Need Brighter Lights? Philips Hue has got you covered with the new release of their brighter 1100 lumen Smart bulbs for Homekit. I'll test these out and compare them to the Nanoleaf Smart Bulbs to see how the speed and brightness stack up.
Having the perfect level of lighting makes all the difference and you do not always want to have to add more bulbs and fixtures to your space. I have a couple of rooms that do not get as much natural light. It's easy to dim the lights in the evening but when you need to light a room up fully, it can be frustrating if you turn the light up to max or use the colour options and find the illumination of the room less than stellar...

Can’t wait for these to be available in Canada! I replaced my garage lights a few months ago with the 1100 lumen white bulb, replacing the original white bulb, so much brighter! I will be putting some of the new colour bulbs downstairs and repurposing some of my older ambiance bulbs!

I bought 4 of them for use in my driveway lamps that are fully enclosed. I also added one to my pool outdoor lanai lamp that’s fully enclosed. They are brighter. However, I am really waiting for the 1600 lumen color bulbs to be released. Like you, I moved the 800 lumen bulbs to other locations in my home which in had planned to get some for anyway. I bought 5 of the Nanoleaf bulbs and gave 3 of them to my son in law. He likes them. He also has the Hue bulbs. While I do like them, in general, they aren’t Hue bulbs. I have two left to install and will do so in areas where they will add some ambiance. If nothing else, they will help in building out the Thread network. Thanks for your videos. I enjoy them!

Love the video, Brad. I have a couple 800s in my set-up now but really want it brighter (each room’s fixture houses two bulbs). Gonna try the 1100 for my next pair but very curious about the 1600. What are your thoughts on that so far? From what I understand it’s only the white that gets the extra brightness?

Great question, I've heard the same feedback, though have yet to test out the 1600. The other consideration is whether your fixture will fit 2 of the larger bulbs. I'm hoping to test this out for myself soon.

Thank you for your video. I'm considering getting this lightbulb for my bedroom as I need a brighter bulb but I also need the light to dim quite low. How low in brightness does the 1100 lm go compared to the 800 lm? I tried IKEA 1000 lm lightbulbs and it was too bright for me even when it was dimmed to the maximum

Hue does an excellent job at low light levels - the 11lm included!! If you need something brighter (and have a large enough fixture) the 1600lm may be a good option as well. It’s hard to find in stock at the moment, but I would expect similar performance at low light levels as well.

Have you tried Innr outdoor lighting at all? I was looking to possibly using them for outdoor light with my Hue Hub to save some money. Wanted to get your thoughts on that.

Hi Erin, I have not tried Inner. I don't have much in the way of smart outdoor lighting, though I did successfully use a Nanoleaf Essentials bulb outside and it withstood the cold Canadian winter! I may have to give Inner a try!

They wouldn’t be exposed to HomeKit via the Hue Bridge, unless you used Homebridge Hue, which if you care about HomeKit is imo a deal breaker.

I’m just wondering if the Hue lights work through Zigbee, do I still have to buy the dedicated Hue bridge if I have Eero as my main router and it’s a Zigbee bridge by itself?

Hello - yes, you would still need to buy the Hue bridge in order for these lights to work inHomeKit.

We had to return our 800 lights because they still were to big for the lights in our fans. So would love a smaller version but what do they do they go bigger. Lol

Interesting. The 800 is a pretty standard size, though I can see maybe the shape makes them hard to fit in some places. The 1600 lm on the other hand are larger.....

@@TheBradLloyd it’s because our fans put the lightbulbs sideways. So only the basic Philp’s hues fit. I ended up doing the non fan lights instead. But yeah u would heed a big enclosure for the 1600. Thanks for responding to a old video mate

I cannot get Phillips bridge to connect to HomeKit; keep getting weird message saying, “unable to add accessory. The set up code in incorrect”..called Phillips and they couldn’t figure it out. 4 light starter kit…any ideas…(yes, I scanned code on back of Hue Hub, about 30 times)Apple phone updated

Well, the obvious answer is the wrong setup code was printed on the device. This happened to me recently (not with hue, but another HomeKit device). Did Phillips ask for the ID # to make sure the HomeKit code is correct? Other than that, not sure what it could be. I haven’t heard of issue with people connecting the Hue bridge to HomeKit. If it’s still not working, you should exchange it. Good luck!

I use the Hue app (not Bluetooth) but actually, once added to the Hue app I just use the Home app.

Hi can you explane why over seas your hue buls all have that white cap on top of the bulbs when we in the UK dont and there same noidea what its for hmmm can see in all youtube videos seen that top bit whiter hmmm please let me know thanks. No one knows.

colours are too dull.. what i hate is the false lumen rating for a colour changing bulb.. i didnt expect this from big brands like philips

Dear Brad, the lamp is called "1100", not "1100 Lumen". The reason is written in tiny letters on the package: "806 Lumen @ 2700K" & "1055 Lumen @ 4000K". Long story short: The Hue bulb doesn't even theoretically reach 1100 Lumen. Based on my own experience, the new "1100" is not visibly brighter than the older 806 version. It's wasted money to replace the old version by the new bulbs.
