Hi Kimberly! I am a childbirth educator in Denver and I have a son who is Deaf and a daughter who is HOH. I have been trying to think of the best way to reach the Deaf community and would love to hear about your experience. In your opinion, are captioned videos or videos signed in ASL more accessible for you? What do you wish you had easier access to?

My water broke at 8:30am and had my first contraction shortly after, we left for the hospital right away, I couldn’t walk or talk by the time I got to the hospital that was only 10 minutes away. They didn’t believe that my water had broke , they didn’t believe how much pain I was in and they didn’t want to check me because my contractions only started 20 minutes ago and it was my first baby. When they finally decided to check my cervix because I was screaming in pain I was 8cm dilated. My baby was born at 11:30 so I was only in labour for a total of 3 hours. It was really intense and scary.

That's probably a pretty good general rule for most, though I think all the individual details should factor into making that determination, rather than applying a hard and fast rule to the masses. In labor with my daughter, I was at 8cm (well into transition and not far from pushing) and my midwife literally said to me "You're WAAAY too happy to be at 8cm right now" and I was, I was cheerful and energized, chatting away about what food sounded good for afterwards. Contractions never did feel much more different than Braxton Hicks had for me; my uterus would get SUPER tight and rock hard, which made it difficult for my lungs to expand up against and I got really winded with contractions, but there really wasn't much in the way of an actual pain sensation. If I had been waiting at home until I couldn't smile through it, I'd have been having a baby in our living room!

hey bridget !! God bless u for guiding sooo well. i just had my first baby, a boy on 22nd feb. the only thing which kept me calm composed and have control over my nerves in entire labour was ur breathing excercise tips. i had pains for 2 days whch were 30 mins apart....but as per your formula....411, on the third day i started experiencing thoes from evening and went to hospital....there the doc induced active labor state through meds and my active labor lasted for 1 hour only and i delivered very easily. the destresser breaths very extremly helpful in coping up the waves of pain. hypnobreathing is the best technique every mom should master !!!! though i started perineal massage & excercises also but could not perform properly as both hands could not reach down there simultaneously.....due to which i got epistomy & have stiches too.....whch i am taking good care in th form of sitz bath & keeping them thoroughly cleaned & applying local oitment antibiotics. once again ......i am very thankful to you for excellent breathing advices. they were they best.

Did hypnobirth breaths at home from 3pm sunday To 10 am Monday. At 311 went to birth center. Had crazy pain during contractions, totally disconnected w outside works. When I arrived was found to be at 8cm dialated. From 10 to 1:55 pm pushed with very active, changed positions every 39 minutes. So it took me 4 hours to dialate 2 cm, and give birth at 1:55 pm. No one prepared me for the pain. I was in shock how painful it was. I think being in physical shock is what delayed the progression. Baby was 8 lb 10 oz. Regret not having a doula who knew hypnobirth but my doula was great in providing counter pressure

Subscribed! Your vdos are so motivating and informative. I'm due in 2 wks and I want my baby to come just on time, not earlier. Then should I stop walking too much? My husband told me to stop walking as he understood that it'll accelerate the baby's birth. Is that true? I thought walking a lot is another way to help dilate faster during the labor, but it doesn't expedite the labor.. Your answer will be really helpful for us. Thank you

@jandanman Жыл бұрын
@@chenoaurchison It went a little bit different than I would've liked, but I'm still happy with how it went. I was in labor for 24 hours completely unmedicated and needed the help of a peanut ball to fully dilate. I pushed for at least 12 hours. It was crazy because I could see my baby's head, but no matter how hard I pushed she would just go back in. Turns out the fluids the doctors put me on filled my bladder and kept her from getting past it. We didn't know until I was too tired to push anymore and the doctors were threatening to pull out the vacuum or do a c section and I caved and got an epidural. Turns out I didn't need the epidural, just a dang catheter. But my little girl made it healthy and happy and I healed really well with barely any tearing!

@BridgetTeyler
@BridgetTeyler 5 жыл бұрын
Hospitals generally want to administer antibiotics at least 4 hours before delivery. If it's your first pregnancy, you may be able to labor at home till you're in active labor, but if it's a subsequent birth, you might need to go in they have adequate time to administer it. I know moms who have had GBS and only had 2 hour labors before giving birth. Care providers work with what they've got, but I would CERTAINLY talk to your care provider about it!

