Seeing that bee sting death was surprisingly horrifying. We know so much more about allergies now, I can't imagine watching that and having no idea what or why something is happening.
@jazzycat8917
@jazzycat8917 Жыл бұрын
Exactly, the terms "allergy" and "analphylaxis" weren't even coined until a hundred years after the time period this is set in. Cases that we now know were probably analphylactic reactions were usually chalked up to poisonings. They just didn't know, how utterly terrifying.
@MonumentToSin

It's so funny when people (baby boomers) try to argue that allergies aren't real and "it didn't exist a hundred years ago" like bruh that's because people straight up died and everyone would chalk it up to curses or plagues
@MariaPetrescu

@@MonumentToSin true! This phenomenon actually has a scientific name: the survivorship bias! Survivorship bias (or survivor bias) is a cognitive fallacy in which, when looking at a given group, you focus only on examples of successful individuals (the “survivors”) in the selection process rather than the group as a whole (including the “non-survivors”).

About Anthonys fear: He has another one besides the one of bees that the author explaines at the end of his book. Firstly, in Anthonys book (book 2) it's explained how his father had already been stung by a bee years earlier, that Anthony was also witness to, and how nothing happened, which is why it shocked Anthony so much that his father died from it the second time. Obviously we now know, that a lot of people aren't allergic to bees the first time around, but that if you've been stung before you're more likely to be allergic. Secondly, Anthony has a second fear, subconsciously, that is very common to have if you have lost a parent when you were a child or as a young adult, but it is even more common to have it if you are a man, than a woman. You don't believe that you will ever become older than what your parents' age was when they died. Obviously nobody knows when they'll die, but A LOT of people who lost a parent when younger, simply don't believe they'll ever surpass their parents' age. They can't imagine themselves grow older, likely because they've barely seen it in a close relation (either or both biologically and emotionally) to themselves, in a way they can mirror their own life. -> This is why Anthony demands that his future wife and mother of his children knows how to manage a house and children and how to handle everything on her own, because he doesn't believe he'll be around for much of it. If you follow the timelines of the books and the authors guidelines, his father dies at 38 and at this moment, in the show and books, he's in his late 20s himself, so he thinks he only has 10-ish years left to make sure his family and the future of his title is insured.

I agree, my dad had the same fear, his mother died of cancer when she was 57 years old. When my dad turned 58 he said to me I outlived me own mother. He was afraid that would not happen and that fear was justifed because his youngest brother died of cancer around his 40th. I felt so sorry for me dad and understood his fear. He just turned 60 and next sunday we will be having a party for him🥰

Yes I didn't think that they did as good a job conveying the Survivor guilt syndrome in this season. In the books is very clear that he wants to get married very quickly because he thinks he's going to die before a certain age which is the age that his father died.

I actually felt like this episode illustrated Anthony and Daphne's relationship, too. When their father died, the whole family, including Violet, just fell apart. Anthony wasn't given the luxury of doing that. Daphne was the fourth child, so she certainly wasn't required to step up like Anthony, but she did step up by comforting the younger children while Violet was in labor. She's the only one he didn't have to worry about, which explains why seems closer to her than the others, why he was SO protective of her when Simon started sniffing around, and how he knew when Simon and Daphne returned from their honeymoon that Simon must have been the one who messed up.

11:03 - 11:13 it wasn't about the bees, if you notice Edwina looks towards the trees and then down at her dress, she didn't want to get her dress&shoes dirty, that's why shortly after it is juxtaposed with Kate not having a second thought before getting into the mud

Just imagine that as a young adolescent, Anthony became the Lord. He was responsible for his mother, siblings, and every employee's well-being. If he made an error that bankrupted the family, it would have ruined the family and their retainers. He became responsible for the life or death of his mother and Hyacinth during the labor. It makes some of his other decisions make more sense due to how much weight was on his shoulders. It also made me frustrated with Benedict and Colin. They are not that different in age, but Anthony is the one who manages everything. Yes, pursue your dreams. You can also handle a little responsibility with that pursuit.

19:30 this episode really explains Anthony. His father died in front of him and he was helpless to stop it, his mother was heartbroken - and so distraught with grief she became an absent mother. To add to the stories of crazy revelations, there's one Reddit story that sticks with me on how messed up it is. This guy was raised by his single mother, only parent he ever knew. Was in the closet not wanting to disappoint his mom, often dated through apps. Had a thing for older men. Matched with one guy, they flirted alot then met and hit it off great. Dated for months (so got very serious), then on a dinner date he spots his mom at the same restaurant. It was an expensive one he never expected her to like it, but she was with friends. Anyways she spots them, is shocked and comes barreling over. His bf see's her, freaks out and ditches. Guy is confused and thinking mom is upset he's out with a guy, when questioned he decides to own up and admit it was his boyfriend, no more closet hiding. Mom looks sick and horrified, cause yup...that was his father. Now it being Reddit who knows if it actually happened, but that one sticks with me forever now. Like wtf.

