Following previous film about Brian Wilsons magnificent craft; 'Songwriter 1962 1969', comes this companion piece covering the maverick composers life and work throughout the 1970s. While this latter part of his career is rarely championed with the same kind of enthusiasm that greets his 1960s productions, it remains an essential part of Brians story and contains many, many moments of glory which compare favourably to those which litter the era generally considered his heyday.

Pet Sounds is the best Beach Boys album ever, but it was really Brian's baby with the Boys practically guesting. Sunflower on the other hand, is the best Beach Boys album as a band, all six involved in producing and writing the music. A spectacular LP.

'This Whole World' is one of the most astounding Beach Boys songs ever and the shifting of keys is another example of Brian's compositional genius. When a lot of people say that Brian didn't add much to the post-Smile collapse BBs music, I just roll my eyes and crank this spectacular song.

"This Whole World" or "Forever" should had been the lead single from "Sunflower".

Another good option would have been Slip on Through or Soulful Old Man Sunshine (why the heck they left that in the vault along with San Miguel is beyond me)

Jake Denton I’ve read that Carl blocked its release as he mispronounced a line in the bridge (“ol’ man shunshine) but that doesn’t explain why they didn’t just re-record that line at the time. It’s a wonderful song.

There's something about the way the early 70s albums were recorded that doesn't sound good to me. This Whole World sounds good when played on the piano but the way it was produced just didn't do it justice.

For me, 'Sunflower' was a letdown compared to the late sixties Beach Boy releases, which were, by and large, strong. There were a few bright moments on it, but 'This Whole World' certainly wasn't one of them. 'I Went To Sleep' ... there's a song with genius chord changes and melody, not to mention the harmonies.

Cool, Cool Water and It’s About Time and All I Wanna Do and This Whole World AND Tears In The Morning……. (beautiful piano refrain of Main melody at the end of this one) Sunflower” is a classic album by anyone’s standards. Particularly inventive are ‘It’s About Time’ and ‘Cool Cool Water’. It’s soft rock and pop ballads but it’s still great music
