An early review of LEGO Ninjago Set 71742 Overlord Dragon, a part of the Ninjago Legacy subtheme and a part of the all new 2021 Ninjago 10 years line. This is a Ninjago Legacy set based on Season 2 of LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, The Legacy of the Green Ninja aka The Final Battle, originally released in 2013. Personally I like the mini figures and the head of the dragon. I wished the overlord dragon had clothed wings cuz that would’ve have better and more show accurate.

I think the big blade pieces for the wings was more of a nostalgia thing rather than a show accurate thing. Legacy is more for the collectors that were kids when they bought the originals.

im so glad they gave lloyd a yellow face like the show and while its not accurate this set looks really cool, bar the wings and lego needs to do more accurate figures, villain legacy sets, and brand new sets weve always wanted

Same some dragons look better with brick built heads (wu's battle dragon) and some don't (jays hunted dragon)

This dragon is just gorgeous and frightening, especially that Overlord figure. A wonderful set and I'm so glad we finally got it, and at least it pairs perfectly with the Legacy Golden Dragon(who is technically the true form of the First Spinjitzu Master and since the Overlord is supposed to represent his Shadow, then the look makes sense.) But yeah, you are so lucky t have gotten this so early and I can't wait to see what's next! 2021 sets are off to an amazing start!

I think they decided to make the face yellow to make it more accurate to the scene? I just find it cool that they’ve acknowledged that little detail. And with the overlord, it is very strange that the rebooted overlord came in this set, I would have preferred an accurate Final Battle overlord, but honestly I feel like this overlord is a fantastic remake of the Rebooted one. I much prefer the ghost leg piece, because that’s a lot more accurate than the skirt piece. Great review Mind!

I think the redesign of the overload from the golden dragon was a cross between the coruppted garmadon and the golden master but this one is just the golden master

I normally prefer brick built heads with printed eyes for dragons but I think a moulded head was the right choice for this one

Thanks for the early review! I’ll definitely get the set, though I think it’s a little bit of a bummer they didn’t make this a more expensive set so they could make the dragon much larger. Probably not big enough to fit the golden dragon in its mouth, but just a little bigger. The head mold is definitely great though, and it’s overall a pretty solid set. Can’t wait to pick this up!

Overlord minifigure is actually much more accurate to the Rebooted one than the last one which was just a remix of season 2 and season 3 Overlord, so I gotta say I love the look of that Overlord figure! It's so stunning to see him being more accurate imo. Overall the dragon build is also very good. It included regular golden Lloyd, what else can you expect. Definitely good stuff. I think the set is 2nd best from this wave, first being Tournament of the Elements set.

8:40 I prefer the old overlord torso print, because it was designed to look like the lego pieces used in his spider leg build. This one just has regular looking spikes

Man this set looks awesome!!! One thing I don’t get though is why the overlord dragon has golden details since he didn’t have the golden armor or the golden power at that time because he wasn’t the golden master there.

Really the only major problems people have with the overlord dragon is mostly because of scale limitations with making a big two legged dragon also know as a wyvern I’m pretty sure. The biggest two legged dragon we’ve gotten for ninjago was the green nrg dragon and while that was a pretty good dragon it did of course have its design flaws. The overlord dragon in the show is obviously very big and I don’t think a two legged dragon can really work being like a $50 or $60 set so it had to be scaled down.

Its probably because both dragons (and the two golden dragons) are actually wyverns. Wyverns are essentially very similar to dragons with the exception of having only two legs and it’s arms on the wings. Now I’m not sure if wyverns are classified as a type of dragon or if it’s a different species, but it’s cool nonetheless.