The easiest way to think of distant cousins' correct titles is to think of the common ancestors. If you have the same parents, you are siblings. If you have the same grandparents, you are first cousins. If you have the same great-grandparents, you are second cousins and so on. Where it gets confusing is when you have common ancestry, but you are a different number of generations "removed" from that common ancestor. Say you have a grandparent that is your cousin's great-grandparent. That cousin is your first cousin once removed. And, of course, there are nieces and nephews. If your parent is this relation's grandparent, then it is a niece or nephew. If your parent is a great-grandparent of this relation, then it is your grandniece or grandnephew, and its kids would be your great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews and so on. People get it wrong all the time. They tend to refer to their extended family as whatever is easiest. If she's being honest and accurate, (which we know she rarely is) Lady Featherington referring to the new Lord Featherington as a "fourth cousin" would mean they have common great-great-great-grandparents (or third-great grandparents), but I rather doubt that Lady Featherington understands or makes the distinction, so it's far more likely that he's a second cousin twice removed or something. Of course, you only bother to learn these distinctions if you're from a big family. I have 5 siblings, 14 nieces and nephews, 7 biological aunts and uncles, and 23 first cousins, but I've lost count of how many first-cousins-once-removed I have (going either direction of my parents' first cousins, or my first cousins' kids) and I know have literally hundreds of second cousins, removed or not.

Yeah, I know some people might not like how different this season is from the book, but I love it. After the scene where Kate gets stung, everything goes off course from the book. In fact, in the book, after she gets stung, Anthony tried to suck out the venom and the two get caught by their mothers and Lady Danbury. Due to the compromising position, the two are forced to get married. Obviously that didn’t happen in the show, but I like how the story progresses from here and what happens next. I definitely prefer this season to last season. I feel like Kate and Anthony have more chemistry and there’s more intensity compared to Simon and Daphne.

I had a scary reaction to a bee sting 2 years ago, when I was in college.... I was outside during a class and was playing with some of my classmates afterward and was stung by a bee for the first time ever... I was in pain initially.. but nothing too scary (at first).... I went back to my dorm room, and then.... my face started to swell up insanely, and my arm where I was stung was 3 times as big as it was earlier.... I could still breathe and talk okay though... it wasn't affecting my breathing like I was in anaphylactic shock or something... I called my Mom ASAP because I was really scared about what was happening to me, and then promptly called my roommate who had a car to come and take me to the E.R.... I was stuck there for 5 hours, and they only gave me Benedryll, and a chair in the hallway to sit in , since all the rooms were full.... The doctor FINALLY came over to see me and told me I was "fine" and that the bee sting triggered some sort of cold/flu reaction (which... I may not be a doctor... but that doesn't sound right to me)... So.... I waited there for 2 more hours because I was scared of what was happening and didn't feel safe to leave at that point yet... So... that's when I heard the nurses gossiping about me, (I was sitting 3 feet away from the nurses station), and they kept saying that I was being "overdramatic about it and I was fine"...... We have yet to schedule an appointment with my allergy doctor though.... SO... we still have NO clue what happened to me!! They gave me a prescription and the swelling went down in around a week or so.... I was allergy tested when I was 17 or so, and I cna't remember if they tested me for bees or not... they did test me for animals, dust, and plants though, and I'm allergic to anything that is green or has a leaf, dust, cats, and dogs. (Not horses though, weirdly enough.... I spent a few months around them for many hours a day this past summer and didn't have an allergy attack for once).... Rick is right though, you can outgrow allergies too! I had an allergic reaction to bananas when I was 2ish, and broke out into hives. And, over Veteran's day, my Mom and I went down to visit my Aunt and Uncle and my Aunt had made banana bread.... I tried some of it, and didn't have a reaction to it at all!! I did try an actual banana yesterday, but..... I couldn't stand the texture! (As in, I immediately threw it right back up, the texture was that bad on my stomach).... Normally....I don't have an issue with different textures.... I'm not like my Mom... who can't eat cottage cheese without sesame seeds in it, and can't eat yogurt without granola... and she HATES jello, pudding, and Greek yogurt... I, on the other hand, love all that stuff and have it for breakfast whenever we have it in the house... I even had Greek Yogurt for breakfast this morning... Chobani makes a coffee-flavored Greek Yogurt that I've been loving lately... YUMMY!!!

Allergies and immunity is so weird because milk will kill me if i have enough but poison oak and ivy are just regular old plants to me, ive played in them not realizing and didn't get any hint of a rash or anything 😂

Allergies are immunities. Allergies are your immune system recognizing something as foreign and attacking it, its a sign of an overactive immune system

When I was 10 I found out I was deadly allergic to poison ivy, got told if I were to come into contact with it again I’d go into anaphylactic shock. Edmund Bridgerton, you would’ve loved EpiPens 🥲
