Well, if you were in Chicago, you may have ended up riddled with bullets. Or if you were black and in the south, you'd be beat up regularly by the police.

Exactly! Same here... we have fallen so far in every western country... the rot started in the 1960s but has accelerated to almost the point of no return... it is a tragedy. I don't know how we can regain what we have lost...

@@daveweiss5647 The rot started in stride with the advent of the television and its TV "programming" then ultra TV we call the internet was pedal to the metal. By the late 1960's many of the television and cinema moral codes were laxed(research Hay's Code wikipedia for one example), our grandparents were knowing of the power of film on the populace and thus tethered the media producers a bit. The Amish have changed very little in the past 100 years and their society and culture are healthy to the core(WHY?). I know this may seem radical but its hard to put advancements back in the box, its a Pandora's Box story in a way. But without universal electricity much of these advancements that influence the masses will not function and thus permanent power grid failure, for what ever reason, could be a blessing. The very early 20th and late 19th centuries were very moral times as well as prosperous in which many lived in nice attractive crafted homes, read books, played pianos at home. dressed decently nice with good fabric and enjoyed many mechanical inventions that required no electricity, this is the era to strive for to cure the societal disease we are experiencing today.

2:21 That is Clara Bow, Hollywood actress. She was a big star in the silent days (1920s).

Colorized photos really make the people look modern and in touch with modern ideas. I've always wondered about the reactions of people back in time, to such things as jet aircraft, helicopters, tanks, etc. Go back to the Civil War and show a common soldier a jeep, machine gun, A10 warthog. How long to get over the culture shock. Medieval women shown an operating washing machine, refrigerator, gas/electric stove. How long from fear, to confusion, to interest to acceptance?

The "well armed Capone mob" at 5:10 looks more like cops to me especially because the street map on the wall behind them looks like something cops would have at the precinct.

Yea Prohibition, you can get 6 months in prison for using that word here in Ireland. Using it in a comment is taking a risk.

0:49 "Have you ever RUN from the police...?" The verb is present-tense RUN, past-tense RAN, but past participle in compound tenses like this: HAVE RUN, HAD RUN, HAVING RUN. It fools a lot of youngsters because past-participle looks like the present-tense more than the past-tense.

This video has been every entertaining, but I don't think that some of the pictures shown were from the 1920's and/or 1930's. They look too modern. In any event, it was a very wild time during the Prohibition era. It should never have happened. Prohibition gave rise and power to organized crime. Thank you for these lovely photos of the early part of the 20th century.
