In the book Penelope stops writing the column before she and Colin get married and actually starts writing books. But I like that they are allowing Whistledown to continue for the show because that guarantees Polin will be in future seasons and they are my fave so that makes me happy. lol.

yeah, i also think it's since lady whistledown is such an important part of benedict's book, it would be hard to work around not having it. so i think pen might give it up eventually, they'll need her for that season. pen already being out will definitely make an interesting change.

In regards to lesbian relationships in media, historically, you have had to hit people over the head with it. So, I can kinda see if that's what they did just out of habit. But I'm kind of hoping we see a complex relationship with Fran and everyone around her loving her and her being very open and we see an emotional journey.

@32:24 Notice how they are kissing in front of the same window that Penelope use to always sit. FYI… It would have been *AWESOME* to see a flashback of how Colin & Penelope met, instead of just hearing about it from time to time. Also, they needed to show how & why Colin felt like he needed to change his whole personality & act like a rake. It would have been nice to see him evolve during his travels, how he learned to be a *“Ladies’ Man”,* & see who he met (i.e., Casanova, Don Juan, Count of Saint Germain, etc.). Lastly, they should have shown an example of Colin being, according to Violet, her most sensitive child & how his father’s sudden death affected him. There are parallels between Marina & Violet, they both were pregnant when the fathers of their unborn babies suddenly died. Could that have been the catalyst behind Colin feeling obligated to Marina because he watched how his pregnant mother suffered after his father’s sudden death?

@crystalpritchard5065 7 күн бұрын
As much as I’d have liked a flashback to young Colin and Penelope meeting, I read a comment that said it’s actually more romantic that we heard the story from Colin, because he remembers every detail. It shows how important Penelope was to him from their very first meeting, and now I prefer what we got to a flashback. But I agree, I wish we’d gotten flashbacks to Colin’s travels, maybe not him becoming a rake, but him being lonely, missing Penelope, maybe talking to someone about how he hasn’t heard from home, or from Penelope specifically. We don’t need flashbacks to show Colin being the most sensitive child, that was established in the first 2 seasons. Everyone talks about how kind he is, we can see how observant he is, he is shown to be the most romantic, courting Marina in season 1 despite how young he was, talking about how romantic a long engagement and a big wedding are, things that men in that time would not have thought about. There’s even a moment that Sammy Bates pointed out in her analysis of Colin where he notices during Pall Mall that Edwina is uncomfortable and subtly motions to Anthony to check up on her. He’s just really aware of his emotions and the emotions of others, even if he doesn’t know them very well.
@vickster5001
@vickster5001 7 күн бұрын
We do hear why Colin felt he had to put on a new personality. He didn't change it. It was never real. It was a mask that he felt was what he had to do to fit in in the ton. As he tells Cressida, after feeling lonely and without a place in the lives of those he loved (because no one, crucially Penelope, never replied to his letters), he felt he had to become a person with no needs of his own, so simply a shell/mask that fitted society. And it worked superficially with the ladies taking interest and Anthony actually taking him more seriously in ep.1 because he had admirers. Not sure you could ever show he was the most sensitive, as that's subjective, but in season 1 and 2 we've seen Colin being sensitive in the sense of being sensitive to how others are feeling, whether Benedict in season 2, helping Daphne stop the duel in season 1, buying gifts for family that match their tastes/interest. He's always been decent, which is again shown by him saying had Marina been honest he'd have supported her, because he's always wanted to have a purpose and feel needed/taken seriously. I like that both he and Penelope grew separately in understanding who they are, as well as growing together.

I think it was because they had love in many ways and talked about self-love, familial love and i think i care so much about Colin and Penelope because we have been with them since s1, wanting this. i love the LW reveal bcs it's clear the Queen wanted that public control but loves the game, and Colin's confession was so beautiful too.

I so love love love Season 3! So invested because of POLIN! They say that Julie Andrews will stay on, that she's the voice Penelope hears in her head when she writes especially as Lady Whistledown. So loved the overlapping of Nicola's and Dame Julie's voices in the epilogue VO. Notice in the Butterfly Ball, Lady Danbury was bowing half to Queen Charlotte and to Penelope. Everyone else was following the Queen as they bowed but LD was bowing AND LOOKING at Pen. Agatha Bridgerton you will exist! I love the development of the Featherington Ladies in S3. Love that Portia and Penelope now has more relationship. And I would love to watch Portia and Violet as Grandmothers to their shared grandbaby. For the Mondrich, they were other nobels coming to get to know them better and probably inviting them to another ball or event.