I never went in with my last two until 8-9 cm because it just didn't hurt. But I could feel my belly tightening at the 4-1-1 mark

Thanks for the video.. just confused because at the beginning you mentioned during this stage women dilate from 3-6 then you said we dilate from 6-8 during this stage. Can you clarify which on iy is? TIA.

When you move from prodromal labor to active labor you move from a 3 to a 6. During active labor. You move from 6 to an 8. Does that make sense?

Im so confused i don't even know the difference from a contraction from my baby shifting. I went to the hospital and they said im 3cm dilated and 90% effaced. That was two days ago. How long will it take for my water to break now?
@jennadavis2425
@jennadavis2425 4 жыл бұрын
It's different for everyone, my water usually breaks during transition, except for with my fourth baby I sprung a leak high in amniotic sac, up towards my ribcage, I could feel it pop, about 2 hours into labor (4cm ish) but then I didn't get the full gush of water breaking until transition. With my first two kids it broke around 8cm, and with my third it broke as I was crowning. But I know people who their water broke and they didn't actually start labor for four hours.

I know this is an old video, so i hope you see this but I have a question, you mentioned not being too rushed to go into the hospital unless it’s not your first birth, so for me- this is my second, BUT, I waited 5 years to have another. So will my body “know” or “remember” what to do? Or with all the time that has passed, do you think it would be a longer process like my first? Idk if my question makes sense, but every time I hear somebody say that, it confuses me because I feel like the fact that I waited so long to have another, that it’s going to be as if I’m having my first kid all over again. Like my body hasn’t done it in so long, it doesn’t really remember exactly what to do. Or does the amount of time that passes between each birth, not necessarily matter?

Every pregnancy is different. Your body may go quickly or very slowly. I would be more focused on your current health conditions than how many babies. I have had 10 babies and even the 10th waited til the due date, so did the rest except for 1 baby! Some labors were fast, only for inductions or acupressure. The other labors were days on end or all day and night, even the last ones. Again, just your body and what it is ready to do and when. Trust your body is testing to see how well you are handling the start of labor and how baby will handle it as well.

My doula had two children 9 years apart. She gave birth to her second within 4 hours. She explains that usually after the first one, childbirth tends to get quicker than the last. I hope this helps someone reading this.

It's not always that the first baby takes the longest, I have had 4 babies, the first 3 were from 5 to 7 hours the 4th was 12 hours 🤔

It was similar with my mom. When she had my brother, she literally walked into the hospital, and the moment they admitted her, she felt the urge to push, and yelled for a doctor. Before she knew it, my brother just popped out. It wasn’t even an hour. But with me, there were a series of complications that resulted in me being born 18 hours later. That’s how I know I’m allergic to pitocin. 😬

@BridgetTeyler
@BridgetTeyler 5 жыл бұрын
the 4-1-1 rule basically means you are having contractions 4 minutes apart, lasting about 1 minute, over the course of 1 hour. It's a helpful in gauging how your contractions are progressing! Hope that answered your question!

@@BridgetTeyler 411 it such a good guide line. But I kinda giggle when I hear it:) because all my labours have been very different but once contractions start they are consistent, long and quick together. I’d say about 30-90seconds long and 30 to 90 seconds apart! Ocassionaly it might be 2-4 minutes in between. A very efficient uterus I guess. So I’m a bit jealous of those who get to relax, watch a movie, go for a walk...not for me! Once it started it was go time. So the tricky part of when to decide to go in to the hospital. I usually stay home for a bit, (and call my doctor)but my plans are I always want a hospital birth, so usually go soonish:) I enjoy hearing how everyone’s experiences are so unique! I’m enjoying your videos/information.

Nothing wrong with getting an epidural. Whole attitude like its something inadvisable or that women "break" and get one but the "strong" women get through without one. Ridiculous.

I hate the title "go to the hospital" Why are we so focused on going anywhere? Can we move away from hospital mindsets? We are coming into an age of homebirth being a priority again.
