uniqueness of being the most hypocritical prick in R&R.

+mickavellian - Too bad Brian did not decide to be a singer/guitarist and then he could have written his own songs and arranged them etc. He probably would have had a longer life without Mick, Keith, Andrew and Anita dragging him down and making his drug and alcohol use heavier. He could have just hired a drummer, bass player and another guitarist and then he could have had control over his own band.

Brian found himself waaaay over his head when he took on that assignment. It seems he thought he could get the Stones to help him. But they all declined and told him he was on his own. He ended up with about a dozen musician/ friends to help him put something together. Among them were featured Jimmy Page on guitar, Nicky Hopkins on piano, Kenney Jones on drums, Peter Gosling on keyboards, Mellotron, and vocals, Mike Leander leading his orchestra, and Glyn Johns produced and engineered the recording. The only thing the movie is noted for was that supposedly a Rolling Stone wrote the score. It would be more accurate to say that Brian coordinated the writing of the score and played harmonica in it. Anita Pallenberg, at the time was Brian's girlfriend. She starred in the movie but the musical score was something less than spectacular as was her acting. The camera loved her, but Anita was more of a model than a serious dramatic actress... Neither the movie nor the score were very successful. Have you listened to it? It unfortunately wasn't very good. It should be noted that this was done a year or two after Keith observed in his autobiography "Life" that, "Brian was really starting to go off the rails"... meaning that Brian's drug use and excessive drinking were out of control ... that is probably why they all bowed out of participating in it.

Both Jagger and Richard have spent the last five decades in sly attempts not only to minimise Brian Jones' importance to the Rolling Stones and his crucial role in their own success, but also to assassinate his character on a personal level. Of course, the principal uncertainty of the Rolling Stones' history in the 1960s is not the plainly obvious fact that Brian Jones was the heart and soul of the band throughout it's golden era. The principal uncertainty is whether Michael Philip Jagger actually trampled over the body of Meredith Hunter at Altamont in his panic to escape the consequences of the anarchic, God-forsaken social environment which he himself had done so much to encourage in the minds of impressionable fandom with his pathetic Satan posturing over previous months.