John and Francesca in the books aren't endgame. She ends up with Michael Stirling (Michaela Stirling in the show). Michaela fell first I believe. If you notice in John and Francesca wedding the vicar was emphasizing a lot about "UNTIL YOUR DYING BREATH/DAY" because SPOILERS, John dies in the books and Michael inherits the title of Earl of Kilmartin. And Michael and Fran are going through grief and love for JOHN until they do end up together. Fran's book is the most heartbreaking I believe. And yes, John and Fran = have a different type of love. As do all of the siblings have different types of relationships/tropes. That's probably why the books and the series have so many fans because you get to experience different kinds of love in each book.

I think the guy who came up to Mondriches during Penelope and Colin's wedding breakfast was simply some random member of the ton (I suspect it was the same one who told Will he should close the club as he is now among the ton) and the interaction was supposed to show that Mondriches are becoming popular among society. In the church, just before Penelope enters, people are also nodding their heads, trying to catch Mondriches' attention. Alice tells Will sth along the lines of "Oh, look, the family who is persistently staring at us will want us to attend their dinner, especially that we haven't attended the last time we had been invited.". So I think the interaction is nothing serious, just exposition to show Mondriches are earning THE place in the ton and everyone wants to get into their good graces, and that they will be having less and less time to catch their breath with so many people trying to approach them.
@reallollabunny

I guess with Whistledown going forward, readership will depend, in part, on Pen's ability to still acquire factual, interesting, relevant, entertaining information about the people in the ton, and I'm a little uncertain how she's going to do that. Previously, Pen relied solely on what she herself overheard. Now that everyone knows it's her... How many people are going to still air their genuine secrets in her proximity? 😅 I think she'll need to come up with a different method of acquiring information and I think the future success of her column will depend on her ability to do that. Perhaps she will utilize the servants' network with Varley's help and get some gossip that way. She might also be able to have some of the other Bridgertons acquiring information for her. I'm sure Eloise and Benedict would both love to help. And those two would definitely be in position to overhear a lot. Eloise has to circulate with all the other young ladies out on the "marriage mart" (who aren't always mature enough to know when to hold their tongues). Meanwhile Benedict plans on enjoying his freedom, so he'll likely be frequenting events similar to the party he attended in S1 and mingling with the multitudes. Regardless of how Penelope ends up getting her information, I really hope she does get it, because I think that her vow to "aim her quill more responsibility" could lead to some important improvements in the ton, so I hope we get to see that 🙏❤️

A lot of people on Twitter agreed after the episode released that we totally understand why Cressida doubled down again. Popular and privileged Colin mansplained loneliness to a woman (and all that means in this time period), who has been having a hard time making friends and suitors. What. an. idiot. It would have been much better if either Pen approached her herself or Eloise did, or the two of them together. Colin was the LAST person who should have done it. Even Lady Featherington would have done a better job. But does anyone remember back in season 1 when Cressida saw Daphne and Simon alone in the garden together and when Cressida started making threats, Daphne shut it down with something like, "You can either be friends with a duchess or her enemy. Your choice." (But then Daphne has always known the perfect thing to say in any situation. Edwina too.) Has Cressida ever collected on that? And it could be the same thing here with Lady Whistledown. Between these "alliances" with a duchess and the most powerful gossip columnist in the ton, Cressida had more options than she realized, but unfortunately let her nastier instincts win, which is why it doesn't bother me that much that she "lost" at the end of the season.

I don't think the person coming up to the Mondriches was anything important. They were simply showing that, after their ball, they're much more in demand in the ton. At the wedding ceremony, they were talking about someone being upset that they didn't attend her luncheon and that she'd be all the more anxious to get them to attend the next one. And at the wedding breakfast, they had just finished fending off one invitation, they turn and give each other a look, and then someone else is coming to talk to them. I think that's all it is. To show that Lady Danbury's advice (to draw notice with their ball) worked

