STATE OF CONNECTICUT PARTNERS WITH DALIO PHILANTHROPIES TO STRENGTHEN PUBLIC EDUCATION AND PROMOTE GREATER
ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY
Dalio Philanthropies Pledges $100 million, Largest Gift in Connecticut History; Collaboration Aims to Raise $300 Million to Benefit Youth and Under-Resourced Communities Throughout the State
(HARTFORD, CT) -
Ray and Barbara Dalio of Dalio Philanthropies joined Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, Annie Lamont, leaders in the General Assembly, students and other stakeholders to launch a partnership to strengthen public education and promote greater economic opportunity in Connecticut. Through Connecticut’s leadership and Dalio Philanthropies’ support, the partnership seeks to raise $300 million over five years: $100 million from the State of Connecticut, matched by $100 million from Dalio Philanthropies and $100 million from other philanthropists and business leaders. The $100 million from Dalio Philanthropies is the largest known gift for philanthropic purposes in Connecticut history. The partnership will benefit residents of Connecticut’s under-resourced communities, with a specific focus on communities where there is both a high poverty rate and a high concentration of youth (14-24) who are showing signs of disengagement or disconnection from high school. Dalio Philanthropies and Connecticut formed the partnership in response to the state’s current challenges:
• More than one out of every five high school students in Connecticut are either disengaged or disconnected from school
• The annual fiscal impact of high school dropouts on the state budget is more than $900 million
• Connecticut ranks among the highest states in terms of income inequality
• Employers across the state are looking to hire skilled workers in historic and emerging industries
The partnership will:
• Work with local stakeholders to ensure that community voice and input shape programming design and help advance positive outcomes as quickly and sustainably as possible
• Serve disengaged and disconnected youth or entrepreneurs working in under-resourced communities
• Utilize practices with demonstrated positive impact in Connecticut or other states and communities
• Monitor, measure, and report progress against specific agreed upon impact objectives
• An independent organization will likely be formed to leverage community expertise and administer resources with representation from Dalio Philanthropies, and the legislative and executive branch

money isnt the problem with kids, especially black, not learning things in school. its a culture problem here where getting bad grades is whatever, and black kids are more interested in doing 'thug shit' than studying. asian students taught in dirt huts with a chalkboard can run circles around our students, but again we rely on the american method thats failed time and time again - throw more $ at a problem and it'll be fixed - except it doesnt. if anyone was serious about fixing the problem of undereducation, change the culture.

Ray and his wife seem very humble and it's wonderful to see them support a very important part of our society. I love listening to Ray speak lately, and I would like to see more from people of influence pay more attention to the underlining problems we face. We need integrity to be restored first and foremost in our Governments, and communities. Ray and his family's focus on education is most welcomed. Thank you.

"Global Warming" Gates? Does he live in a small 2 bedroom efficient house? Or does he live in a mansion? Does he fly a private jet or take a train.. or some other 'green' transportation? But remember, we need to get to "zero net carbon emissions".. but he won't go without a private jet or a mansion. If he wants other people to change how they live, he should lead by example. As Ray is in this case. Again I would rather see a sermon than hear one.

Well done Ray and Barbara 😊 Staying authentic and legitimately walking your talk also gives hope and credibility that the institutions are not too broken and corrupt. 💚💃🌈☀️💞 Your meritocratic algorithms.. 1. Will it be designed into a versatile app or computer program?🙂 2. Do you think it would ever be possible for political leaders to a🤣 adopt this radical honesty with transparency and algorithms . Amazing if we potentially evolve past the dirt flinging name calling antics of campaign standards in my lifetime 👀 🙏🙊🙈🙉👌🤞😊

Ray, do your school programs include teaching techniques like mindfulness or skills to help kids navigate there mental health? I feel academic success and mental health are closely linked. I know for me personally I was bright child, but I had mental health issues. Had they been addressed at an early age, I may have performed better and went on to college.

My daughter works with these disengaged and disconnected students in Hartford. They are a tough group. No matter what special programs come in or how interesting they are, the students will behave badly. Class size is 25 children (middle school) and she has a very hard time teaching because of the lack of curiosity in her students. I'm not sure what the state of CT is going to do with the $300 million but classroom support for teachers would be great start so teachers don't have to feel afraid. You can keep throwing money to teachers to teach but if they don't have the supports they leave.
