This is the correct way to spool a new baitcaster and a spinning reel with fresh fishing line. It can be tricky so take the notes I mentioned here so you start good and finish well!

I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well kzfaq.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

A good tip I use is to run hot water in your sink and drop the new spool of line in and wait couple minutes then start filling your bait caster. It cools down on your reel and changes the memory from 6” to 1”-2”whatever your reel spool size is. Thanx for the video Brian. Fat Fins Friends✌🏻

Just found you. Your comments about "getting intense" struck home. I'm 71, and used to do a lot of fishing with my dad in my teens and early twenties. Then I stopped. I picked it up again about 6 months ago, and to my surprise, found myself spending an hour or more every time I went fishing, dealing with tackle (mainly line spewing out of control, wrapping around my reel, developing knots, hooking myself or clothes and otherwise making it impossible to enjoy myself, which, as a retired person, is exactly the reason I started fishing again. Now, after screwing up putting my line on my reel, and having to cut the line to get it off, I bought a Pacificsun reel machine, which spins the line as it comes off the package and into my spool. Still problems. I never even noticed these problems when I was younger. Second surpise is I can no longer see the line clearly to tie anything to the end of it. I'm working on a magnifying set up which should help with that problem. ALL I WANT TO DO IS GET TO THE DAMN LAKE, PUT MY BAIT OR SPINNER OR WHATEVER ON THE END, AND CAST , WITHOUT HAVING MY LINE COME OFF THE REEL LIKE A POORLY MADE SLINKY TOY. Even though I managed to screw up spooling a baitcaster reel, I still think that a colorful braided line might be easier to see for tying knots, and also avoiding the demon memory syndrome. At least it might curtail the moments when my wife comes into the room, takes one look at my face and what I'm muttering, and knows enough after 50 years to immediately walk away . I WANT SIMPLE. What do you suggest. I do mostly lake fishing (once my technical problems are resolved. Some stream or creek. Also, what size reel, line, weight of line. THANK YOU.

Once again you have given some very good advice. I actually like to change out my line. I find it relaxing. One thing I like to do with either spinning and baitcasting reel is the next time I hit the water as I'm heading out I let the line off of the reel and then once it's done I bring it back in between my fingers to keep the proper tension. Since the line is wet you won't burn your fingers or ruin the line with I thought spot. Again great video look forward to watching more and to follow you all season.

Love your videos, Brother! I use spinner reels only because I am too dumb to use a baitcaster and here are a few tips that I have learned... When putting braided line on a reel, I tie a double knot and apply a small dot on the knot with super glue to secure it in place. When you have to replace the braid all you have to do is scrape off the old glue. When I am using flouro or mono, once I fill the spool I will take the spool off of the reel and soak it in hot water twice. Each time for about 15-30 minutes depending on the line diameter. Then I put the spool back on the reel and line it through the rod and take it outside and tie the end off to a solid structure and walk the line off to the end and start reeling in. Every 15-20 feet I stop and pull the line to where my rod tip bends and count to 10 . This does 2 things, #1 Tests the lines durability in various areas, #2 Helps to relive the lines "muscle memory" from production. Much love to you and your family, be safe, and keep up the videos!

@@MrBigdawgstatus09 Based on recent studies on clarity, abrasion, cast ability, knot strength, weather resistance, & sensitivity SEAGUAR is on average 30%-40% better than other lines & IMO once you get past 6 lbs test SEAGUAR has a way more connected feel in hook-sets too. P-Line is really good too, & people like my dad only use Vicious, so it’s up to preference. I started backing all my reels with braid but I put a little bit of electrical tape on the spool first. I really don’t like fishing with braid as the main line as I just don’t really like the feel. The only reason I use the backer so I don’t have to buy as much line. I like to replace my line on the reel after each day of use if it was the main setup I used that day. If the spool holds the a lot of line I will just cut off the amount of line I thought I was using. I fish for sand/white bass mainly and I will use 4pound mono. You gotta keep that thin line in good condition so it doesn’t snap on you. The best 4pound line I found is the Trilene XL smooth casting. I’ve tried others and nothing I’ve tried comes close….Floro on the other hand is a different story. I stayed away from it for years due to $. I haven’t found one I want to keep yet so I pretty much but a different kind every time.
