Update to performance. Just spent three days doing about 200 miles offroad. Nearly half was in sand at various depths. These tires performed remarkably well. Front tire tracked mostly where I wanted it to and the rear paddles through deep sand, as long as I didn't let it dig. Best tire I have ridden in sand. Definitely a confidence booster in dreaded sand.

I just replaced my Mitas E07 with this tyre. WOW what a difference. Plenty of grip and immediately gave me more confidence to lean more. I took it through a mountain pass on tarr within an hour of fitting and it gripped straight away. Doesn't feel like it need to be scrubbed in at all.

The fast wear is the price that you have to pay to have grip. Can't have both grip and longevity. You have to choose whats more important to you. I always go for grip, my bacon is priceless.
@advmatt

Completely agree. I would rather have the grip when I need it most than try to get a tire last a long time. Thanks for watching.

A great handling tire will never last as long as you want. A crappy handling tire, will always last longer than you wish it would.

I had a similar duration trip - about 4000 klms and the rear was toast. That was on a CB500X with luggage. Great tyre, on road and off - but not great longevity.

Would you still use this tire for a KTM390? I'm ready to switch from the stock tires for my riding which is 70/30 but I live in Wydaho and want to do more off road.

Absolutely, still my favorite tire for all types of riding. The rear tire will only go about 2500 but worth every mile. I got 8k miles on the front tire.

I have an 805 on the rear of my 04 DL1000; on a typical forest road like you've shown, they will slip sideways pretty aggressively in a loose corner with just a little throttle. Is the ax41 better in that circumstance?
@advmatt
@advmatt 4 жыл бұрын
I found when new, they hooked up and I had to work to break them loose. As they wore down it got easier to break them loose but never uncontrollable for me. I ran an 805 and found they were easier to break loose on corners than AX41, but the 805 is a much harder rubber compound so the grip wasn't the same. For traction the AX41 is superior but you pay a life expectancy penalty.

@@advmatt Thanks for the reply! Yeah; that "mileage tax" stinks. :-( So it's been about 7 months since this video...what tires are you running today? Curious if you've stuck with the AX41's...

@@wilddoktor I am currently running the new Dunlop Trailmax Missions, because I knew I would be doing a lot of road miles to start the year. I wouldn't do any serious offroading with these tires but I have done fire roads and some gravel and sand with no issues. I have 3k on them with lots of mileage left. I plan on doing a review of them this summer. I just need to get some dirt miles on them.
@wilddoktor

@@advmatt Whew...those things are spendy! You'd have to get 9k miles out of them to get the same miles per dollar as the 805's. I hope you do though! I'm subscribing; I really want to see your review of the Trailmax. :-)

The front has a noticeable hum, visor down, noise canceling earbuds, hardly noticeable. It is about like a TKC80.

They will perform great. I used them through Death Valley and lots of the CABDR. The rear tire wont last any longer but I have about 5k miles on the front tire with a few thousand miles left on it. It's a great tire for the 390 Adv. Price is good too.

It performed like it should for a knobby tire, about 5k miles out of it, never washed out offroad, was loud on road, but had a lot of pavement grip. I preferred it over the TKC 80.

Hi Matt, what pressure did you air the tires, on and off road?
@advmatt
@advmatt 2 жыл бұрын
i use the same pressures on and offroad on these big heavy adventure bikes to preserve the wheels. On my R1200GS front=34/rear=40, on my KTM 390 Adventure, front=32/rear=36.

Why don't they make a tire like this with much taller lugs. Same pattern but taller lugs?

How are they on rainy road? wet pavement? and compared to the Michelin Anakee Wild?
@advmatt

I didn't ride in the rain with these tires but did ride some wet roads. I thought they were fine, but I ride conservatively on wet roads. I have never tried the Anakee Wilds so I can't compare them.

@advmatt

Did not wear as long but traction was better both on and off road. I have more confidence in AX41 overall. The AX41 is a softer compound. I prefer the transition of the side lugs on the AX41 too.

Thanks for sharing! HOw's it compare to TKC80? Have you try Mitas E07+?
@advmatt
@advmatt 4 жыл бұрын
I have tried the Mitas E07+ yet. It has been awhile since I ran the TKC80s and I ride much harder now then I did when I ran those tires. The TKC80s got a lot of squirm on the side lugs in turns as they wore down. I have not experienced that with the AX41. I prefer the traction of the AX41 but the life of the TKC80s.

Tkc80 has better mileage than AX41?
@advmatt
@advmatt 4 жыл бұрын
@@sukhoi3747 I am not sure if that is accurate. When I rode the TKC80s I had just purchased my R1200GS Rallye and I rode much more conservatively than I do now. It is hard to say. I expect I might get a few more miles out of the TKC80 but I am not sure I can give you a good answer because my riding has changed so much.

2500 miles is not a "minimal problem"! It's shit. $130 for 2500 miles is way too costly and time consuming. How much did you get paid for this?
@advmatt
@advmatt 2 жыл бұрын
Tires in the 170/60R17 size normally cost over $200 and might go another 1000 miles, maybe. For a full knobby tire it's not too bad.

Depends ..If you want a tyre that perform both offroad and tarmac, especially cold wet tarmac you need a really soft compound that wear quicker.
