He is also the last Presidential candidate to be leading in both Texas and California that late in the cycle. He lost because he stopped campaigning in late July then started up again in October. Bob Meyer I think one of the biggest factors in him losing the race was the speech he gave to the NAACP. He referred to them “you people” or “your people” and he was portrayed as a racists. I agree with stockjonebills. I've always thought the perfect debate would be without an audience, much like the 1960 debates (I think).
