Singer Crystal Starr returns for her third visit where we evaluate the results of her home care regimen and address dark spotting on her skin due to hormonal acne. Our treatment begins with a good cleansing, then we move on to an aggressive application of retinols and flavonoids, as well as a brightening mask. Plus, find out why retinols are the best for darker skin tones and why we recommend avoiding Accutane whenever possible.
Nerida Joy provides skincare tips and secrets collected from her 40 years experience working with A-list celebrities in order to educate and give you facts about how to care for your own skin.

Nerida I've just noticed that the k facial cleanser does have something called "sodium laureth sulfate" and I'm a little worried because I've read that this, along with the "sodium lauryl sulfate", are very dangerous for our body and it may also dry out the skin. My previous cleanser did have the laureth sulfate as the third ingredient of the list, and it was foaming, which is probably why I had dry patches around my mouth, so after using the k cleanser my skin felt so much better. But now, after a month or so using the k cleanser I feel like my skin is drying out a bit again and I don't know why.

It is all about quantities Pablo. The amount of certain ingredients makes a very big difference from product to product. You can have two different products with the same ingredients, but the amount of certain ingredients could be very different, making it a very different product. It shouldn’t dry you out. What else is going on with your skin, and what else are you using?

I was on Accutane as a teen, about 25 years ago, and I still have some pits from nodules on my cheeks. I also have rosacea on my cheeks. I'm using Jordan Samuel's retinol oil and I get some irritation on my rosacea areas from the retinol. What can I do to lessen the pitting in my areas with rosacea? I have a light skin tone. Thanks 💜.
@devon.pfeifer
@devon.pfeifer 5 жыл бұрын
You could try layering the Flavonoid Complex by Rejuvi underneath... but if you have pitted scarring... I feel you will need more than that to address it, because Accutane really has a big effect on the dermis. If you do have rosacea, it’s quite tricky to work on pitted scarring at the same time. Do you just have the diffused redness or do you get papules/pustules with the redness? ...if it were me, I would have a consultation with someone who can do an IPL photofacial on you, or a V-Beam laser to combat the associated redness that deals with rosacea. The V-Beam is designed as a vascular laser for this purpose, but I have heard IPL is great as well. Once you have that under control I might try and have you use AHA’s or vitamin A products, and see a therapist for lighter peel treatments to help with the pitted scarring... There is also a company called DMK which has a unique treatment for rosacea called the Alkaline Wash. I have heard that treatment being pretty successful for people who have rosacea and pitted scarring. It might be worth contacting a therapist who uses the DMK line.

I recently started getting a lot of breakouts and hyperpigmentation from stress induced/hormonal acne and was wondering your opinion on differin gel/adapalene gel that can be bought OTC. From my understanding it is a retinoid so would you think that it would help with my hormonal breakouts and aid in fading any hyperpigmentation? I use differin every other day, wear sunscreen and also have been attempting to stay out of the sun much (even though it's hard to in LA lol) so that those spots won't darken but I dont know if its helping much.
