My college roommate came from a very weathly family. Two years later I finally learned who she was. When I asked her why she didnt tell me she said she wanted to know that I liked her for herself. She said nobody cared about her not even her mother.

My grandparents worked extremely hard for their wealth and we're lucky enough to be the final generation that got pensions and the ability to build a hefty bank account over their life, they told me at a young age to avoid anyone who looks wealthy, because that aren't. Maybe in some city centers there isn't anything for sale, so that is why some ritch people rent. But why would you pay more when you buy. It depends on the apartment/house anf location and you are paying it off. Rent is gone forever. If you can you should buy.

Having been raised "below the poverty level" where people on welfare appeared 'rich' to me, I am so glad I am NOT rich. My 'riches' come in other ways. I repair everything I can because I enjoy doing that, not because I have to. I still drive my old 2006 Mercedes that I've owned for over 12 years, and have no real desire to buy a replacement, even though I bought my wife a new Cadillac XT5 last year. Rich people never really find what they're searching for to make them satisfied, whereas I am happier than a pig in mud with my modest life. I plant tomatoes and cucumbers in my back yard each year just because I want to. I feed the birds all year long and try to learn more each day, even though I worked in a high-tech industry for 40+ years and now retired. Anyone that can be satisfied with what they have is 'richer' than others IMO. I guess being 'rich' is just in the eye of the beholder.
@JessicaMiller-pc4dj
@JessicaMiller-pc4dj 3 жыл бұрын
You may think yourself poor but you try being so poor that you cannot even afford driving lessons let alone a car AND you know how to repair the thing - not everyone is that resourceful. The fact that you have retired indicates that you may have been living in a generation where lots of people had very little but jobs for life were so much easier to come by . Don't even get me started on property ownership. You are grateful for what you have and that's wonderful but let's not forget that most people in this world are one paycheck away from homelessness and genuinely rich people will never have to concern themselves with that.

Rich people do not leave money on the table (they drive hard bargains and usually always get the upper hand). Even when buying something (negative outflow) there is thought to buying the best to avoid rebuying it over and over and paying more in the long run. Rich people do NOT attract attention to themselves...that means no gaudy clothes, expensive jewelry (in public), fast cars (they get comfortable cars of high quality), and live next to each other in secure communities and remote areas (out of view of the public). Rich people will also often have others buy things for them in proxy so the sellers do not always know who is the actual buyer...finally, the Rich get in on deals the poor or middle-class have no chance of seeing...they have risk capital that often pays back far better than ordinary investments.

Rich people don’t waste money on tacky designer clothes and purses. Rich people see cars as a way to get from point A to point B, they are not a status symbol. Rich people do spend money on dental care, medical care, education and travel. I know a lot of rich ladies who do their own nails. Rich people don’t waste their time fixing their cars in their driveways, they leave that to professionals. Just like they they don’t attempt to do their own dental work, they don’t don’t do their own car repairs or plumbing. Rich people invest their money, they don’t spend it on disposable consumer junk. If they do want a some trendy designer item, they will search for a way to get it second hand and at half price. Rich people have real hobbies, like golf, stamp collecting, coin collecting, they don’t shop as a hobby.

I think he’s talking about wealth. (Like old money... your family has money and therefore you have started off with it as well.) He’s not speaking of all rich . Rich people spend & show off their money, in my experience. They have a really nice car but then you go to their house, and they’re living in the rundown apartment. Where are their priorities?
