Belgium is far from the only country in Europe who's a monarchy. Here are the rest of them :) Sweden, Denmark, Norway, The Netherlands, Spain, Luxembourg, Monaco, United Kingdom, LIechtenstein, Andorra and of course The Vatican :)

Ahh... So many countries in Europe have a Monarch. The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Little old Liechtenstein, Spain, Monaco is a principality (it has a prince) and Luxembourg is called the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. So alot of them are located in the North West of Europe.

Our flag has always been represented wrong. In the constitution, the colours are mentioned as red, yellow and black, which means red should be closest to the pole. However, our flags have always been reversed somehow and are hanging with black closest to the pole.

Little story about our Flag. The brand new gouvernement in 1830 picked the design from the French flag that symbolised Revolution but couldn’t take the Blue-red-white because it would looks like Belgium is the underling of France. They rather picked the colors of the flag of a former revolution « Brabant’s revolution » that happened at the same time that French Revolution (we tried to kick out our Austrian rulers). Oh, and the plutonium used in Little Boy and Fat Man is from Congo.

Actually, the official Belgian constitution states that the Belgian flag is red yellow black... due to strategic point of similarities with the german flag they decided to change the order of the colours to black yellow red to fly under the radar during the world war... afterwards they decided to keep the flag black yellow red since the black colour contrasted better with the white flagpoles... the order of the colours however never got officially changed so technically speaking all Belgian flags around the world have been the wrong and “illegal”

Actually... Belgium has 6 governments: Flanders, Brussels, Walloon, German speaking part, French speaking part and the federal government. And our king is not the only one exept of the Britains. The Netherlands, Denmark, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Vatican City is actually also a monarchy, but with the pope in place of a king. But I think these are the only influential countries in the world who are monarchies.

I love the language mess in Belgium. I'm German, speak some French and I'm learning Dutch. It's fun to swap from one language to another: "Excusez-moi, est ce qu'il y a une boulangerie ici?" on one side of the street and : " Excuseer, waar vind ik hier een bakeri?" o the other or possibly:"Entschuldigen Sie, wo gibt es hier eine Bäckerei?".