Just watched your full reaction as always and had a fab time! I loved season 3 and it's by far my favourite season of the show so far. It felt a lot more emotionally layered romance wise and quite mature too, dealing with two people trying to understand who they are and their purpose, alongside falling in love with each other. I loved the LW element wasn't solved quickly and it took time for them to get back on the same page, but by the end they were both more well rounded people. I'm pleased you left Colin's speech in the reaction in full. It's just so beautiful. I request all men take notes from Colin as hearing him be proud of her, love her and want to celebrate who without feeling threatened by her success was gorgeous. I also loved all the different types of love, especially female relationships, this season - sisters; mothers/daughters; friends (young and old); pen/madame delecroix, as well as Fran and John and Violet finding happiness. It was also lovely Kate and Anthony were in it as much as they were. Loved the score, the lighting this year was particularly lovely and so much symbolism in subtle ways as well as obvious ones, whether through costumes, set design, scene structure, right up to the ending with them happy and together in front of the window Pen spent years sitting looking out from, with the Bridgertons over at the Featherington house this time. Bravo to Nicola for showing women who don't often get put in a romantic lead and taken seriously is just as desirable and sexy and complex as anyone else and bravo to both her and Luke for such a wonderful partnership. Roll on season 4! It starts filming in September apparently. I'd love it end of next year, rather than being 2 years as suggested by the showrunner, but we'll see,

The Mondrichs had been complaining about all of the social invites they were getting and not being able to keep up with them all. After their ball was such a hit because of the Queen complimenting them and the whole Cressida thing where she distributed her Whistledown preview, their popularity skyrocketed. You can see ppl coming up to them to talk and the Mondrichs saying how they didn’t go to so an sos event so now they’ll want them to go to the next one even more. I didn’t pay a lot of attention to that man who went up to them at the wedding breakfast because I thought it was just another one of these instances. But to be fair I was way more concentrated on Penelope and Colin that I didn’t pay the attention I should have been paying to the other characters.

It’s hard to talk about Francesca’s plot without giving away what changed and what might happen. The changes from the book are pretty sizable in some parts, but still along the same personalities. A thing we can note is in the books, Colin’s, Eloise’s, and Francesca’s stories all overlap, timing wise. So they’re having to make sizable adjustments to make a chronological order that makes sense on screen. It might explain why they technically jumped Benedict. This timeline might need to be bumped forward.

I really disliked the end for Francesca, I felt it completely discredited the very powerful (in my eyes) stance of not every love has to be or look the same. I felt really seen by her character but also by having a strong but steady/private love myself, without big drama. Having her fall for Michaela in this way really discredited it in my opinion, and fell back to the same old tv/movie love type. It would have been fine to have her make a mistake/misjudgement, but they could have left out the discussion with Violet if they wanted to do that.

John and Francesca are a wonderful couple and yes, it was a disappointment. The writers did them a disservice. The message was supposed to prove Violet wrong and show how love has multiple facets. A love built on peaceful companionship is just as valid as one built on passion (considering how realistically toxic and unhealthy the other stories can be, it's even a good thing). Francesca and John were my favorite along with Pen and Colin. They had great chemistry and such pure love. They complement and complete each other. I don't know how much you are aware of the books, so I don't wanna give spoilers. But the character of Michaela exists in Francesca's book and it has been gender-bent (it's Michael, cousin of John). But, an important part of Francesca's story is her love for John, who is essentially her soulmate. So they better not make it into a triangle and respect their marriage.

This was my favorite season. I did struggle a little with the framing and editing in the last 2 episodes. I just wanted to see them in their final dance, not the extras in front of them. But other than that it’s definitely the season that’s gripped me the most. AFAIK they moved this season up (it’s book 4) because the next few stories are not so London centered. So they’re moving a bit to the country. It’ll be interesting to see how they do it. Especially since they did the heir plot to be able to keep using the featherington sets for Polin.

I don't know if we were supposed to be like "well, that's what she deserves" but if anything, showing how much she struggled with her family only made me root for her freedom more. I feel like it was such a disservice to give her more complexity during the season just to end her up in such a bitter finale.

Also seperate comment but Francesca actually has two ships! Without spoiling, she has two great loves - one is Michaela, and the other is John. So don't worry Eric!!

