Bridgestone Potenza RE003 Review
Thanks once again for tuning in.
Today I'm sharing my personal opinion on the RE003.
If you are after a reasonably priced enthusiast tyre for daily driving and or mountain runs/track days this may be the tire for you.

Just got them for my XR6, switched from Pirelli, too early to make a judgement call but am contemplating them for my XR4, good to see a review by someone with a clue and a similar car

Thanks for your input. I'm still adamant they are the best value "enthusiast" tire on the market in Australia. As a daily driver tire they combine decent grip, wet weather performance and wear.

Had this on my AWD Impreza 18” and amazing. Did a trip on the Great Ocean road in foggy wet and mix condition through back country road and it grip like crazy… managed to keep up with a Range Rover Sport though twisty country road.

When I filmed the mountain run video we were pushing along at a decent "legal pace" up through Lamington National Park and the grip levels were surprisingly good with excellent feel around hairpin bends etc. Thanks for the comment.

You helped me to make the decision to choose the 003s as an alternative to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (latter not available with WA RAC member discount). Thanks for uploading!

I've noticed they have that offer very regularly. I also found out the RE003 qualifies for some tyre protection warranty so if it's damaged and still fairly new they give you pro-rata off the price of a replacement which is nice.

Good review. I have been weighing up whether to go for the RE003's or the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3's. My current set are awful in the wet and the car behaves like Bambi on ice.

It's funny how varied manufacturing country can be on tyres. I've had Michelin PS4s on various vehicles, so different sizes. The SUV version was made in China and the regular ones were made in either Thailand and Spain (staggered BMW). Where have the Bridgestones been made in your experience?

Given I haven't actually seen any RE003 reviews in Europe or the UK they might not sell them there. These tyres are also sold under the Firestone brand as the Firehawk indi 500 but that's mostly for the American market. Although it's possible you might have better luck finding those.

@@desirabledrives44 Nice, I use to work for Toyota when they were new, very good value for the price not just for the high lift cam and 6 speed man but much nicer interior and leather seats over regular Corolla too. But yeah handling was much to be desired, no doubt the RE003 tyres would help with that for sure. My brother just brought a used BL mazda 3 Neo hatch in manual and was surprised how puncy it was for just a 2.0L 4cyl in that size car, the close ratio 6 speed manual really wakens it up. Currently just has 195/65/15 stock steelies with hubcaps but probably going upgrade to 16inch Mazda alloys as to run a 205/55/16 for better tyre options. It seems like the RE003's are a good option that from what you say actually last a decient time and not just for a sports tyre.

@@druscanam From memory we paid about $24k drive away for a new 2002 povo pack Corolla Ascent and the Sportivo the following year was very low $30's drive away for a substantially better equipped car. The stock Sportivo handling is so dodgy that it's actually worrying. If you've watched any of my more recent videos I'm primarily focused on handling mods now and I'm quickly discovering that these cars handle surprisingly well when you add coil-overs, better tyres, strut brace and a rear sway bar.

@@desirabledrives44 Ok will have to check out. Yeah suspected that given the last (seventh) gen celica shared the same platform (MC) and actually handled significantly better not to mention the many rally varients TRD competitively raced not just globally but in Australia too. I'm guessing an Lsd may perhaps be a good option if you want to do a few track days, although if just driving on twisty mountain roads with good tyres it's probably not needed with suspension and bracing mods since I'm guessing the car is less likely to pitch around, keeping a more even contact patch between left and right wheels
@desirabledrives44
@desirabledrives44 Жыл бұрын
There are so many things I'd need to do to the car before any track day occurred. Baffled sump, upgraded oil pump, slotted rotors with substantially better pads all around just to name a few.

Not really. I've gone to a Michelin PS4 tyre which is noticeably quieter but it lacks the mid corner grip of the RE003's. I've done a review of them if you wish to check it out.

Mine are close to the minimum tread depth so I need to be careful driving in heavy rain but they still hold well in the dry. Obviously your car is more powerful so the results will differ but I'm still very happy with them at the price point. They have the Potenza Sport now in 17 inch and above. They are the flagship performance road tire now before you get into a dedicated track tyre.

@@desirabledrives44 You can always go the RE71RS for summer. Also gives you an excuss to do do track day also. They don't make a 195/55r16 but they do come in a 205/50r16 which is only 1% difference in rolling diameter will fit perfectly on the sportivo 16x6 inch rim and last a little longer than a 195 also given your using more rubber to do the same work. Also I've heard the RE-71 RS is better for road use than the old RE-71R. Not as soft and quick warming for no prep sprint events but better endurance and stiffer sidewalls for better high-speed stability and sharp turn in. Also very good in rain too. Also like the RE003 it has a Asymmetric pattern so you can rotate left to right without dismounting from the rim also unlike the old RE71R. Also from what I've heard not noisy for a semi slick either and rides quite decently and a recent review I read they said they got 30k out of them which is pretty good for a semi slick. Also the new Yokahama AD09 seems to have all these advantages too for a road use semi slick too. Definitely keep an eye on those two tyres as I think they will soon become a very popular choice for street use track tyre.

@desirabledrives44
@desirabledrives44 2 жыл бұрын
I've just watched a review on these tyres. They are described as a "green" performance tyre that has very good wear and wet weather performance. I noticed the shoulders have small blocks compared to the RE003 so cornering may not be as consistent or direct as the Bridgestone. At the end of the day I've never purchased Pirelli tyres but I'd be looking at the price per tyre and what I expected to use it for most of the time. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Have a lovely day.
@druscanam
@druscanam Жыл бұрын
The Pirelli P7 is a touring tyre which focuses on combining all weather grip, comfort, low noise and fuel economy. So it's a rival more so for the Bridgestone Turenza T005 not the Potenza RE003. The Pirelli P Zero is more of a competitor for the Potenza RE003 and the P Zero 4 a competitor for the New Ponteza sport.
@desirabledrives44

@druscanam very true but the sheer value for money of the RE003's is unbeatable considering they have the buy 3 get one free offer most of the time.
@druscanam
@druscanam Жыл бұрын
@@desirabledrives44 I know, although I was just pointing out that the P7 is not a performance tyre like the RE003 so you can't compare. The RE003 is going to have much higher performance than the P7 but compromise in other areas. Also on that note Bridgestone often do also offer a 4 for 3 deal on their Turenza range too, they often just rotate the deals with their range every few months.

Potenza is Bridgestone's performance division/range/sub brand. Any performance tyre they make has the Potenza name attached that's how it works. Turanza is their touring/comfort range Ecopia is their economy range Dueler is their off road range Alenza is their on road SUV range. Hope this makes sense.
