This is why Neil Young is one of the greatest of all time. Nobody puts as much passion and emotion into his performance as he does. When other musicians catch that "vibe" it becomes EPIC. This drummer is no different. I LOVE Neil Young!

yes! and just as hard in new zealand, at least you had live venues there and actual bands! my 2nd yr in high school i started babystting for a couple who had 1st record collection i ever met.. it was 1972 and they even had zeppelin, i couldn't get there fast enough after school on thursdays, .. our tv had one b/w programme per week 1969-71 where overseas pop artists were 'covered' by a couple of bands, a few singers, and some dancing girls ... i laugh so much thinking about back then, comparing it with whats available to kids today

I remember working as a stage manager for local promoter in my town back in the late 70s, during the Rust Never Sleeps Tour. It was in October during the World Series. After sound check, instead of rubbing elbows with the media, label big shots, A&R people and 'hangers on', Neil came into the crew room and asked if he could watch the game with us. Well, duh! Yeah. What an incredibly humble and down to earth human being- with so fucking much talent.i still have the play list he scribbled.

@dennisodell30409 ай бұрын
@denisestickel6288 - Just to stick a pin in it, let’s mention the band. It’s Booker T and the MG’s, a band that has been around since about 1962, and the originators of the unique Stax Sound. With the exception of Booker T. Jones, the band members have changed over the years, but all members have always been among the cream of the crop. In the video are Booker T. Jones on the Hammond Organ, Steve Cropper on guitar, the late Donald “Duck” Dunn on bass and Steve Potts on drums. It hardly gets better. I had the distinct pleasure to have a beer with Mr. Jones in a bar at San Francisco International Airport around 1965 (I was underage, he was just old enough). This was a couple of years after his hit “Green Onions”. He was great to talk to and real nice man to a dumb kid, even though I was only three years younger than him. The backup singers… Peggi Young, Neil’s late wife and Amber Young, Neil’s daughter.

hendrix`s version ran the whole range of his guitar style, from wah wah to soft lyrical to screeching high notes and dave mason played chick-a-chick acoustic guitar mitch mitchell on drums and jimi himself on adventurous busy bass...and jimi`s distinctive vocals...that 1968 recording of all along the watchtower by jimi hendrix was surely the greatest ever rock piece...would never be issued nowadays with its long bluesy instrumental passage and lack of shiny toothed plastic performers.. .neil young does it justice here and his chaotic style suits....and to think it`s a bob dylan song...heaven.

I've loved Neil for 50 years. An amazingly strong body of work. Consistently strong song writing. Consistently performing energy filled live shows. And consistently turning out the most inept guitars solos imaginable.

Old Neil has done it again! What a tight band he had, back in the day. Neil was the best musician of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and one of the great rockers of rock.

Listen to Steve Stills "Spanish Suite" as good a piece of work as any you'll ever hear.

Sully Tyler : Agree with you. Neil has a distinct sound but not the musician Stills is. Young would be the first to tell you that.

Stephen's a meticulous player and clearly a superior player. Neil's all blur, energy and sleight of hand when he's doing this stuff. Listen to first Manassas album. A musician's album and brilliant.

@Scott Lane - just ran across this video, so a little late to the party. No offense intended, but I had to laugh out loud about your comment of “What a tight band he had, back in the day.” He’s playing with Booker T and the MG’s - ah yeah - I’d say that’s a tight band. Four of the best musicians you’ll ever hear. But they are not his band. Neil and Crazy Horse, his band if you will, are super F’ing good. Best musician in CSNY - surprised you haven’t gotten more comments challenging that comment. But hey, Neil is always a treat.

Not seeing him live yet is my most foolish mistake. No one can play guitar like him - pure emotion, he knows that traditional technique is but one of many tools and so he is truly free to create with no inhibitions. Wherever the song's emotions go is where he takes the guitar, every time.
