My first experience with "knock off" M18 batteries was terrible, but recent purchase has worked out fine, they hold up charging daily, a case of 8-6.OAh was $150.00, Home Depot 1- battery $200.00

I used to take apart my toys as a kid just to see how they worked. Now I work in a manufacturing shop making stuff and I still take things apart usually to try to fix them and see how they work.

I've bought a 2 pack of Energup 2.0 M12 batteries off Amazon and I havent any issues with them. I'm actually happy with that purchase.

I've been buying two packs from ebay for $16 before tax they have been great and 2.5hr batteries I have about 8of them now

I have found that the knockoff 6.0ah m12 batteries will often not be allowed to charge on the charger, because the voltage gets too low when they’re run to fill discharge. If you stop at 1-bar and charge em, they work fine

Where the hell are you getting genuine ones for $20 a piece??? Can’t find them anywhere for under $40 a piece

So, moral of the story- you bought Milwaukee tools cause you wanted quality, and if you wanna continue having a quality working tool, use Milwaukee batteries.

I bought 2 1.5 amp 12 volt Milwaukee knockoff batteries about a year ago and funny enough they've actually held up amazing. Fit good,work well,last a decent amount of time,survive abuse,I must've just gotten a good pair. I'll never buy them again because I truly believe I just got a good batch and it'd be a gamble to buy more and have the same power lmao. Ive used them on the m12 air compressor,ratchet,impact driver,rotary tool,right angle die grinder,USB lantern light,etc. Once in a blue moon one won't charge but eventually starts charging again but not a big issue.

You could probaby put a little dielectric grease on the terminals so the connector slides in esier rather than binding and crushing the thin terminal friction connectors.

At least from an Amazon perspective, if you reach out to the supplier telling them your issues, they typically send you a complete replacement and don't want to waste the shipping cost to return the bad one. Then you'll possibly have 2x the amount of batteries but no telling how long you'll be able to use the bad ones (if at all). They obviously make enough profit to do this, so the continue playing the odds that the batteries are good enough where people wont return them.

lol $20? the minimum price I'm seeing milwaukee batteries for now is $70!! There are a lot of different knockoffs on amazon now, though. I'd like to see a more modern test of them.

ConGrats on all the videos Brian wtg!!! i enjoy learning from you. you make it look so easy so i too try to just take a sec relax then go back at fixing my problems.... i just recently fixed my 2015 Harley Street 750. the starter assembly bearing went bad. reason was the bearings themselves were not assembled correctly from the manufacture. they are a 1-way bearing. i found the problem sitting on a chair holding a bought new and the old one. i went and watched a few of your videos... i relaxed sitting it that chair. there it was those bearings were facing different ways. and the 2 1-way bearings were not the same in thickness. so i swapped the new to the old aligned all the bearings the correct way and it worked. starts up faster than new. runs better than new. whats odd is it acted like fuel shortage or starter, solenoid problem, or relay or fuse. so i replaced all of those and problem was still there. $20 ebay part plus case gasket and roller timing chain bearing which was cheap, i ended up ordering those from a suppler in Maine. Harley wants a $400 plus labor to replace the whole assembly they say. bet they add in parts too. there is a clutch basket where the1-way bearing fits into. but the bikes clutch basket is on the other side of the bike.... i had to hand lead them just for part #'s. the dealer here i got no help at all which was disappointing since i bough the bike here. Dover dealer did feel bad because they had no answers. so i was able to use them to get my problem fixed searching for cheaper parts. i even got Timkin Roller Bearing here involved since they are close by. and some of timkens dealers involved. which helped with prices.... when i located a ebay sale. haggled ebay just for giggles and that paided off... took me about 3 weeks but i got it fixed correctly. cool footage since i grew up on as a farm boy.. lol thanks for sharing

Most people assume the batteries are junk. That could be so, but with the tons of testing of done, it's more like the charger that's an issue. People run the battery down, slap it in the charger, and get the green and red light that says it's dead after two months. That's not the case actually. The charger just gives up after about 10 seconds when trying to charge a completely dead battery. So, either dont run the battery down all the way, or when charging, flip the charger on and off several times, so that you get a few 10 seconds of charging. Eventually the battery will get up to a level where the charger doesnt give up and think it's a dead battery. Or, rig up some wiring and connect it to a car charger that doesnt shut off for a few amps for a minute. That should bring it up to a level that the charger doesnt give up.

