I lived and worked in China back in 2012 to 2014 and I was surprised how religiously the people purchased gold every pay day. I asked around about how long this was a trend and many said they learnt to do so from their parents and grandparents. There are gold shops around every corner.

BRICS has been in existence a long time ago -- 24 years ago in 2009 to be exact -- and there was no BRICS currency and no talk of BRICS against the U.S. whatsoever. Two decades ago, all countries in the world were embracing the dollar as their most precious commodity that facilitated trade worldwide to improve their economies and talks of "dollar hegemony" were never heard of, let alone the petrodollar. Likewise, there was no such thing as moving away from the reliance on the dollar as the world's reserve currency. Why now? The U.S. only has itself to blame for all the predicaments it is in right now. It all started with the U.S. living beyond its means, on borrowed money and borrowed time, by excessive quantitative easing to artificially prop up its economy, its stock market and to pacify an increasingly dissatisfied population angry at the rising costs of living. Then came the Ukraine war by American design where the U.S. confiscated Russian public assets and forced its allies to provide money and weapons to a proxy war of its own making -- an illegal act that went contrary to acceptable norms. In its desire to increase the market share for American oil and gas, the U.S. went as far as vandalizing the Baltic pipelines that had been the source of cheap energy for European industries for over 7 decades. And with the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, many European manufacturers moved their plants across the Atlantic just to enjoy U.S. government subsidies -- something the Europeans consider unethical in free trade and fair competition. Finally, to add to anxiety to an already fearful European Union, the U.S. planned to put tactical nukes on Polish soil with the sole aim, many analysts surmise, as a tactics to one more time to stoke up nightmarish fear in the heart of all Europeans and to draw European wealth to the U.S. like it did at the start of the Ukraine war. Perhaps another 20 trillion dollars would extend a comfortable lifestyle to all Americans at least for the next 5 years before another they need to come up with another game plan. That is why everyone now wants an end to the dollar hegemony and the de-dollarization will be unstoppable.

Mostly I agree with the advice that the USA should stop trying to police the world, stop trying to bully or fool others, and above all get its own house in order. Michael Hudson draws a distinction between mixed economies that prioritize industrial capitalism (like China) and neoliberal countries that prioritize financial capitalism (short term goals, growing inequality, deindustialization). The world I think is moving economically towards the Chinese model of devolopment.

Andy there are actually 3 tier ones Gold, equity capital and disclosed reserves. This is for Bassal 3 for international settlements. While they made gold a tier 1 assest I have not found an instance they were actual used for settlement yet.
