Join us as we take a daytrip by train from Alicante Spain up to Costa Blanca, Spain, Altea, Benidorm and Calpe. We will explore the beaches of the Costa Blanca coast and visit the old town Altea and Calpe. Both towns are located on the Mediterranean coast and it's a beautiful tram ride to get there. See the best way to explore the Costa Blanca communities North of Alicante.
In Calpe, we were so impressed with the expansive beach and wonderful views of Calpe (Calpe) rock. For more info on Calpe Rock Park and hours of operation, see the link below:
www.calpeonline24.com/info/pe...
Altea has the most beautiful old town, filled with narrow pathways and winding streets. There are many lookouts from the old town where you can see out over the Mediterranean coast.

Having spent 7-8 years traveling (mostly around the mediterranean) but months in each country looking for a place where we could live long term. There are so many great areas, but in the end you find a place that resonates with you, for what ever reason. When you find it you know. Our long term stay place is Altea, close to many great other areas for day trips, and each time heading back it just feels like home. Don't regret buying there at all. Calpe is less than 15 minutes, Altea city center less than 15 minutes, 5 minutes to the beach and sailing club. People are great and if you are ever back Brian and Carrie gives us a shout and could trade some fun traveling stories. And during off season it's actually a nice break from high season, actually seems like a completely (quiet) different place. Quick note on the tram, they are standardizing track and finishing a bridge near Benissa, but eventually it will be a single, modern high speed tram.

Doesn't seem you gave Calpe much of a chance. If all you saw and experienced was what you show on your short video, you really missed out. There's another mile and half of seaside walk you missed on the opposite side of the Peñón de Ifach (The Rock). The Peñón has some spectacular views with some great hiking trails (be careful though). There's also a gorgeous walk way around the east side of the Peñón. You might had gone during the off season, but Calpe has some fantastic restaurants and pubs/bars. Thanks for the video!

Altea boardwalk is great, you should try to get back sometime (they are doing a big update so the boardwalk will be more like a park with no cars). We will be back to our Cap Negret apartment at the end of the the year. New Years is great in the old town (bring your grapes for good luck (eat one per chime of the old clock tower). Try Maná restaurant near the port and Alte Art in old town. If you want a great hike try Sierra de Bernia. I think the locals say Altea with a long a sound in the name instead of a long e sound. Cheers and we will buy you a beer next time you come back. Rich and Deb from Buffalo NY.

The "Calpe Rock" is called "Peñon de Ifach". Although many people call it "Peñon de Calpe", that's not the real name. And if you think to do some hiking you can go on the top, but it is quite dangerous (slippery rocks because of so many people passing). You should be experienced, go up in the morning and go back in time (with daylight!) and wear closed shoes. Take enough water with you. In the middle you will have to pass a dark tunnel.

Hi Brian and Carrie! I've been loving watching your travel videos this summer! We are heading to Valencia to visit our son who will be living in Valencia for the upcoming year while in college there. We plan to have about 10 days total and are wondering if you could suggest a small itinerary of your favorite places to visit during our time. Would you suggest we head to Alicante and also Altea and Cape while we are in the area? Thanks for any input you can offer to us. I think we will have our own rental vehicle. Thanks!
@BrianandCarrie

If you have a vehicle, it would be easy to take a day or two and explore the coast. We very much enjoyed both Altea and Calpe as well as Villajoyosa. All three of these towns had something to offer. And of course, Alicante! So to answer your question, yes, we loved the area!! Have fun and safe travels!! Cheers!!🍻

I live watching the videos in rainy, soon to be snowy E WA. My husband found your site. I think a big tip about Spanish would be to pronounce every syllable. J has an H sound. ll is y. La Jolla is Lah Hoy ya. The letter i is long e. I think Kelp is actually Cal peh. Como se dice is Coh Moh Say Dee Say. Pointing gets you far. Hasta Leugo! (Ahs tah Lou eggo go)

Hi Valentina. Yes, there is a fast train from Valencia to Alicante. The Renfe train only takes an hour in a half and each train station is in the city center. depending on how much time you have you will need about three days in Valencia and probably 3 days in Alicante. We would use one of those Alicante days to take the tram up the Coast to Altea and Calpe. Safe travels!! Cheers!!!🍻

If you are going to come to watch places and talk with people from other countries, then is ok. If you want to understand the spanish (not spaniard) way of life, the culture, and so on, then try to speak spanish.

Guys you have to blend with the locals. Look 4 tapas bars rather than beach bars. Then look markets and buy cheese or ham, chorizo... Benidorm is very diferent as there are lots of skyscrapers beside the beach. Look also 4 inner towns like Biar or Villena (nice well preserved castle XIII C.). C U

Thanks Javier! Great advice. We do avoid the beach bars (too expensive) and get our food from the local market. We need to do better at eating out at the "ma and pa" restaurants and hope to get more comfortable doing so soon. Our next stop is inland and we are going to be exploring smaller towns in hopes to "blend in" better then we have been. We didn't make it into Benidorm to explore but the view from the tram was impressive! Thanks again for the advice... CHEERS!!