Great tips! Was just thinking about buying some more m12s. I harvest my old ones for the good batteries. Sometimes one battery fails. I take out the other 18650 batteries and use them in my flash lights.

I bought some knockoffs and they must have been a good batch. They last as long as the original. I took them both apart and they consist of 3 18650 li-on batteries. I happen to have numerous batteries of these kind for my vape mods and flashlights. YMMV.

I've Had terrible luck with Milwaukee batteries!! Out of five a (9ah, 6ah, 5ah, 2ah and a M12 2ah! The only two left alive is the 6ah which is fully functional and the 9ah will only charge to 2 lights, the 5ah and the 2ah I just took out of the packages and found they would not take a charge, and they're out of warranty! This guy I used to work for back in the 80's bought himself an ultra-light aircraft, and first time he either tried to take it up or was practice landing he bounced it off the ground so hard it snapped off all the guy wires on the wings! It scared him so bad he never messed with it after that and left it parked and he's a person that usually thrives on activity like this. Quite a few years ago we came back from a bike ride and noticed our house was surrounded by the fire dept. well from a distance this scared the crap out us because the first thing we thought of was a fire! But the closer we got to the house we noticed something strange, somehow our house gave birth to an Ultra-light aircraft, and it was laying upside down on the roof! I guess he was having engine trouble and turned around to go back home and when he passed over our house his motor quit and he decided at that time to take advantage of the landing strip we have on the roof of our house! But everything turned out fine and by the grace of God he only got shook up a little.

I had a 4AH M12 knock off, it worked for two wheelnuts on a car? AND GONE! :P. Send it back to get my money back. It could have been the vibration really that ruined it. As a impact wrench kind of vibrates quite a bit. Now I'll by the original for those kinds of jobs, and maybe a knock off for things like a drill or a saw.

tool truck guy told me 160 dollars for the big milwakee battery, I've had large rubber bands around my cheepy knock off batteries since :) mine the retaining tabs just plain broke off...frustrating but worth the money savings!

Take one of your dead MW batts, and simply replace the 18650's with good ones. You can find a guy on eBay in the US who buys in bulk from Alarm companies. He usually sells in lots of 50-100, however he tests each and every one, and lists the maH rating on them. The cheapos are ONLY cheap because they are rewrapping scavenged laptop batteries. Often times you can see the previous spot welds on them from where the old connector was pulled off. You can rig up a cheap spot welder with a car battery, motorcycle solenoid and some copper nails from HD for very cheap, vs trying to solder them. There simply isn't enough battery supply to meet existing demand, not to mention the market for consumers looking to do this sort of thing. Better yet, save the hassle and buy a 3rd battery from MW to use in rotation.

They work great in the heated gear. But I always wondered how they would be in the tools.

I guess you get what you pay for when it comes to batteries. I don't own any Milwaukee power tools but if I buy cheap batteries for my camera I always regret it. Thanks for the information Brian.

Just fixed my problem with knock off batteries mine didn’t lock heating them up tomorrow didn’t want to spend a bunch had some m12 impacts gave to me said didn’t know if they worked all worked like new

Put a small piece of shrink tube behind the black lock between the red part and black lock I have aftermarket batteries that used to come out fixed it up that way

I never had a "good" knock off battery. I just resorted to paying the price. 😁

Had knockoff battery for another brand battery tool.. it was a piece junk. First couple uses it held up. After 5 uses one of the two completely stopped working. The second one fell quickly on performance.

My genuine M12 always drop out. I don't think it's just the knock off, probably more how frequently you use them

I love Milwaukee tools but those little plastic tabs that hold the battery in have got to be one of the worst engineering idea's I have ever seen, if the tools fall off the table and lands on the battery one of those will break off and then the battery will not stay connected. I'm actually thinking about changing brands because of it I have had it happen to three batteries and the larger batteries are the worst they don't last long, and as a business owner I have to watch the $

I have a couple of milwaukee brand m12s that slip out and 1 that I have to kind of twist to get it to run my ratchet

I use an elastic to hold knock off battery in ratchet works great. Oem 2ah batteries have charging issues look it up.

