the difference being NBA is allowed to fix the outcome of games. Pro sports in US are an entertainment. Sometimes it's scripted. Like a TV Show. It's just that they don't like someone else doing it. Stuff like this is happening every night, the bettors and players just aren't so blatant. There's leverage to be had on everyone, and there's too much money at stake to think it's not going to happen. NBA made a profound mistake getting in bed with the sports books. The gambling programming is disgusting and will further tank the ratings, leading to even worse programming and a downwatd spiral.

Jontay Porter betting against his team is proof that the Raptors (and other NBA teams) tank in a way that involves direct instructions to coaches AND players. Focusing on employees for using the tank games information and not the owners and GMs for creating them is disturbing. 🤔

Also consider the frequency. He was caught for this activity which happened in a short amount of time. But there's no telling how much we don't know and how much other betting he was doing. A 10 day NBA contract is $200k. He had a great income and was still doing this. Seems like someone heavily addicted, which usually involves recklessness and frequency. There's no telling what his gambling debts were from his G League time.