I’m really worried about her season. I thought her relationship with John was all about calm comfort and different (but not lacking!) than Violet’s concept of love. But Francesca looking at Michaela like that cheapened her love for John (for me) because it made me feel like her love for John (= not the burning passion Violet wanted for her kids) apparently not enough/real 😕

@@otter011 I think, and this is just my take as a hopeful bisexual, that her look after kissing John was more about expecting somehow still to feel the sparks everyone else described - which just isn't what she has with John. I feel like it is comparable to the attraction some ace/demi people feel where like, you might to have FIREWORKS with one person or gender, but I think her love for John is incredibly palpable and she has been on record visibly adoring him in a way that I don't think you'd see with just a friend -- Penelope looks that way at Colin too, so? But I do think what she has with Michaela is different. I don't think it's better or worse, just different. People can experience attraction and love in different ways, and I think what is complicated for Fran is that she's having feelings for a WOMAN - something she doesn't know how to untangle. It's a common bisexual (and sapphic in general) struggle, trying to come to terms with differing attractions and come to an understanding of your identity. I'm excited for her season, and I'm just hopeful they DON'T write off her love for John, because it's obvious she really does adore him - I just think what she will end up feeling for Michaela will be different from that dynamic.

@@danis4187 my answer contains half-spoilers from the books (so beware 😉)… I think what you’re describing is completely understandable (I’m bisexual myself and I agree that love can be very different). What makes me worry is that Violet explained to Francesca how Violet felt and reacted when she met "her true love" Edmund and then Francesca reacted the same when she meets Michaela. That alone is what makes me worry that her season will not be about grief and finding new love but about coming to terms with being gay. Her love for John is meant to be different than what all the other Bridgertons experience, expect and WANT. And I thought it was done so perfectly. But her reaction to Michaela did not feel like an "oh, I also find women attractive but it’s different" to me. It felt like a "now I finally understand what my mother was talking about, this is total different and better" in true Shonda fashion. I hope you’re right and they’re not going to make John the unassuming, unloved husband. But I’m worried they’re going to turn it into a coming out season than "proves" her love for John was not "true love" but just affection

@@danis4187 my personal headcanon since seeing the season (haven't read the book but know a bit of context) was that Francesca is biromantic, homosexual. she is truly in love with John but it is just not a sexual kind of love, while with Michaela, she felt a spark of sexual attraction. I expect next season to show her privately struggle with these feelings but not reveal them to anyone out of guilt, perhaps. I also expect that we will see Michaela pining after her but not making any moves because that's her cousin's wife. I get that people felt the Michaela reveal cheapened John's involvement a bit but, in my head, those are two different relationships and there is enough place in Fancesca's life for both. what is more, we know that this wasn't her season ;)

@@otter011 I completely agree with you. Totally cheapens it! At least the novel had the good grace to separate the two loves & not make them overlap in Fran's eyes.

Two weddings; only one had the vows 'in sickness and in health, till death do us part". Cressida to Penelope~ double the Queen's amount; Penelope to (Colin, Eloise, Portia)~ 10,000; Cressida to Colin ~ now that I think about it, double the Queen's reward, 20,000.

The chess game and the ending with the Queen are one and the same. Penelope wrote to the Queen and the "mercy" you see her give Penelope is a game between the 2. Penelope wanted to save her new family and her old family from the Queens ire. So they contrived a plan that Pen "humbles" herself in front of the Queen whilst revealing her identity to the Ton. The Queens part is to show "mercy" and that she "beat" Lady Whistledown at her game. Both played their parts of the chess game very well and will continue to be advesaries and oddly friends. Thats why Lady Danbury had that convo with the Queen cause as we all know its not LW, Pen, The bridgertons, The Queen or the Ton that run the Ton.....its the Mighty Lady Danbury that always gets her way. ❤❤

I hate what they’re doing to Francesca’s and Benedict’s storylines. They’re completely changing the stories, the show runner Browell projecting her own experiences on a character is simply not needed. I hope Shonda takes a stand and makes sure to somehow repair the damage done…. Otherwise I’d hate to stop watching it.

@@lillym.4093 Of course it would. What would happen when Benedict falls for Sophie? Is he going to be monogamous? What about his male lover? What about Francesca’s story? She wanted to be a mother, she suffered a miscarriage and the whole reason she wanted to get married again was because she wanted children how is that supposed to happen with Michaela Stirling?

@lillym.4093 I personally don't believe they will do all eight. This is getting Grey's Anatomy, where the writing falls out. I don't care who they put with who has long as the writing good. The downside of being romance that they run out faster.