I wonder if the OE battery parts are compatible. Maybe use the OE dead batter shell and the cheap battery insert. Have you ever thought of making a gyro copter like the one in the Mad Max movie. That would be a kool project.

I use knockoff batteries and they work great. I have the m12 4ah battery which is likly lower like 3 or maybe 2 but for the price can complain takes off lug nuts of 1/2 ton trucks thats All i use them for really. And in the case they go bad i can replace the cells with lg or samsung cells

Good repair on the battery lock tangs

I bought a set of generics and noticed they didnt have the kick the Milwaukees had on my ratchet so I tried them on my Milwaukee die grinder and it killed both batteries instantly. Opened them up and they were using an 18awg wire to feed the power terminals. Even my M18 "6 amp" knock offs cant compare to my "5 amp" real ones.

In Europe, at least where I live, the genuine 2 amp hour batteries are 49-59€ a piece, and you can get knock offs for 10€. Here it makes a bit more sense i guess.

Milwaukee on brand batteries are currently $50 and up from home Depot

The vanon batteries I bought a year ago fit tighter than the milwaukee ones....and they've worked just fine in all my tools and charge fine. They just die a little quicker. The big 5.0 knockoff for 15 bucks way outlasts the 2.0 Milwaukee's

For being a fellow conservative brother, it boggles the mind as to why you would be an Amazon Affiliate Prime member, and go through the hassle of "identifying proper" Chinese Shite. This is one of the reasons why Milwaukee is slowly moving to 100% production to China. This is also one of the reasons why I have no options on buying a quality USA made automotive part because the majority are now made in that country.

Cheap battery packs dont work great on all tools and brands

This video is going to do great! I have found that it's just worth it to bite the bullet and buy genuine batteries, except in my Ryobi stuff (which I am phasing out as it breaks). All the Ryobi Lithiums have problems where they let the voltage get too low and then they won't take a charge. I did a video on how to brink up the surface charge and make them charge again, but it a huge pain. I've had better luck with some of the knockoffs in Ryobi.

Driven a thousand+ 3/8-16 bolts with 1st gen ratchet. The ratchet head heating up is an issue more than the batteries.

I ground the cheap batterys down and they fitbin the tool fine. Is it ideal no but it works. Also my china one work just fine in the charger but i bought a different brand although they all probably come from the same place

Brian, is it really worth it for $10?? Now if this was one of Milwaukee's M18 12 A-hr batteries that go for over $200@ then certainly it would be but for $10 who cares? That's two Pro V1 golf balls and I blow through that every round.

Had two Milwaukee's batteries stop charging the second time placed in the charger. (M 12) more than a year old so Milwaukee wouldn't replace.

You can heat the tabs and pull it away from the pack and it will hold... But they still suck

have a question. if anyone could provide some insights. have a 2007 ford fusion 2.3L I4 5 speed manual, 84,000 miles, runs good. have the chance to trade into a 2014 ford fusion eco boost with an automatic transmission that has 82,000 miles on it, runs good. would you keep the 2007 ford fusion or trade for the newer one. been researching myself. the older fusions were more or less mazdas. pair that with the 5 speed manual tranny and seems the long term review of the 2007 rates higher in driver satisfaction and repairs. the 2014 fusions especially with ecoboost seem to have lower overall satisfaction ratings that the 2007 model. and like I said this is literally a trade from a family member. no money involved. so, what would you rather own? a 2007 fusion 2.3L I4 5 speed or a 2014 fusion ecoboost 4 cylinder with a automatic tranny? which one will last the longest with the least issues / problems? appreciate any insight what so ever.

If the lifetime of the knockoff battery is 60% of the Milwaukee one ...so why paying half the price of the Milwaukee one...add up all the design flaws... it's not a good idea!

Definitely not as durable, but they may do the job if you plan to just leave it in a certain tool...
